GamesRadar: Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica Review

GamesRadar writes: "As the epitome of niche, Ar Tonelico 2: Melody of Metafalica will never enjoy mass-market appeal, and it's kind of a shame. As far as JRPGs go, AT2 does absolutely everything right, with an innovative battle system that never seems to get old, well-developed characters, a complex yet easily-followable story, and even a well-streamlined map system that eliminates the tedium of traveling. Unless you totally hate RPGs, you will enjoy this game."

You'll love

* Well-designed, fun battle system
* Tons of well-written humor
* Includes awesome soundtrack

You'll hate

* Getting rejected in the Cosmosphere
* Having to make tough decisions
* Not on PS3

wow, i've never even heard of this game.

i'll read up on it and see if i'll pick it up

I agree. This game looks awesome, and I'll be picking it up for sure. PS2 = still the best system for JRPG/SRPG fans. Who needs a PS3 or a 360, huh? Quite obviously somewhere in the vicinity of 80 million+ PS2 owners who haven't upgraded yet.

Oh, and why is it a negative that it's "not on PS3"? What a stupid thing to say.

PS2 keeps chugging along.A true RPG king

I picked this up today along with the original Ar Tonelico and I must say, the game is great so far. Getting to know the girls is easily the best part of this game. I do however think that it will only appeal to hardcore anime fans like myself.

That translates into "random RPG that we all know is good...but we don't care enough to pick it up because turn-based games bore everyone"

Ar Tonelico Retrospective

I've long considered myself a JRPG fan, but for many years it was actually much more accurate to say that I was a Final Fantasy fan, devouring anything and everything Square-Enix put out with the Final Fantasy name on it. In the last couple of years or so, though, I've been exploring many of the less well-known delights of the genre, and making some wonderful, memorable discoveries in the process.
