PS5 Best-Seller in the US in October, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Top Selling Game

The PlayStation 5 was once again the best-selling console in the US in October 2024 in terms of units sold and dollar sales, according to figures from Circana (formerly The NPD Group). Circana includes the dates for the four-week period of October 6 to November 2.

The Xbox Series X|S came in second place in terms of units sold and dollar sales. Nintendo Switch came in third place in terms of units sold and dollar sales.

PS gamers in the US needs to support games like Astrobot more. Come on, one of the best and polished platformer released in many years, but it's not even un the top 10 most selling PS game this year. Bummer

Very true. Unfortunately, it feels like those games have a very limited appeal to the modern PlayStation gamer. PS1 and PS2? Absolutely. I feel that Nintendo has a stranglehold on that market these days, which is actually really interesting when we think about it: is it possible for an entire demographic install base to "age out" of certain games and the whole market for them effectively dies on that platform? I think so, but it doesn't really apply to Nintendo because they have a very high incumbency effec. Mario, Zelda, Pokemon, etc just seem to be eternal.

In other words, I think Astro Bot isn't crushing sales because most of the people who would really like those games aren't interested in them anymore or they're no longer on PlayStation. The incumbency effect is real. People buy Call of Duty and GTA religiously. Very few franchises achieve that level of public tenure, but as a new IP (relatively) on a platform that isn't really known for these games, it's an uphill battle.

Astro Bot being the #2 game in October isn't bad at all. lol. It's already outsold the lifetime sales of many of the games you're referring to.

Last time I looked a grand total of one person on my friend list has played Astrobot, and I think I have about 70 people registered.
I do plan to pick it up myself soon but in all honesty spending money on games is super low priority right now.

Exactly, call of duty have double the amount of titles compared to assassins creed and they still manage to sale idk how lol paying 70+ for a 6-7 hour game is not worth it, astro bot is another game i will never forget

MS making epic money out other platforms with COD is nothing but music to my ears. I personally don´t care about those games, but I´m glad that Xbox will use that money to develop and bring more first and third party games day one for me and other Gamepass players on Xbox and PC!

They are all using Playstation Network if they are playing online, which is Sony's ecosystem, and counts as a MAU for Sony.

Last time I checked, playing most online games on Playstation requires a paid subscription to Playstation network.

You need an Activision (MS) account in order to play COD. Once you´re playing on MS servers, you´re nothing but a statistic number for their metrics. You´re part of the Xbox ecosystem.

Depends on how many games you play. If it one or two major titles a year and your on ultimate, well your losing money. But if you’re playing those couple of big titles and then 3 or more smaller games. You’re going to exceed what you put in dollar wise. Then after that every game you play beyond that is free.

its absolutely free for me, i paid zero dollars for any ms sub. i simply uses Microsoft reward points to redeem a xbox pc pass that one has from years of simply having an email from Microsoft.. i seriously doubt im the only one ,with it being available in 1 month and 3 month redemption's. no cash, free.
