Control 2 Budget Set At €50M, Needs 3-4M Sales To Break Even; FBC Firebreak Targets €30M & 3M Sales

Man, I don’t think Remedy will do those numbers. Let’s say by some miracle it hits 3-4 mill, you can’t stay afloat by just breaking even. They really need to decrease their budget to where selling 1-2 is profitable.

Also, I’m fairly sure this is sales at full price. Not like them doing millions of sales when the game is $20 or given out for free on PS+ or Epic Games Store. I could be wrong though.

The math does not math here.
A $70 game will give $49 after Sony or steams 30% cut.
1 mil sales at full price will basically make them go even, yet they need 4mill sales? Is this a $30 game from day 1?

The math makes sense; the author of the article misinterpreted ROI. In this case, ROI = net profit / cost. Break-even corresponds to ROI = 0%. Moreover, total cost is typically equal to 200% of development cost when including marketing cost. So, Control 2 ROI of 100% would be €100M in net profit. They probably expect only to sell ~1M units at full price. The rest will come over several years at discount. They may expect, on average, to sell another 2M units at half-price. Conservative budgeting is smart of them; more developers should follow suit to ensure their success.

@QuantumMechanic You are quite right.

It was a bit strange that they announced that they want to hit 3-4 millions in sales with a budget of 50 million usd for success when Alan Wake 2 broke even with a 70 million budget and 1.8 million sales.

But they clearly referenced ROI which has a profitability and investment returns objective which is an efficiency metric (profit vs cost) as opposed to volume-driven metric (units/revenue)

theHunter Call of the Wild is the best hunting game ever made. I understand it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it can be really slow going. But the environments (they look phenomenal, especially for a 2017 game!), the satisfaction of finally landing a Gold or a Diamond keep you coming back for more. I have over 600 hours in it, my dad in his 70's has around 1,500 in it! The only game he plays, even bought a PS4 Pro for it back in 2019 lol We get on almost every week to catch up bc we live about 4,000 miles apart overseas. New Snowy Canadian map is coming out this next Tuesday. I highly recommend this one! 👍

**I'm really happy to see Eiyuden Chronicles on here. I was about to buy that one after replaying the Suikoden Remasters recently!

How’s the ballistics in the game? If it’s done well I may check it out.

they've gotten better with some updates throughout the years, but I wouldn't say they are perfect. But they're good enough that it's still a lot of fun. If you hang around their discord a while, you'll see quite a number of avid real life hunters who are pleased enough.

Yeesh. Pretty awful tbh and the PS premium support is shocking

repsahj1d 6h ago

They should combine the premium and extra subscriptions and use the extra pricing for it.

OtterX19h ago(Edited 19h ago)

Yea, that was my biggest complaint. If it weren't for my Portal, I would have cancelled my Premium. But it looks like they've leaned in on the streaming aspect as a selling point of Premium now, instead of the Classics. :\ I do like the streaming on Portal!
