Valve Nearly Went Bankrupt Before Launching Half-Life 2 and Steam; Company Saved by a Summer Intern

Valve nearly went bankrupt before launching Half-Life 2 and Steam due to a legal battle with Vivendi, but was saved by a summer intern.

So where is Andrew now, is he still with the company. Did he get a promotion or still a bottom rung employee. Was there a pay bump for Andrew, or any kind of compensation besides “good job, Andrew.”?

Rainbowcookie178d ago

He was promoted to janitor and let go when the company was downsizing so the big cheese can get his bonus...well hypothetically as it happens in majority of companies...

Abnor_Mal178d ago

I’m willing to bet that’s actually not too far from the actual truth.

You mean… Back 4 Blood?

I blame people like you for letting Evolve die.

Turtlerock Studios deserves a more appreciative fanbase….

Knightofelemia178d ago (Edited 178d ago )

B4B was not created by Valve it was created by Turtle Rock published by Warner Bros. Second B4B is generic compared to L4D at least the specials had a humor tone and look to them and not generic like they are in B4B. I played B4B and went back to L4D for my zombie fix. You play and worship what ever game studio you want I'll stick the L4D.

MIDGETonSTILTS17178d ago

….what studio do you think made Left 4 Dead?

JEECE178d ago

Lol Back 4 Blood infuses the L4D formula with basically every negative modern game design trend of the last fifteen years. Multiple currency systems, unnecessary grinding/unlocks/cosmetics, unnecessary hub world.

Not to mention the game is just worse. In L4D2 enemies would feel like they actually existed within the world and were coming from somewhere. In B4B they literally just materialize. L4D2 had way more variation in levels too, and the Special Infected don't all feel exactly the same like they do in B4B. B4B is probably the most disappointing spiritual successor I've ever played.

Former Naughty Dog dev says Resident Evil 4 inspired Unchartted and even Gears of War, particularly the over-the-shoulder camera view.

CrimsonWing696h ago

It revolutionized third-person shooters, in a genius way that gives you full control of aiming.

InUrFoxHole6h ago

Both are great series. That's awesome

Samonuske4h ago

I thought this was common knowledge. Resident Evil Revolutionised over the shoulder aiming in 3rd person shooters/action games

Yes,
and I absolutely loved the logo of Sierra for some reason.
Maybe, mainly because of F.E.A.R. 😈

Levii_921d 14h ago

EXACTLY what i was thinking!! My thoughts immediately went to FEAR as soon as i read Sierra.

Eidolon1d 2h ago (Edited 1d 2h ago )

Did they develop it? I thought it was Monolith.

Notellin17h ago

In video games there are two logos that appear before the title screen. One is the publisher and one is the developer.

In your question, Monolith is the developer so the logo they are speaking about is the one for Sierra, the publisher.

Hope this helps.

gurp1d 12h ago

yes, everyone or at least most people should try to play some of them
I never played any 80s games, but played most of the 90's and early 2000's Sierra games

jznrpg5h ago

Played a lot of Sierra games as a kid and teenager. Fun times
