Anyone thinks we will eventually get ep. 3 or HL3?

DefenderOfDoom2182d ago (Edited 182d ago )

I wish they would remaster the Orange Box for current consoles. Load times for Half Life 2 and Episode 1 and 2 was 60 to 90 seconds on PS3.
But thanks for the documentary about Half Life 2.

bababooiy182d ago

Its all but been confirmed internally Valve been brainstorming ideas for HL3 even in recent years. But wether they will ever go into full production is anyones guess.
Personally i think Gabe isnt all that interested in making AAA games. And as of now Valve doesnt exactly have the manpower to craft a game of that scale to match modern standarts.

How many people does it take (at an indie or AA level) to craft a game that's in the same mould as Half Life using today's technology?

I know that there have been some really impressive games that have been made by teams of 1-4 people, but what do you think would be a good number for a small development studio to aspire to when it comes to crafting their own Half Life game?

Shiore2u182d ago

With Half-Life: Alyx being a thing and how it ended a few years ago, and now this much effort put into celebrating the anniversary of Half-Life 2 there's more certainty than ever we'll be getting a Half-Life 3.

ZycoFox182d ago

Yeah most likely, even if it's not called HL3 that's surely what it will be.

Profchaos182d ago

I'm not hopeful the last game came out two decades ago now it's a tough call as iconic as the games are your really limited in appeal to wider demographics how many people are still actually interested and how much is meme culture and given how expensive games are these days they often try to appeal to everyone.

Soy182d ago

I'd guess eventually yes, along with a remaster/collection of the original games, like an Orange Box 2. If Chinese Democracy and Duke Nukem Forever can be released, so can HL3.

@LordoftheCritics
They start talking about what Episode 3 could've been at around 1:53:02

Half Life 2 is currently free on steam for those who are unaware.

Iceball2000182d ago

And Ep. 1 and 2 are included in it as well

Agent75182d ago

I never understood why anyone rated this.

ZycoFox182d ago

You were either too young to play it when it came out or too young now.

HL2 alone was worth building a good PC for back in 2004, then you had HL2 Deathmatch and Garry's Mod soon after which gave a ton of multiplayer fun on top of it.

Nothing came close for years in comparison with HL2 in terms of environment interaction and physics either.

I'm 49. 41 years gaming experience.

lellkay181d ago

Did you play this game around launch or are you saying this looking back as someone who wasn't there? it was a truly revolutionary game at the time.

Agent75178d ago

Somehow, I found both games to be boring. Same with turn based RPGs. And anything point 'n' click.

Noskypeno180d ago (Edited 180d ago )

Valves reason for not releasing hl3 or ep 3 is like asking your dad to make a hamburger because you're hungry and him saying " I can't make it until I have the finest spices and the finest cheeses and master the technique of making a perfect hamburger that pleases Gordon Ramsay, anything less is not worthy of being eaten" when all you wanted was just a decent edible cheeseburger and it didn't matter if it had basic Kraft cheese or being over cooked a little.

Simon's Quest is better than Symphony.

If you're gonna troll, at least make a legitimate attempt.

Levii_929d ago

Hot damn that's a good list. The only one i never played is AOE2 and i never finshed Chrono Trigger but it was damn good.

Speaking of what's old but holds up amazingly well and plays like a dream.. i played Symphony of the Night for the first time in 2019.. yep that's right. It became one of my favourite games of all time that i replay almost every year. I couldn't believe how good it was. That is almost impossible for me with newer games let alone older ones. Truly a special gem.

LG_Fox_Brazil8d ago

That's a pretty fucking great list

__y2jb8d ago (Edited 8d ago )

The only one I’d disagree with is doom. It shows its age badly I think. After 5 minutes of play these days you put it down.

One of my biggest art heroes. His work and vision were truly one of a kind, and he’s been a huge inspiration to my own work. Such a heartbreaking loss.

Deeeeznuuuts90d ago

Remember seeing Dishonored for the first time when it released, fell in love with the art style straight away, so striking! And because of it, still holds up and will for years to come, RIP Viktor

JEECE90d ago

Yep I remember seeing some of the earliest concept art for Dishonored and hearing that the art director of Half-Life 2 was working on it and being excited.

And you are absolutely right, each of those games (HL2 and Dishonored) has a distinct art style that stands the test of time.

Relientk7790d ago

So sad to hear this. I absolutely love the Dishonored series and love the world and art style. It looks great and unique. I'm still hoping for a Dishonored 3

Ethereal90d ago

Damn... Dishonored has such amazing art. RIP.
