Stellar Blade Visuals Are Massively Improved By PS5 Pro PSSR, Says DF Report

Stellar Blade is one of the latest titles to be scrutinised by Digital Foundry for its ongoing PS5 Pro coverage, with John Linneman confirming Shift Up’s action-adventure game benefits from a huge visual improvements thanks to the use of Sony’s PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

PSSR is really doing the damn thing. You will notice that not all implemtations are this good. Dragon's Dogma has some real issues with RTGI and Veilguard has some some issue with image stability (Capcom and Bioware/EA). So it always blows me away when the smaller companies do a better job than the huge coroporations.

So of the implemtations so far:
Best PSSR IQ overall: Stellar Blade
Most imporved through PSSR: FF7R
Best overall IQ (non PSSR): Horizon: FW

GOTY contender - glad to see them still making this game even better.

Limitedtimestruggle217d ago

Glad I held out playing until I got my Pro! This and FF7R will be great!

jznrpg217d ago

I beat the game but I still need to finish up the platinum so I will definitely do that on the Pro. One of the best games of 2024

I want to upgrade to Pro even more because of this video!

Stellar Blade PC Gameplay - Dated looks and Gameplay saved by fan-service

CG writes: The Stellar Blade PC demo dropped yesterday and here are two gameplay videos running at max settings in 4K using an RTX 4090. The gameplay feels polished but somewhat dated in our opinion (as are the UE4 visuals). The game seems like a cross between Bayonetta and a souls-like without the punishing deaths. However (and PS5 fans can attest), the fan-service is “refreshing” in a sea of Western developed titles shying away from sexualized lead characters. Bravo SHIFT-Up, take our money when the game releases June 11th.

Dated visuals? What in the hell?

IRetrouk10d ago

Yeah i don't understand this at all

Christopher10d ago

They do look dated, though...

It's 4k, but everything looks like it's from last generation hardware. The problem isn't that this is dated, it's that we don't call it out for being dated in other major games.

YourMommySpoils10d ago

In some ways I disagree about dated, as the modelling for objects, (not saying Eve herself), is done better than the highest end graphical games. I'm talking about examples like chairs and bottles and shops, etc. The aspect proportions in this game are way more accurate than any other game I've played.

Christopher9d ago

@YourMommySpoils: No, they absolutely aren't.

YourMommySpoils9d ago

@Christopher they absolutely are. Give me another game accurately size beer and wine bottles.

Obscure_Observer10d ago

"Dated visuals? What in the hell?"

It´s powered by eleven years old tech. The rest self explanatory.

Redgrave10d ago

I suppose you'd be the one true expert on things powered by old tech, huh

@Redgrave

"I suppose you'd be the one true expert on things powered by old tech, huh"

Yes

yeastori10d ago (Edited 10d ago )

old tech doesn't matter, some older games look better than games made today. Examples, COD Advance Warfare, InFamous Second Son.

Obscure_Observer10d ago

@yeastori

I`m gonna make it easier for you to understand.

By comparison, Clair Obscur, which is a *cheaper* ($50) AA UE5 powered game, will absolutely destroy some AAA UE4 powered games like Stellar Blade, Redfall or Lost Soul Aside ($60).

It is what it is.

StoneTitan9d ago

it is what it is, you are just wrong on almost everything you talk about hahaha

The open world areas are alright and fairly intricate in their design. There are not that many athmospherical effects nor deptjh of field or other prost processing effects, however the game is fun. Imagine Devil May Cry in space with a decent upgrade system for moves and weapons. Some fights are a bit frustrating and need to be won following a certain strategy. Characters are alright, feel a bit stiff at times. The game is definitivellty worth a look. Played on PS5 basic and quite enjoyed it.

gurp10d ago

how are they dated, I played it on PS5, and it looks great, some of the textures are blurry but only close up
the character models are very good

FromSoftware games have dated graphics, but why do they get such high scores, they all look last gen and many several gens old

What, did someone just have a stroke?

This website typically reviews P games or lewd gachas/mods. This particular review has to be a move made to garner traffic by speaking negatively about Stellar Blade while not being completely off brand from the usual fare.

Rainbowcookie10d ago

They always use the "dated" visual reference to add more boobage.

VivaLaManual10d ago

Date looks and gameplay? That combat is wonderful....

Smellsforfree10d ago

I love the visuals and I think they look absolutely great. Games don't need GPU breaking lighting models in order to be fun.
