At no point in time I saw Microsoft officially stating: "Don't buy the Xbox. We will be going multiplatform anyway. We really don't care."

How come anyone can possibly defend spending 500 dollars on Xbox One and on Xbox Series subsequently, only to be getting dumped by Microsoft two times in a row.

What's the purpose of having again spent up to 550 dollars (games, peripherals, subscriptions, etc. still excluded) for the Series X only about ~4yrs ago, and Microsoft essentially giving up on pushing the hardware already?

To some people up to 1000$ may not be much, alright.

But I really can't understand why, or even how, by logical arguments, Xbox fans that buy THE actual hardware can possibly be satisfied with another gen they've had no plans for.

Every major game on Xbox Series, with the exception of the usual Forzas & Halo, were former 3rd party IPs OR were simply being put exclusively after being taken over.

And this only proves they had NOTHING in plan on their own.

They didn't even seem to have s concept of a plan going into the Series generation.

With the possible exception that they knew they would go and try buying out Zenimax and ABK.

And why were they doing all of that? Because the Xbox brand poured in hundreds of billions of dollars in operating profit so they could afford any of that?

Of course not.

Because, although Microsoft as parent company didn't need the Xbox brand (because it never was profitable to even begin with), they needed to buy out Zenimax, ABK and throw GP at people to, in a last attempt, to prevent the Xbox brand from being a total financial disaster after 20 years of mis-executing this brand.

Luckily for them, Zenimax and ABK had gotten greenlit eventually. Can you imagine the state of Xbox right now if ABK and Zenimax had stayed third party legally?

I am upset because Microsoft are making fools out of everyone that's been supporting the Xbox brand. Can't you see that?

Did they publically tell anyone before Nov. 2020 that they really had nothing prepared for the Series generation?

For ramping up a paywall like GP, even if you buy the games digitally (it's just a license), they are applauding Microsoft for day-one releases, buying out complete publishers and franchises like CoD, TES, Doom, etc., they are proudly representing them as "Great Xbox 1st party games" now (give me a fucking break already) and they are shouting tears of joy because at the end of this year, Microsoft want to share further details about the 'Xbox Next' already. They forgot about the fact that they were teasing them Indiana Jones would stay exclusive. Only to screw them over again 6 months later over a dollar.

That's just bonkers. Or, if you bought it last year or this year first, you can be quite certain that nothing will be coming around anymore for Xbox Series before they will pull the plug completely. Every IP will be multiplatform, with the exception of Halo & Gears (perhaps).

Ya know, one point is next gen when the PS6 and the xbox y comes out, many of the BC PS5 games will have Pro versions while all the xbox games will be x versions.

This gen one of the best things for me when I got my PS5 was that I was able to play PS4 Pro versions of games.

No xbox Pro means next gen PlayStation 6 will have way better looking BC games. PS5 Pro is setting the stage for the PS6 to have a huge advantage over xbox. Which considering how long the PS4 generation is extending (and PS4 games still are getting PS4 Pro versions in 2024) means PS5 Pro is going to be great for PlayStation 6 owners.

And the pro upgrades we're seeing hasn't been that noticeable. Also wouldn't the Xbox y just upscale series games like series doing for Xbox one games? Games are already 4k 60 mostly. backwards compatibility from one gen ago yeah and if you wanna go further back you can buy your games again but I guess thats been drilled into you with all the remasters of 3 yr old games. Sony is advertising the Pro as being capable of playing Quality modes in games at a full 60 fps.

I'm actually just hoping for more stable framerates in a number of games. The Elden Ring DLC, for example, really increased the complexity of the world to the point that now PS5 is typically 45-55 fps in those areas on performance mode. I'd like to see a stable 60 fps in Elden Ring without having to rely on the PS4 version being played on a PS5.

It shouldn’t be a surprise. The internet is a place where the complainers are the loudest and once one starts they all join in chorus, but it normally doesn’t translate into the marketplace. People forget how many complainers there were when the PS5 was announced at 500 and not 400 (USD) but we see how that turned out. When cell phones jumped in price from hundreds to a thousand the internet cries rained down but were quickly silenced when people spoke with their dollars. Moral of the story, who cares what John/Jane Doe cries about from their parents basement online, wait for real outcomes and numbers come in from people who have better things to do than to go online and tell people not to buy something because they want because they say not too.
