Astro Bot Sales Have Done Better Than Any 3D Platformer In The Last Decade Not Called “Mario”

It’s been in the top-five in sales charts in the US, in the EU and in the UK.

And according to GamesIndustry.Biz’s Chris Dring, it’s done better than pretty much every other 3D platformer for the last decade. At least ones that don’t feature a plumber in blue overalls.

Happy to see it.

Pay attention Herman Hulst, guide Sony forward properly, less remakes / remasters, less online-only filler junk.

Focus on fun games, even if they are medium or low budget. Now let's get that Ape Escape 4!

just_looken247d ago

new ape escape would be great the mgs mini games were fun.

Also toss out some new twisted metal drive club or even let the chains go on mgs 4/ bloodborn.

SolidBoss816246d ago

I could go for a new Motorstorm game or a new Uncharted

Cacabunga246d ago (Edited 246d ago )

Bigger than Crash 4 and the trilogy remake? Impressive indeed..

Give us a new Sly please!!! Thieves in Time was a masterpiece

just_looken246d ago

@SolidBoss816

New motorstrom heck yeah i am in

jukins247d ago

You guys only focus on the negatives...andbact like there's only remakes remasters and online only. Sony has already had a release this gen from all but 3 studios and they all weren't remasters remakes or online only.

Ninver246d ago

Um you should probably send that to Sony not n4g comments section 😂

Chocoburger246d ago (Edited 246d ago )

Ha, the comment was for the N4G community, not directed towards Sony.

Of course Hulst is looking at those Astro Bot numbers and it should guide him forward. We hope so at least!

-Foxtrot247d ago

These guys need to develop a Ape Escape reboot or something, that one level of it in Astro Bot was super fun to go through.

Hoping this shows Sony and other developers to make more platformers.

badz149246d ago

I personally love all the special levels. Wish the were more of them

Jin_Sakai247d ago

This game deserves all the sales it can get. We need more fun games with rock solid performance like Astro Bot.

TheNamelessOne247d ago (Edited 247d ago )

Most 3D platformers are made by indie studios on small budgets. Not taking away from Astro, but definitely questioning the need of the article. You can count high profile 3D platformers that aren't Mario on one hand.

lelo2play247d ago

Yep. If we take away Mario, there aren't many big AAA platform games out there... unfortunately.

We have Crash Bandicoot (last one didn't have great sales)... and that's about it.

tay8701247d ago

Did you forget about sonic?

lelo2play246d ago (Edited 246d ago )

@tay8701

Sonic has been dead for ages. Do you actually believe Sonic (in gaming) is presently a big AAA platform franchise ?

pwnmaster3000246d ago

Pschonauts2 just came out not so long ago.

TheNamelessOne246d ago

@pwn

That's the point. You take all the competition out of the way, it's easy to make an article like this. "We didn't beat Mario but, look, we outbeat the competitors that didn't have nearly our budget".

jznrpg247d ago

You were in an alternate universe

CosmicTurtle246d ago

The last Astro Bot was pre installed and free. Maybe it was an article framed around this.

A saving of $110 is nice for a bundle. These should sell well

Rainbowcookie108d ago

The problem is that retailer have imported months ago so here we won't see the pricedrop. They will sit on the stock until ps6 and then discount it.

Eonjay108d ago

If you don't mind me asking... what country are you referring to?

DivineHand125107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

This is actually a good bundle. Sony should consider doing bundles of game of the year titles at some point.

I still play Astro Bot to this date dispite playing the game at launch. A new level came out yesterday and I plan on playing it either later today after work or tomorrow morning if I have the time. I wish other studios supported their games like this and what Team Asobi is doing is showing emmence gratitude to it's fans.

jznrpg107d ago

Maybe with games like No Mans Sky and Astro Bot having legs since there is continued support more devs see the financial benefit of free updates and it becomes more common.

Destiny1080107d ago

$110 saving, that's a sweet deal

Abear21107d ago

All consoles should include a game imo, at least $20 to the store
