Sony and Bungie have conducted a playtest for the studio's upcoming sci-fi extraction first-person shooter, Marathon.
It’s an unproven trend at this point, but the new race toward live multiplayer games appear to be the genre of extraction shooters, and this week brought an unusual situation with two upcoming 2025 extraction games both running Closed Alphas and so far, eliciting different reactions.
The reaction to the Marathon Alpha has mostly been mixed to underwhelming. The initial reaction to the ARC Raiders Alpha has visibly skewed more positive.
I see those Microsoft owned sites posting bad articles about marathon like they feel it’s going to beat CoD and all other FPS 🤣

Too little too late. 💀 Now they’re multiplat only. 💀 Buying studios was a desperate measure. 💀 Turned out great for PS5 owners though. 🥳

Really? Seems to me like both are snoozers and people just aren't interested in these games.

This is silly. I think both games are amazing. Both games can be very successful at the same time and I hope they are.
I hate articles like this. “My opinion is all that matters. Click my stuff”. Both games will have their audiences. Some ppl like rock. Some ppl like rap. Not everyone is the same.
From what I've heard off friends who have access to both tests, Arc Raiders is leaps and bounds ahead of Marathon. Still as OW2 and Rivals prove, competition is healthy, hopefully Arc Raiders pushes Marathon to be a better game.
I don’t think I’ve seen anyone say “marathon is amazing”. At least, not people who’ve had first hand experience playing it
So we can we can see into the future now? I’m sure ARC is fine, me personally? Far more interested in Marathon. Between known Bungie’s solid gameplay and world building to the aesthetics and concept, I’m all in on Marathon.
Yeah but unfortunately marathon are both in the hands of gamers and one has been recommend for delay.

I played the Technical Test 2 earlier today and had a blast. I got thrown in an instance, saw a guy walking up some stairs, started shooting at him and watched him run for his life. It was funny until I got killed by some random drones. They're both different games and will have their space. Only the gameplay loop will tell.
Why do gamers/gamejournalist do this? We need to stop with all this doom article game shit.
windowscentral wouldn't have wrote this "piece" if Bungie was still owned by Microsoft.

Arc is genuinely good (from the Finals devs {ex-Battlefield} ), 'if' you like extraction shooters and got to play it.

It has nothing to do with "console warring". It has everything to do with windowscentral credibility.
I can safely say that this latest Marathon reboot has the potential to be among the best of the genre.

Arc Raiders is already getting better reception in the preview sessions than Marathon, anyways.
Idk why. Just got off ARC. Marathon has more hook. Arc gunplay is trash. There’s more reloading than shooting lol. It already has 3 different currencies & monetization trash on a play test.
Marathon has its shortcomings but the gunplay is superior. I actually went back to marathon lol
They should re-master the Marathon games from the 90s for all current platforms.

I have a bad feeling for this game..
Ah Marathon, what once would've been one of many multiplayer modes attached to a full single player campaign, is now just a full game in itself.
Modern gaming ladies and gents, modern fucking gaming.
