Space Marine 2 Devs Could've Made Open World Where Gamers Hide in Tall Grass, Fans Wouldn't Like It

Saber says they could have made Space Marine 2 open world where players can hide in tall grass, but fans wouldn't have liked it.

Also Space Marines don't hide,

Indeed indeed, you can't slaughter hordes hiding in the grass.

Shots fired at the whole industry there ahaha. I really hate stealth in modern games.

I think it depends on the game formula.
Like horizon does it good. I honestly can’t imagine playing the game just rushing in fighting those robots.

Inverno205d ago

I'll be honest I didn't really like Horizons, but the stealth in that game was especially bad imo. Clever however letting ya see the walking patterns of the robots, cause we know AI in games usually have a set path so making that be seen through the in game overlay was neat. But can you really call that stealth when you know exactly where these things are going? You're quite literally just hiding in tall grass just to hack em when they get close. Other than that there's never a reason to go into "stealth" cause running past em is enough, they just stop chasing you.

I just think in general that when a game is more action than stealth, you should let it be more of a straight forward action game. I think for me UNCHARTED 2 did it best. The stealth was just something that you could do as long as you weren't seen. There's no tall grass in that game, so stealth wasn't really thought of as an option to go through levels. Just happens organically until you're seen then you go back to shooting.

Inverno

Without it aren't you just relying on rngezus for bathing during stealth gameplay?

CosmicTurtle204d ago

I think you just don’t like stealth, this is fine.

Inverno204d ago

I like stealth that doesn't rely on tall grass and hiding in it. I like stealth when it isn't a mechanic thrown into a game that clearly isn't the intended way of playing through a level. When I have a stealth option I become obsessive on making sure I get through the level without being seeing. So when the level is instead designed to end in a gun fight, or in action fight it's extremely frustrating for me. Why add stealth to what's clearly intended to be an action game? Why let me go through it in stealth just to have more enemies show up as if they were called for backup?

I love that these style of devs are coming back, gives me q little hope in the future of the gaming industry

jznrpg205d ago

They could have made it 2D, they could have made it a visual novel they could have made it in VR. I don’t really see the point of the article.

Also you can make an open world game without a stealth mechanic. Not saying they should but it could be done.

Pyrofire95205d ago

No they couldn't, it wouldn't be lore accurate and Games Workshop would have stopped them.
It also just wouldn't make any sense for a Space Marine game. It would be more apt to say "could have had you take cover behind a waist high wall." and poked fun at that because that was a specific design choice and something they promoted when releasing the first Space Marines game.
