There's Still Confusion About Whether PS5 Slim Faceplates Will Fit The PS5 Pro

Press Start says: "The PS5 Pro was announced a few weeks ago with an almost identical design to the PS5 Slim with both consoles using the same external disc drive.

This led people to think that both consoles would use the same faceplates, especially given the disc drive comes with a faceplate (1 out of 4 parts) that will presumably work with both consoles, although this has now become unclear."

Just wait till some early adopters get the product and shares the info online ... how hard is that?

Seraphim227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

while I agree..... there's something to be desired about having that info posted in retailers description; especially at PS Direct. For instance the disc drive. I know it's for both Slim and Pro, but the listings specifically state, "model group – slim" which would lead to confusion amongst typical consumers. The same can be said about the plates which have the same description. If they work with Pro simply update the product listings. If not update to specifically state Slim only. These little details are important to inform the consumer. A lack of clarification leads to questions, confusion, etc.

that being said, at first glance they don't look like they'd fit. At the same time maybe the additional height of the Pro is due to those fins, and the plates are still the same size so they do fit. I mean if the disc drive works on both Slim and Pro then that panel is the same size on both consoles.....

I reckon the fins are the difference and they'll both fit but yeah would be nice to get clarity. I'm sure they'll get to it.

I think Sony would atleast design the new pricey console in such a way to have similar plate attachment are/points.
They already did the base PS5 to slim design change .... rendering the earlier plates unusable, you'd think they'd not do that again?
But they did .... according to some reddit posts, they are not interchangeable, due to change in curvature, change in rear venting design & the upper plates are actually slightly taller ... WTF Sony?

Eonjay226d ago

No need.. First, Yes the slime plates worm on Pro. Also, there will be pretty of hands on reviews before it even launches.

Neonridr226d ago

or Sony could be clearer for those people who want to change the look of their Pro. It's possible these special colors may not last, and if you wait until the Pro releases for someone to test, you might be too late to get one.

Babadook7227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

I think there’s no chance they fit. They aren’t the same size. PS5 Pro is almost as big as OG PS5.

Edit. Oh interesting. The pro simply has extra vent space between the upper and lower segments.

CrimsonIdol227d ago

Yeah but they've also accordioned out that racing stripe to get an extra inch or so haven't they? and lets be honest, the PS5 "slim" is also almost as big as the OG PS5

Babadook7227d ago (Edited 227d ago )

“Accordioned”

Lol

mkis007227d ago

From what I understand, the pro's extra size is all in the middle ridges...it's why The existing drive and cover fit on the pro.

Pyrofire95227d ago

im still confused that there weren't 30th anniversary faceplates

badz149226d ago

why would you think that they will sell just the faceplate for that? They want to sell consoles and clearly it works based on the pre-order situations

Destiny1080227d ago

why else would they add that stupid stripe if its not going to fit

cbuc1125225d ago

Extra ventilation is stupid?

Hideo Kojima is a little bummed as Death Stranding 2 is testing way better

"I'm not interested in appealing to the mass market, or selling millions of copies."

I’m replaying the first game it’s great. It’s not for everyone no doubt. There are still a lot of people playing it.

-Foxtrot10h ago

Then why do a sequel straight away?

Why not something else like maybe a horror game similar to Silent Hills but rebranded into a new IP.

Reverse psychology...ok I won't buy it then.

Eonjay1h ago

To be honest, he is in a great situation if he doesn't have to make a mass market product. Means he can make what he wants. I think that's great.

For some reason this reminds me of issues artist have brought up regarding AI 'art'. Where literally everything is sourced from other artists. Invluding AI art in games seems like a legal nightmare.

S2Killinit1h ago

If AI is left alone as a free platform similar to what we did with the internet, it wouldnt be an issue. But if we allow companies to patent parts of the i termet as theor own walled gardens, then yes, there would be patent wars and legal nightmare.

As to this, the title is misleading, the game’s art is not plagiarism, someone included a painting(s) that beloned to some artist, in the code.

Eonjay1h ago

Well, do you think companies should be able to include AI generated art in their game if the art is generated using the work from other people? Or should AI art be considered original and the source work be considered inspiration?

Ninver57m ago

Shut up and finish the game off. Hopefully it doesn't suck.
