Final Fantasy XIII on Schedule & Not Delayed

OXCGN Writes:

"By now almost everyone has heard the terrible 'news' about the 'delay' of Final Fantasy XIII in North American and European regions. Of course the blame squarely lies with Microsoft, the tyrannical multinational corporation intent on destroying the entire gaming industry…yadda yadda…What utter fanboy rubbish."

"I understand the frustration, as I am hopelessly devoted to the Final Fantasy franchise and the thought of waiting until at least April 2010 for the newest instalment is disheartening, though somewhat expected. In fact, even though I write for an Xbox 360 focused website, I will be purchasing FFXIII on the PS3."

Immortal Kaim5991d ago

Makes sense to me. We will be getting FFXIII sooner than previous FF games, I just hate waiting.

chaosatom5991d ago (Edited 5991d ago )

It's looks like they don't care.

And to me, what they are Implying is that they are going to delay it further if some 'Problems' do occur Like porting to xbox or something. That's what that statement means to me when they say that.

I mean, are they planning on porting the game and at the same time doing localization.

Then Obviously, ---->the Resources are going towards the porting and -----> less towards localization, which leads to ----> more time ----->Which means a delay.

EDIT: ok, I guess if MS payed for resources for the porting then it's will be ok.

meepmoopmeep5991d ago

who cares?

we still blame MSFT

:)

coolfool5991d ago

Before FFXIII was multi-platform, before Microsoft was on board does anyone else remember Square Enix saying that they were aiming for a worldwide release? That they wanted to focus on localisation early to completely remove or at least majorly shorten the gap between the Japanese and other versions of the game. This is due to them focusing more on the western markets.

And now that isn't happening. Either they weren't ever going to do that or there must be some other reason. Now, what could that be?

SaiyanFury5990d ago (Edited 5990d ago )

Square-Enix has been working on FFXIII for about 3-4 years now. Of course there's a waiting period between the regions, but considering that other RPG developers, ie. Sega with Valkyria Chronicles, it only took them a few months to translate the game and record english voice acting. Sega isn't even an RPG-focused company. S-E originally gave a release window of the PS3-only version "sometime mid to late 2009" but since the announcement of the 360 version, they announced "the PS3 version won't release in the west until the 360 version is ready for release in the west". That doesn't sound like translation time, that sounds like them purposely holding the game back, either from donations from Microsoft or because they want to maximize profits on both platforms. Although I'm assuming it'll sell better on PS3 simply because many people who bought or will buy a PS3, expect the game on a PS console. Having it on a different console just 'feels' wrong. I bought FF7, FF8, FF9, and FF Tactics on the original PlayStation. I bought FF10 and FF12 on the PS2. Final Fantasy on a different platform is just awkward for me. I'll be getting the PS3 version whenever they finally decide it's time to release the 360 version.

@ coolfool

You're exactly right, I remember S-E stating that they wanted to shorten the gap between regional releases. Obviously, for some reason, most likely monetary, they don't care anymore about that. I still think with their recent love affair with Micro$oft, that has everything to do with it. S-E started out this gen supporting Sony, then seemingly they jumped ship, most likely jumping into dollar sign-shaped life rafts provided by a famous/anonymous multinational corporation that develops broken operating systems.

Hopefully ppl will 'read' the article and the information before crying BS or foul . . . simply read it first then see the facts about FF's release dates over the last 7 years.

jackdoe5991d ago

A lot has changed in the last 7 years so you cannot really use it as a basis as fact. Hell, in the years preceeding the PS3, Sony dominated. So the PS3 must be completely dominating right now, right? The fact that this line of reasoning comes with a false answer shows that the argument is flawed.

prowiew5991d ago

I said this before but everyone seems to disagree with me. The proble at n4g is that you cant never clarify something. If you do, some other excuses will appear. It is the nature of n4g. Its a little sad, but I enjoy it.

TheColbertinator5991d ago

Thank God this was cleared up.I was about to start another SE rant after that last article

Nathan Drake5991d ago

Will the final game be any GOOD,is the real question.

Immortal Kaim5991d ago

That's the whole point though, no one is responsible. Good question, but one we find out at a latter date. Given the previous iterations quality Im fairly optimistic.

TapiocaMilkTea5991d ago

Who are you kidding, Final Fantasies are ALWAYS good....
I hate the wait too, but the worst thing a company can do is half ass a highly anticipated game hoping it'll sell on hype alone. SE never does that, at least not for FF, they will make you wait, but they always deliver.

blackpanther255990d ago

Well that is your opinion.
My opinion is that final fantasy XI and XII both suck cause they have lame as story ( of course there are other reasons why XI and XII are bad).

Raoh5991d ago

not buying it. before all this, squares stance was to release simultaneously to the east and west.

now its delayed. to say its not microsofts fault is an xbox fanboy spin.

"We're making the PS3 version first, and then porting to the 360 later," director Motomu Toriyama stated in a video, according to GameSpot. "I'm telling them to not think about the Xbox 360 right now...We can think about it after the development kits arrive."

Square previously promised that the Xbox 360 release of Final Fantasy XIII would hit alongside the PS3 version in Europe and North America, prompting fears that the completed PS3 game will be held back in those regions until the port is finished,.

Immortal Kaim5991d ago

There has NEVER been a simultaneous release in Japan, North America and Europe, there is something called the 'localisation' process and Translations which take considerable time (refer to previous game dates), that is a FACT.

Raoh5991d ago

thats right there hasnt been one. the point is that the goal this time around was to break that standard.

Mr_President_5991d ago

infinite undiscovery, last remnant, star ocean iv, and their worldwide releases say hello.

Immortal Kaim5991d ago

We are talking about Final Fantasy games here. It has been stated several times that they aim to decrease the localisation time with FFXIII. From Mr. Kitase
"Until now, the Japanese versions of Final Fantasy would release in Japan, and then six months later, the North American version would be released, and then another three to six months later, the European versions would ship -- so there was usually a gap of almost a year by the time every territory got their version of the latest Final Fantasy. That's why we'd include new features or elements. But with FFXIII, we're aiming to decrease that gap and lessen the window, so there are no particular additions planned for the U.S. version."

There were never plans to release it in Japan, North America and Europe at the same time.

Peow5991d ago

"There were never plans to release it in Japan, North America and Europe at the same time. "

In the same way there were never plans to put it on the 360...

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972541d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus541d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim540d ago (Edited 540d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda540d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B539d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125540d ago (Edited 540d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic540d ago (Edited 540d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic540d ago (Edited 540d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981539d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot539d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda539d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot539d ago

Elda

Not just mine mate

A large majority

So….

Traecy539d ago

N4G commenters such as yourself aren't the majority. The game was well received.

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay539d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12541d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay539d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183541d ago (Edited 541d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB540d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
