God of War Ragnarok Mod Bypasses PSN Account Requirement on PC

God of War Ragnarok mod byasses PSN account requirement on PC, allowing players to enjoy the game without logging into PlayStation Network.

KwietStorm_BLM257d ago

Oh noes the accounts is coming for muh rights

ActualWhiteMan257d ago

Until they patch it with the next update

Michiel1989256d ago

or just turn auto updates for that game off

andy85257d ago

Honestly don't see the big deal. We have to make an account to do basically anything else. Gamepass, Steam, GOG, Epic, Netflix, Amazon. Who cares? Just make an account and play the game.

SDuck257d ago

exactly. I had to make a xbox account to play fh5 and never complained. I don't see the problem, as long as it doesn't affect performance like 2K's known to do

neutralgamer1992257d ago

I am a PC gamer and I don’t see any issue with that like the person above Said we have to have different accounts to play different publisher games so what’s one more

Christopher257d ago

It's a bandwagon of people who are just anti-sony on PC and yet... want to play the games. If only these people went after all third-party logins. If only. Maybe we wouldn't have them to begin with.

Michiel1989256d ago

pc gamers also complained when blizzard did it with Diablo, and many times before and I will do it again. Stop acting like people are picking on Sony, it's been happening forever. Sony is one of the biggest companies so ofc a game like this gets more backlash than a game from a smaller dev

Sephiroushin257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

Gamepass, steam, gog, epic, Netflix, amazon all of them provide a service and sell you stuff, what does sony do if youre buying off steam?

who cares? … well clearly Sony cares; else they would not put a mandatory psn account on a stupid single player game!

And @christopher… i believe you are a mod here yet with that comment it does seems like you're living under a rock or something seriously!
PC gamer always complain about steam and any other launchers requiring 3rd party accounts like ubisoft, ea, and even about the epic online service’s requirements even when the game is not online and doesn't really need it so you're completely wrong about pc gamers not complaining about it

Christopher257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

@Sephiroushin: Prove it with news from the last few years that matches Sony's hatred of logins since Helldivers 2 added it back in. Diablo IV? Nothing, just seasonal complaints. NHL 25? Nothing. EA Sports FC 25? Nothing. Jedi Survivor? Nothing.

You say I'm living under a rock, and yet I see at least monthly news complaining about yet another Sony game on PC having login requirements and nothing on anyone else. Perhaps you're the one living under that rock, the one out in the field where the few people who actually say anything exists, but it never makes the news.

DodoDojo257d ago

Not exactly the same thing and I think you know that. The PSN account requirement was stopping people from playing Helldivers in certain regions, despite Sony still selling the game in those regions. I dont remember any of the other companies account requirements doing that?

Sephiroushin257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

Cant speak about NHL or ea sport since i dont really follow sport games but Diablo and Jedi both got attacked on steam forums even for their save datas; maybe not a same level for obvious reasons; also most people bought the game outside steam (also diablo is an online game)…

But to bring another example here; rockstar is currently getting ddos attacks from left to right since they implemented the anticheat that broke Steam Deck compatibility and i havent even seen news about it here; i am pretty sure i would have seen them if it was related to sony; pc gamers are not just against Sony, its not a bandwagon against it; they mostly go against anyone that do something useless and not needed/unwelcome or however you wanna call it!

Its just that Sony for obvious reason is bigger and everybody has their eyes on it because their news spread faster, in part thanks to their fans that go to defend it faster than a lightning; and well it becomes a mess back and forth… some fans are so delusional that are calling “pirate” anybody who use the mod, people are buying the game, they just do not want to log in, piracy would be if they didnt pay for the game…

Saying that, you may not agree but Single player games should never ever require a mandatory 3rd party log in and I am not talking about psn but any 3rd party, if a game has online and need it for crossplay thats a different story but then again it should be implemented day one, not a month later which was the issue with Helldivers, plus the banned regions which made it worst

Angyobangyo257d ago

Because it's another required third party login being added to an already long list. A giant corporation wants your data, it's that simple. If gamers are ok with that then fine, but somehow a mod that bypasses a login to play a Sony game triggers PS diehards.

Michiel1989256d ago

Diablo got less backlash over that because the rest of the game also sucked and it was way more popular to complain about that instead, but before it launched there was a lot of shittalking about that.

Michiel1989256d ago

also the more useless logings everywhere, the harder game preservation becomes

Christopher256d ago (Edited 256d ago )

***The PSN account requirement was stopping people from playing Helldivers in certain regions***

Blizzard account logins literally stop people from playing games in more regions and people have to VPN just to create accounts and to play the game. So, no, the exact same thing.

*** maybe not a same level for obvious reasons; also most people bought the game outside steam (also diablo is an online game)…***

***rockstar is currently getting ddos attacks from left to right since they implemented the anticheat that broke Steam Deck compatibility***

1. So you agree with me.
2. Jedi Survivor isn't
3. And where are the stories about that? Let alone, they also have a third-party login that has not been attacked like Sony games, including online games. No one is DDoSing because they have to log into their MP game with R* credentials, but we get news articles for Concord having PSN logins.

***Its just that Sony for obvious reason is bigger and everybody has their eyes on it***

How the heck do you say I live under a rock and then agree with me? And in what world is Sony bigger than EA or Activision? C'mon.Sony's annual best sellers and performers are from those companies.

***Saying that, you may not agree but Single player games should never ever require a mandatory 3rd party log in and I am not talking about psn but any 3rd party***

I literally mentioned Jedi Survivor to cover all instances of types of games. (All games are SP w/optional or forced MP except Survivor, which is entirely SP and all require EA's login). There were no bandwagons against Jedi Survivor or articles written about attacking them for the login.

If people are only going to focus on Sony at the level they are, they are not attacking SP logins, they are attacking just Sony. Let alone every Sony game, including MP, gets attacked for this. You can't only attack Sony this hard, you have to make it obvious to not accept it at all instances. Otherwise it's just performative actions being propped up by bandwagoning and not actually serving the goal of no third-party logins.

Edit: Also, I said prove it with news, you have not done that. The mainstream isn't going the hear about anything if it's not news. Again, who is living under rocks? The mainstream isn't looking under your rock to find news, you have to put it in their face. And that's what happening with Sony news, it's in their face. This other stuff? Not even front page on N4G or Reddit. No one is reading it except the few people who are always in the know. There is no bandwagon effect. No mainstream pickup. It's just mentioned and we move on.

well... its not quite what I was expecting but still nice they honor the spartan.

VenomUK84d ago

What an absolute half-hearted and shoddy way for Sony to commemorate the epic God of War series. A few alternative skins and the option to buy t-shirts or vinyl. It would have been better to not have any celebration. Abysmal.

No offense Sony… but nobody is playing God of war ragnarok in 2025…

andy8584d ago

Every month in 2025 God of War Ragnarok has had more steam users than Starfield.

Inverno84d ago

Bruv I'm pretty there are more people playing literally anything BUT Starfield.

Profchaos84d ago

Tbh I wouldn't be surprised if there was more people playing bubsy 3d than starfield

Profchaos84d ago

Yeah no one at all especially when it just became available to the millions of PS plus subscribers

PanicMechanic84d ago (Edited 84d ago )

Maybe it’s because I sold my Ps5 last year and built a new PC. But ragnarok I finished in 2022 when it released. Don’t have any motivation to replay.

Profchaos84d ago (Edited 84d ago )

It would have been nice to have a PS plus drop of the ps2 original though I get that

Cacabunga84d ago

I actually installed it again today to try the latest roguelite DLC. Costumes is a nice addition but def expected something else.

Killer2020UK84d ago

Mate, I only started playing the previous one. It holds up unbelievably well considering it was a PS4 release

Chard84d ago

Damn Sony
You keep on remastering recent games and yet choose not to for a franchise that's celebrating it's 20 years?
I'm sure a lot of old and new fans would appreciate being able to play the entire saga using their current gen consoles.

Shane Kim84d ago (Edited 84d ago )

Sure but that would require to actually remaster. Not selling the same game from last gen in a new box and call it remaster.

Profchaos84d ago

I admit I got a bit swept up in thinking we would get a PS classics drop of the first game on PS plus not a remaster or anything just running under the new ps2 emulator id be.halpy with that or the PSP games that deserve more praise really

An account for PlayStation Network will become optional for these titles on PC. Players who still opt to sign into a PlayStation Network account will also enjoy added benefits like trophies and friend management."
