If these estimations are reasonably true and comparing them with Microsoft's sell-through data from June 2023, this could indicate the X|S has shipped 6-7mio units between June '23 - June '24.

Playstation sold approx 20 million PS5's in the same time. Console-wise, this gen is much worse than last gen for Xbox.

I'm done with Xbox at this point. Thankfully most of my digital games were Xbox Gold free titles and I bought mostly physical outside of a ridiculous sale, so I'm not missing much.

Since I bought a PS5 a couple years ago I only turn my Xbox one for a game that isn't cross play with my friends.

I’ve been done with them since midway through 360 lifetime. I will get a used Series X for my 360 games and the novelty of it because I think they go all digital from here out but I haven’t felt I missed out on anything and it’s been over a decade since I quit Xbox

Have done it 4 times so far this gen. Got a second hand S for cheap for 360 games. Was fun for a few days then quickly started collecting dust. Then a friend offered me a great deal on the x. I took it sold the S had fun playing likes of oblivion at 60fps on a console. Then again novelty wore of fast so I sold it.

Then earlier this year I found a series S for £95. Again used it for 360 games for a bit but novelty wore off and once again I sold it. Then I found a series X for dirt cheap. Got it as I knew I make a profit on it but ended up keeping it for a month. Then sold it again for profit to put towards the upcoming pro.

If you are just getting it for 360 games. Then even though they look and play great. Just be mindful the novelty may wear it fairly quick.

@occelot wouldn't it make sense to just play 360 games on a one X you can get that for near nothing and still get the X enhancements without frame rate boost which I believe causes more issues that it solves

But I also abandoned my 360 when it was clear Xbox would rather persue casual gamers with the Kinect soni got a PS3 and loved it. I never had a og Xbox.

360 is when I dipped out. I almost got the One X. But then MS weirdly announced they where bringing their games to PC that year. Bought Gears 4 on PC, and thought it was trash and a huge disappointment coming off Gears 1-3, so I just never bothered with Xbox again.

If you haven’t seen deep discounts on Xbox yet, you never will. Microsoft deeply discounted the Xbox One and still lost marketshare to PlayStation. If anything, you’ll see discounts on Xbox as a means to sell Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions at $240/year.

Agreed that these are comparatively abysmal sales numbers over the last year, but is anyone else kind of surprised that even still, about 6 million consoles were still sold? Going back in history (I'm thinking the 16 bit gen), 6 million consoles is still a hefty number.

I'm not inferring that Xbox is doing great with these numbers. What I'm trying to compare to is the sales of consoles of the past. Turbografx-16 is rumored to have sold less than 750k US consoles in its lifetime, and something around 10 million lifetime in Japan. The fact that 6 million sold in a year for XBox is considered a failure is fascinating from a historical context.

- Kinect 1

- Closing many of their own studios during the second half of the 360 generation, coasting off good will earned previously and third party games

- 2013 DRM

- Forcing people to buy Kinect 2, and increasing the price by $100 as a result

- XBO being weaker than PS4

- Placing Phillip in charge of Xbox

- Canceling Scalebound (while also lying by claiming that its for the betterment of the Xbox)

- Not building up their own studios or brands, instead relying on buying out proven hits like Minecraft, Gears, Call of Duty

- Releasing everything on PC, giving PC gamers even less of a reason to buy their console

- Releasing games on PlayStation, giving all console gamers no reason to buy their console

- Putting all their hopes and dreams on a Game Rental service instead of building up a library of must-play games

Given all the crap they've done over the past 15 years, I'm actually surprised they have people willing to support them at this point. 28 million is more than they deserve.

Xbox has unfortunately made their console irrelevant by releasing their games on other consoles and going out of their way to make it so you don't need an Xbox.

Their developers are also out of touch. They are listing to DF recommendations about console games being ok at 30 fps even though they are not console gamers. They were actually shocked when Mark Cerny came out and said 75% of users on PS5 play in performance mode. Because of this, Avowed will likely be Dead on Arrival, much like Hellblade 2. This also has me worried about their other titles like Fable.

Shipment and sales are not the same though.

There's a discrepancy of around 7 million units between the last sales figure and shipped console total.

Based on that it's probably reasonable to speculate actual sales are around 26 to 27 million globally with the remainder as retail inventory
