PS5 Pro Reveal Doesn't Go as Expected, Community Reaction Largely Negative and Unimpressed

Following the PS5 Pro reveal, it seems gamers are unimpressed with it so far, and most reactions have been negative across social media.

Vits259d ago

Youtube like/dislike ratio is also at a 63% dislike at the moment.

Cacabunga259d ago

I dont care abt a Pro withiut a game dedicated to it or at least this gen exclusive. Horizon , TLOU… come on.

PS4Pro was a far better deal and made sense.

I want this thing to floo, especially at this price.

259d ago
helicoptergirl258d ago

I don't give a fk. I will sell my PS5 and then I'll buy the Pro. I'm not rich either. I'm sure there will be many people out there like me, especially when GTA6 drops.

gaffyh258d ago

Think they are seeing how much they can rinse the elites, then price will come down in 3-6 months when they know no one else will bite at that price point. Also, it is likely to make the regular PS5 look "cheap" in comparison. Pretty sneaky overall really.

gigoran8258d ago

@Cacabunga dedicated game? it's still a PS5 ya know. every ps5 game is a dedicated ps5 game. but you probably mean new games that take advantage, in which case look at the release calendar. they coming.

Babadook7258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

I thought the video was underwhelming. I’ll probably still get one. I need to see what the upcoming PlayStation showcase has in store and what new games I could play on this thing.

Good

If we let this slide Sony will think they can do whatever they want until even those who aren't bothered now will soon start moaning themselves.

259d ago
darthv72259d ago (Edited 259d ago )

i think people should start buying Series in protest.... show Sony they would rather buy the competition than pay more for just meager upgrade.

Charlieboy333258d ago

@ Darth Nope, now THAT would be a waste of money

darthv72258d ago

@Chucky... buying into a secondary platform and being treated to the plethora of titles at your disposal that are not on your preferred platform is a waste of money now?????

fr0sty258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

"Though right now microcenter in America is selling with there in house brand 4060 gaming pc's with 6core cpu's for $749"

And y'all were whining about PS5 Pro's 8 core Ryzen being too weak... pick a complaint and stick with it. A weak 6 core CPU is going to have far worse framerates than a PS5 Pro. The 4060 is also a weak GPU compared to PS5 Pro. A 4060 is roughly equivalent to a AMD RX 7600. PS5 Pro is equivalent to a 7700XT, but with the addition of PSSR... and you have to pay $50 more for that underpowered PC that won't see most of those playstation games for years, if at all. Also, a "disc drive" and a "4K UHD Blu-Ray drive" are far from the same thing. Those cost $100 for PC as well. Try to learn a thing or two about the tech you talk about.

Also, WTH is "propitiatory" supposed to mean... proprietary? Geez...

just_looken258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

@fr0sty

You just compared a delivery bicycle to a delivery pickup truck

It seems you never touched a decent pc or perhaps are scared of one but please everyone learn before you disagree.

Also the ps5 pro so far seems to be using rdna 2.0 which is the 6,000 series of cards.

Also that cpu i showed there is a 10 core cpu 6 p cores 4 e cores

But like i thought there will be people buying this screaming about doing 8k 60fps gaming or some bs.

"s. PS5 Pro will also launch with the latest wireless technology, Wi-Fi 7, in territories supporting this standard. VRR and 8K gaming are also supported."

I took that from there official press statement

https://blog.playstation.co...

Yes there are comments saying its more powerful that a 4090/7800x3d pc LMAO.

So yes a gaming pc that you can upgrade configure the games to your liking even mod the games is a better buy. Who cares that you half to wait 2 years for the astro bot 2 port you know it will happen with better graphic features and some mods support or alot.

fr0sty258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

"CPU Specifications ; Total Cores 6 ; # of Performance-cores 6, # of Efficient-cores 0"

Nope, the PC you linked is a 6 core. A delivery bicycle indeed...

Also, PS4 is RDNA 3/4 Hybrid, with ray tracing features not found in any current GPU.

Gran Turismo 7 already supports 8K on PS5 Pro, or 4K with full ray tracing.

Meanwhile, Microsoft is charging $600 for a Series X with nothing upgraded but the hard drive (which is still slower than OG PS5's)...

gigoran8258d ago

I mean, lets not forget who started this trend with project scorpio. I like the good old days. sony would have their 10 year lifetime plan, and somewhere within that decade the new generation of PlayStation would come out. I'll probably get one eventually because I know one highly anticipated game that is going to take advantage of it.

ZacultronTheFirst258d ago

This is called Desensitization of the masses. Slowly but surely. That's their gameplan for some time. Unless we the consumers speak with out wallets.

darthv72258d ago

@gigo... Scorpio came out Nov 2017, PS4 Pro was Nov 2016.

So, about who started what now....

Profchaos258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

Said this the other day there's two real ways to enact change in the industry:

A) invest in gaming companies and publishers you will be entitled to vote in the organisations leadership directly giving you the ability to impact change and maybe even profit a little

B) vote with your wallet in this case simply don't buy it when the sales figures show that theirs no mass adoption of a pro they will pivot same as they did for VR

B can also force A but you don't want it to get to that point it's already to late by then

@darth I think instead of a series of you put that money towards a switch or switch 2 you'd be better served by opening up a pathway to games you can't play at all and have no future hope of playing over games that will come.to.ps5 in a few months

fr0sty258d ago

Sony has not deviated from their 10 year lifespan... PS5 will continue to get great games for years to come, but there's now an option to play them at higher resolutions and framerates with better ray tracing, for those who want to pay for it.

258d ago
Crows90258d ago

@darth

Maybe let's not reward the company that has worked diligently to destroy gaming and the physical market.. xbots should be doing the same with their woes

RpgSama259d ago

They killed it at $700 price tag, this is not even a mid-gen update, this is a late gen update with a very high price tag, even the PS6 with a generational upgrade would have issues at that Price.

This is the same CPU and No Disk Drive, will not buy and hopefully they learn their lesson for ps6

Kyizen258d ago

Not a late gen update at all PS5 will be around till 2028 and then probably a year or two after with cross gen games on the PS6. The PS5 Pro is a great option for those later years.

258d ago
PhillyDonJawn257d ago

Yeah PS6 should target $600. I think in this day in age $500 just isn't big enough of a jump to leave last gen behind. $700 however is too steep of an entry price

Markdn259d ago

Erm no it's not, stop making facts up. 69k likes 10 k dislikes. Seems like win win to me. Are your looking at Phil Spencer approval rating again lol

Vits259d ago

Sorry, indeed I was wrong.

Stop acting like a fanboy. If not for your own self-respect, at least do it out of respect for your mother, who carried you for nine months. She definitely didn't go through that just for you to be a pawn for a major corporation.

TheCaptainKuchiki259d ago

If they're smart, they'll cut at least $100/100€ from the price. Or they can play dumb and watch this console flop.

258d ago
andy85259d ago

From what is see it's 70k likes and 53k dislikes

Jin_Sakai258d ago

$699 was the first mistake. The second was no new exclusive game to be a showpiece.

Shane Kim258d ago

It was a technical showcase. How hard can it be to understand? Now if the state of play shows nothing new, I'm 100% behind you.

Lightning77258d ago

September 19 they'll have State Of Play showing Indies and Third party stuff. No new first party announcements unfortunately.

Last stop is the Vga's for potential 1st party stuff.

EazyC258d ago

How do you get to see that? I really miss dislikes/likes on YouTube vids.

Markdn258d ago

Gotta be fan boys or the muppets will take over, it's how the world works duh.

TheEroica258d ago

Remember that your dollar is what drives their decisions. You have more power than you think. Don't buy into trends that ruin the hobby for everyone.... A bloated ps5 with the same crappy cpu and a PC price tag is ridiculous. They don't even make games that max out the capabilities of the launch ps5.

Don't be milked...

258d ago
Profchaos258d ago

That's actually better than I thought it would be.

I'm not in support of the pro I've got no intention of getting one it's stupidly expensive and I'm already a underwhelmed in general by the generation despite a few highlights like Astro bot.

It seems that most of the support for this is coming from young adults in their early twenties who have disposable incomes judging by comments on the announcement on social media

258d ago
Hotpot258d ago

as a Sony fan since PS1 era, apparently the PS3 moment wasn't enough a kick in the teeth for them. 800 euro price without disc drive is pure BS, I say let the console DOA just like Concord.

258d ago
mkis007258d ago

Hey that's better than the expected attach ratio, so I'm guessing Sony is pretty happy.

+ Show (11) more repliesLast reply 257d ago
TheNamelessOne259d ago

Almost $800 if you want the disc drive. Yeah, I'm just skipping Playstation this gen, honestly. Was going to do what I did last gen and grab the Pro, but that cost is just too much. I'm sticking with PC releases.

TheProfessional259d ago (Edited 259d ago )

And they didn't even have a new game to go with it. Or maybe that was supposed to be Concord...

$800 with a disc drive is an insult. And they're not even improving backwards compatibility. PS has abandoned all of their franchises to make live service games and a pointless $700 Pro console. They've also been overcharging for remasters since PS4 instead of just making more games backwards compatible.

RaidenBlack258d ago

All attention now towards the rumoured Switch 2 reveal later this month.

Grab the base PS5. Makes economical sense and you still get a great library.

TheProfessional259d ago (Edited 259d ago )

How much of it is actually PS5 exclusive though? Ragnarok is mediocre and also on PS4. Same with Horizon. And the rest of the PS5 games have mostly been remasters.

Spiderman 2 and concord are not worth $500 for a PS5.

andy85259d ago (Edited 259d ago )

Ragnarok is mediocre? Come on. And I've played 15+ games that arent remasters and only on PS5 console wise

TheEroica258d ago

And your launch ps5 is going to play ps6 games two thirds of the way through ps6 generation. Don't be fooled, this is them testing to see what they can get away with for next gen. Only a sucker would be milked this bad.

EnViiDisnuCCa258d ago

It's not almost 800 it well passed it my brother 700 plus tax that's 760 or 770 plus 20-30 dollars for the stand plus another 80 plus tax for the drive that's more close to 900 for 200 more I can get a decent pc n will be more advanced that's ps5 n problay ps6

Rude-ro258d ago

Day one, no upgrade other than the most up to date gpu costs you $1,200 with zero game production for said hardware…
And your value is where?

TheNamelessOne258d ago

Mods, agency over my performance and visuals, multiple storefronts thus better sales and cheaper games, not paying for online, an insanely large indie and AA scene that either stays directly on PC or only comes to console much later, access to virtually any game made over the decades of gaming on just one machine.

I think time will tell. For well off consumers that regularly buy $700 phones this will be something to buy during the holidays.

PapaBop259d ago

Thing is though, phone is necessity and offers a lot more value overall in terms of improvements or at least they do for me as I get on contract every two years. A PS5 Pro is essentially just a better spec PS5. I was hoping to pick one up but expected at the 600 mark, 700 for a discless console, no thanks.

ocelot07259d ago (Edited 259d ago )

I somewhat disagree. I have a S24 Ultra and have had one since February. Though it's a good phone. I preferred my old much cheaper s21 fe. I just don't see the point of these £1k phones. I think apple just announced there new iPhones will support Ray Tracing. Can play Resident evil 7 at like 30fps. Cool for a phone but the phones cost over £1000.

258d ago
NotoriousWhiz258d ago

Most people don't spend 700$ up front for a phone. They get it bundled into the monthly price for their cell service and usually at a discount in exchange for a years long contract.

crazyCoconuts258d ago

And most people won't buy a $700 console. I agree.
It's not aimed at most people.

theindiearmy258d ago

I haven't paid more than $100 for a flagship phone in years because of trade-in programs. Often times I'm only paying the tax, because the trade-in makes the phone free.

I wish consoles would go more the way of phones. I'd be all for 1-2 year hardware updates with a trade-in program where I could upgrade for $100 or less.

TheEroica258d ago

Sucker's normalizing a milking this hard is bad for our hobby.

RhinoGamer88259d ago

No stand - no disc drive - no major CPU upgrade = no purchase

Amplitude258d ago

I sold my PS5 after I got the Ratchet Platinum. Borrowed my friend's for Astro Bot and was intending on buying a Pro but honestly, lack of a disc drive is just so dirty.

If they had to they shoulda just made it $750 and slapped a disc drive in there at this point. We all know the removal isn't a cost cutting measure, but a scheme to get you to only buy games on their store though. Just dirty. Unfortunately sticking with PC. God I miss physical media though

Overall great deals for everyone I guess.

For me personally though:

• "players who join PlayStation Plus during this year’s celebration can save up to 33% on select 12-month memberships."

• "players who are currently a PlayStation Plus Essential or Extra member, save 33% on the remainder of your membership when upgrading to PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe."

Ehhh ... Days of Play last until 11th. My subscription expires June, 14th.

I literally am laughing at me rn.

DivineHand1251h ago

If Sony allowed subscriptions to be sold by third party sellers like they did in the PS4 days, you would not have this problem.

VersusDMC38m ago

That's why everyone should get their subscriptions now as last years days of play was may 29 to 12th of june. Mine is expiring on the 7th so i will just get essential or possibly extra this year.

And you can atleast get 15 days of extra or premium at 33% off to try it out.

P_Bomb4h ago(Edited 4h ago)

Will see about getting my kid a cheaper PS Plus sub so he can backup and transfer his saves again. Really wish that was free ala XB.

Hopefully Destiny 2 The Final Shape comes with a free gear level upgrade like last year’s PS Plus offering. To bring you up to speed with all the content and everyone else. I still need to do a Nightfall Strike on Grandmaster difficulty, but ain’t got time to grind.

darthv724h ago

More like Days of Meh.... no specialized controllers or systems like in 2018 and 2019.

Eonjay3h ago(Edited 3h ago)

I mean it feels like you are forcing yourself to be negative here. Those are some really decent deals tbh. Also, everyone thought PS5 would go up to match Xbox so going down is a nice surprise too.

raWfodog59m ago(Edited 58m ago)

To be clear, what are you referring to when you say 'specialized'? Just wanted to know if you had a different take on these controller and system deals.

Deals on PS5 console offerings include:

In the United States and Canada, PlayStation 5 console – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle (Digital and Standard) will be available starting at $399.99 USD / $509.99 CAD (Save up to $119.99 USD / $159.99 CAD compared to buying separately).
In select regions such as Europe and Asia, PlayStation 5 console (Digital and Standard) will be on promotion, starting at €399.99 / £339.99 / ¥65,980.
$50 USD off PlayStation 5 Pro console

There will also be offers for PS5 accessories and games, including:

$50 USD off PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle
$30 USD off Pulse Explore wireless earbuds
$30 USD off DualSense Edge wireless controller
$20 USD off Access controller
$20 USD off DualSense wireless controller

This is their way to counter Nintendo Switch 2 launch week. I might get the discounted annual premium subs, but I think the game lineup is weak.
