Warhammer 40K: Space Marine 2 - PS5/Xbox Series X|S/PC Tech Review - Is 60FPS Viable on Consoles?

DigitalFoundry : We return to the final build of developer Saber's impressively realised take on the Warhammer 40K universe - where locking at 60FPS is a true challenge on today's consoles. PS5 and Series X offer two modes: the curiously labelled Speed mode (for 60FPS performance), and a 30fps quality mode - of which the latter is the more stable choice. On PC there's a huge range of options, and the sky is the limit - though a powerful CPU is recommended in dealing with the game's high level of on-screen enemies. Alex and Tom link up for an in-depth look at the current state of play.

This is interesting, this is literally the 3rd title published by Focus Entertainment that is struggling quite a bit on the PS5. Either their engine is more suited for the Series X or they’re not optimizing the PS5 versions at all.

Maybe the game's CPU-intensive and works better on a better CPU

phoenixwing229d ago

Their focus is probably pc and it's easy to port over to xbox because of it

Vits229d ago

I think it’s because the main version is designed for PC. Converting it to Xbox is relatively straightforward, but getting it to work as well on the PS5 takes a lot more effort, which might be beyond their budget and timeline.

It’s similar to what happens with many third-party games that run better on PS5. Porting them to Xbox becomes more challenging, which often lead to the Xbox version performing worse than it should, and the PC version being more broken.

Xbox Series X is simple the most powerful current gen console, the results are nothing but expected.

Riiiiiiiiight, except when it doesn't happen as expected and ps5 performance is better on most games, weird huh

Or that the Series X is actually more powerful and isn’t playing second fiddle just because PS5 is the lead platform on generally every title.

The analysis of consoles shows the Series X performing better than the PS5 followed by the series S. The Series X is technically more powerful than the PS5, but has a less efficient RAM setup. Performance was good on all system when played in quality mod, but the performance mode wasn’t a solid 60 fps on any console. I think Space Marine 2 would benefit from a 1440p dynamic 40FPS mode series X and PS5.

I’ll buy the game during Black Friday. It’s a bit too short for me to pay full price.

Eonjay228d ago

I will get it on a holiday sale and hope they patch the performance issues by then.

This is on my “get it on sale” list along with Star Wars

Grabbed Outlaws for $15 bucks on Ubisoft Plus. Probably the most fun I've had in an open world in years...and I'm not even a Star Wars fan.
