CONSCRIPT (XS) Review | VGChartz

VGChartz's Lee Mehr: "It goes without saying that CONSCRIPT is – first and foremost – a prodigious project by Jordan Mochi. Shouldering level design, narrative, puzzles, and more to this extent is an incredible rarity in today's age. And that singular vision is felt throughout each and every element. That also comes with potential drawbacks when inspired ideas that seem thematically consistent of this era partly vitiate its grander survival-horror aspirations. The otherwise-robust mechanical foundation gets snagged on barbed wire in the form of mismanaged level design, some cheap enemy encounters, and other miscellaneous detractions. But through it all, the journey remains a harrowing one that's easily worth volunteering your time and money to experience."

I have wishlisted this as I love WW1 trench warfare horror (even though the horror game "Trenches" ended up being terrible). Here's hoping this one delivers.

I really like the art style

Yeah, Trenches left a bad taste in my mouth too. If you're down for a classic RE survival-horror in the trenches I'm incredibly confident you'll at least enjoy this, *perhaps* even love it. The mechanics are all there:

-slower, more deliberate combat pacing
-this game's equivalent of Crimson Heads, making you weigh between killing or avoiding
-consumable ink ribbons for saving
-constrained inventory tension

It's just a shame that certain design snags dampened my enthusiasm. Because it'd be neck and neck with Crow Country were it not for those lesser qualities.

Thanks for that. I forgot about Crow Country!

To be fair, i played Trenches on Switch and I could not see a thing 2 meters ahead whereas in the PC version the visibility is far better and gives you a fighting chance.

I will also check Ad Infinitum when its goes on sale, seems decent enough

Even with better visibility on Series X, it's just another "avoid monster" horror that are a dime a dozen - and ALL running on Unity Engine.

Yeah, I haven't gotten around to Ad Infinitum or Amensia: The Bunker, sadly. I've heard great things about The Bunker too.

CONSCRIPT review - Hoping Through Hell | TechStomper

"Conscript is brutal, bloody and unrepentantly grim - a unique take on its subject matter and its genre, but one you'll need the stomach for."

Conscript Review – Sometimes surviving is the real horror | TheSixthAxis

TSA writes" Conscript is a worthy entry into the Survival Horror genre and comes highly recommended. It takes all the ingredients of the genre and marries them to a vital and under-represented part of history in video games to create a standout title that deserves a wider audience."
