After Indiana Jones' PS5 reveal, Xbox fans are losing faith in the future of the console brand due to a lack of exclusives.

Now they lose faith? Not after Xbox 360 games were ignored for half the gen because of Kinect sales? Not after the Xbox One reveal? Not after Crackdown 3 power of the cloud? Not after wait for E3x10? Not after Redfall was released? Add any more you like below

Juancho51270d ago

But you were called a rabid fanboy when you pointed out Microsoft wasnt focused on exclusive titles. They literally ignored them for a decade plus.

Crows90270d ago

Not to mention the excitement some fangirls exhibited when Microsoft went on a purchase spree of games that were already coming out for Xbox...only to have nothing change at all for them ...

I'll say it again I say happy for Microsoft does not care about the fans the only care about what makes them the most money. Anything else that is mentioned or spoken it's just PR

DodoDojo269d ago

They didn't ignore exclusives, they just kept releasing forgettable exclusives.

darthv72270d ago

Maybe its just me, but as a Gen X who has been in this hobby since 1977... I just dont give a crap about the corporations that make these decisions. i just buy what interests me and enjoy it. I never understood brand loyalty, so I dont have any faith to lose. I dont care if a game is exclusive or not because i always buy all the systems anyway. I like gaming too much to restrict my choices.

If anything, it seems the younger generation are too soft if they are letting corporate decisions dictate how they feel.

Einhander1972270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

What you said just shows how out of touch you are. Yea, just buy every console just buy all the games just buy a $3000 PC. Ya know most people don't have the money to "just buy it".

I'm not buying an xbox when I could spend that money on games or a PS5 Pro.

ocelot07270d ago

To be honest I fully agree with what you just said. However I will point out that if I was soely a Xbox owner. I would be annoyed and concerned. If Microsoft do in the next 3-5 years go full 3rd party (I think they will) and they do come out of the console business and focus on releasing games and maybe Xbox branded PC's. Then what happens to my Xbox digital purchases over the last 15-20 years? When they stop making consoles at some point the servers are going to be shut down what happens then?

When sega and atari dropped out the console business it wasn't to bad as there was no digital purchases to worry about when they left. With Microsoft there is 20+ years at steak.

darthv72270d ago

@Ocelot... your last word made me think of this: https://youtu.be/w4OwRUHE_-...

GhostScholar270d ago

I have all three consoles myself. I just okay what interests me like you said. I don’t know how you’re getting hate for your comment. I guess we’re the bad guys for not picking sides and just enjoying games we like. I personally mainly play Xbox for all my third party games and for gamepass. I also prefer the Xbox controller. I play Nintendo and PlayStation when they have an exclusive I like. What’s the big deal?

shinoff2183270d ago

Darth you can do both. I buy all three consoles, Every gen. I'm partial to Sony because they've consistently supplied games I've wanted and been pretty good with jrpgs(my favorite genre). If news came out tomorrow that jrpgs will no longer be represented on Playstation I'd jump to another console in a heartbeat. For me xbox has consistently dropped the ball for years. I keep buying them though, my latest was due to starfield. You can be partial to a certain system and still enjoy the others.

JackBNimble270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

Ok, but as a Gen-xer, also playing games since pong and the 2600, I can clearly see that MS gave it's own fans the middle finger.
There is absolutely no reason to buy an xbox now that their games are going to the ps5 , but tell me Gen-xer, what does the xbox gamer get out of this? Meanwhile ps5 are getting games from both consoles xbox fans don't get anything but remorse buying.

Reaper22_270d ago

Most gamers don't care if a game is exclusive. It's just a small fraction of console warriors who think they have a say in what these companies do. They want to sell games. They don't care who buys them.

BehindTheRows270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

I am also a Gen-X-er that saw the writing on the wall after the 360. Besides, you VERY MUCH gave a crap about Microsoft and definitely had loyalty to them. Your posts don't just disappear because you grew up a little. Can't hide those stripes.

At the same time, Microsoft's most ardent fans are part of the problem. When you demand less, you get less. Nintendo and Sony fans are much more willing to call shortcomings what they are and that is a very big reasons why those two brands bounced back after their darkest hours.

darthv72270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

@Jack... well their leadership changes does make me a bit apprehensive about supporting their future endeavors... but i likely will anyways as i am somewhat of a hardware guy. i may not buy their games, but rather continue to play them in gamepass for that low monthly rate. i do that now anyways, if its a game i want to own physically i get it on switch or ps. As for what xb fans get out of this... business as usual. it isnt like the games they announce will not be coming to their platform. unless of course they pull a Sega and completely exit the market. But for them they can still look forward to Indy and Avowed... them being released elsewhere does not take anything away from them being played by those who only have an XB.

@Rows... Im not going to hide my stripes (as you call them) but dont mistake speaking out against one sided arguments with a sense of rationale as loyalty. Im just trying to bring a sense of open mindedness to the table because too many are so closed minded to the possibility they may actually enjoy playing the field in this hobby. Now there isnt as much need to do that because of recent events, but I will still speak for the underdog who says they like something and gets ganged up on by mob mentality by those who dont, or dont even want to give it a fair shake.

As a libra, I try to find that middle ground in everything i do, including games. But im also not the kind to hold a grudge over stupid corporate decisions. There are plenty of others who do.

Hotpot270d ago

Pfft, you’re the one who is too soft for letting corporates dictate what they feed you. If you’re real though you’d protest when an ass company steered the industry you love to anti-consumer practices.

It ironically helped rabid fans like you and Obscure when other sane people protesting and MS took back desicisions like say, alway online requirements, drm for physical discs, and mandatory kinect purchases. Don’t give a crap my ass, get off your high horses.

andydalum269d ago

It's such a weird concept to me because without one the other wouldn't be as good. Look at madden for example for what happens when no decent competition exists. I was almost always xbox mainly because most my friends played on it and I liked the controller. Now I play PC because that's where most of my friends play. To me gaming should be about fun not who can rage online about who's brand is better.

Look at all the downvotes for simply saying you don't care about sony or microsoft as far as brand loyalty goes. These pages seem to almost always be super sony bias.

OlderGamer17269d ago (Edited 269d ago )

O please your brand loyalty was(and still is)cleary lying by Xbox and MS. You can pull up smoke and mirrors all you want,. I invite everybody have to look at your posting history Darthv 72. But keep imposting that you are "neutral". Your not.

As long as they are not live services, then nothing will happen to your digital games when Microsoft stops making consoles, the only games you need to worry about are the online only games, if the game plays offline, then that means you own them, and can't be taken away

"Now they lose faith?"

Not really. I love my SX just like I love the franchises from Xbox first party studios and I´m already looking foward for their next gen console.

I don´t care if Xbox games will land on Playstation, the Switch, PC, Cloud, Mobile, TV, or the freaking Radio. I won´t wait for those, so I´m not leaving Xbox console gaming before Xbox consoles left me first.

OtterX270d ago

We know you do, Obscure. We know you do.

JackBNimble270d ago

There won't be an xbox console soon with this market strategy

0hMyGandhi270d ago (Edited 270d ago )

" before Xbox consoles left me first. "
It's not going to be long before Microsoft turns into a (slightly) more competent Sega as goes full publisher mode.
But right now, they seem hellbent on replicating all of Embracer's mistakes.

I was a massive xbox fanboy back in the day (the first xbox with experiencing xbox live the first time was one of the coolest things ever, all on my finicky Linksys WRT54G router) and X360 had a wonderful dashboard, cross game chat, among so many other neat things, and I loved not just the AAA games, but the Indie scene there as well. We had Braid, Limbo, Super Meat Boy, and as a programmer, I loved the idea of putting your own game on the marketplace for a hundred bucks using their XNA C# dev kits.

...But Xbox is not what it was. It just isn't. And it hasn't been in a very long time. It's not to say that they can't turn things around, but even when they have all the potential to dominate through the sheer size of their catalogue, it's just not happening. I haven't purchased a console in two console generations after having switched to PC, but here's to hoping for a brighter future for MS.

The comment about Microsoft being 'A slightly more competent Sega' is pretty hilarious seeing as MS is worth 3 trillion dollars and Sega is only worth 3.4 billion.

I'm pretty sure you don't know how Microsoft works and how little XBOX matters to them, they could kill that division tomorrow and would be just fine.

Pointing out underwhelming games is inevitable. It's the broken promises and wish washy, intent with Xbox all through the Xbox One era. Xbox wants the big AAA games but waited late to buy studios. They wanted good E3's again but had no content to show. They want to up there software sells. Gave up on securing 3rd party and not having 1st party to show.

It comes down to not having 1st party stuff early on. They should of bought studios back during the late 360 gen but that was not in the cards at all. They had to up console engagement and sales so they made GP. If they bought studios made undeniable AAA first party and sell it and their console they wouldn't be in the mess. It's too late now they made a simple equation into a hard one for NO reason. Sure those changes and pivots would happen eventually but that wouldn't of been until later because they would be selling consoles and games still. If they kept it simple from the start.

ChasterMies270d ago

I lost faith during the Xbox One presentation in May 2013.

Chocoburger270d ago

That was the moment they never recovered from. And based on the past 11 years of their actions, never will.

thelwebb100270d ago

Lets not forget how bad Xbox screwed up with Halo Infinite, that was their biggest misstep imo!

Rynxie270d ago

I'm worried about obscure. Someone should do wellness checks on him. Poor fellow might unalive himself.

kayoss270d ago

nah, he wont go until Xbox goes. They go hand in hand. But i wont be surprised if i read a post from him regarding this. He will defend Xbox to his very last breath.

1Victor270d ago

Guys what you don’t understand is that Microsoft money allows them to purchase the first 9999 PR strikes so they’re good for the next 10 years of PR blunders.

Exthun270d ago

You forgot after the ring of death!

anast270d ago

Crackdown was embarrassing for them.

victorMaje270d ago

Easier to fool someone than to convince them they’ve been fooled. Some will keep defending MS…

DarXyde269d ago

You'll notice though that the games coming to other platforms are from the recent publisher purchases—games that were always supposed to be multiplatform when you think about it, with Sea of Thieves being the exception.

Do I think they'll go full third party? Yes, eventually. But as long as games in their "Big 3" aren't multiplatform beyond the PC/Xbox ecosystems, losing faith seems a bit much. Those are essential to the Xbox identity, and have been for ages.

However, it's a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy, isn't it? The Xbox fans losing faith and not purchasing the hardware contracts the user base, which actually give Microsoft more incentive to make more of their titles multiplatform.

Don't know how all of this shakes out. None of us do and we're all speculating, but I guess I would say the most certain sign would be one of those identity titles landing on the other console(s).

Phil looks like a washed up old frat boy who hasn't realized he's nearly 60 years old now. Nobody's coming to your parties anymore, bro.

PapaBop269d ago

A little harsh, a lot of effort probably went into finding a picture of him which doesn't make him look like a snake oil salesman.

LOGICWINS270d ago

Losing faith? Because other people get access to the same toys that you do?

/facepalm

mandf270d ago

We all know there are good toys and then there dollar tree toys. Not the same in any way. Xbox console is lacking and it doesn’t need to be explained by now

mandf270d ago

Logicwins

Gamers are always complaining about how expensive games are. 80percent of Xbox’s sold are the s. The multiple console owner argument doesn’t apply to Xbox. The sales numbers say so. Name one exclusive Xbox only not pc or gamepass game that sold over 10mil. You have to go back a decade for that. Xbox hardcore fans are a small number. There are no compelling reason to buy an Xbox the numbers tell us that. Nothing about Xbox differentiates itself from other consoles. It’s called a dead stick and it’s crashing.

JEECE270d ago

I mean, it's actually not difficult to understand. When people chose between Xbox Series X and PS5 when they were buying a console in 2020-2023, it was with the understanding that there were pros and cons to each, and that in choosing one they knew they would be missing some games only available on the other, but that they would get the advantage of having access to other games not available on the other console. When they chose to spend $500 on the Xbox on that understanding, and then MS starts announcing that, actually, those games you thought you could only get on here are going to be available on PS5, the obvious conclusion is that you should have bought a PS5, because then you could have played the games only available on PS5 AND the games MS brings over.

This really isn't rocket science. It's the kind of decision making that console buyers have been engaging in for decades.

LOGICWINS270d ago

These "decisions" only come into play for people who can't afford to own both platforms simultaneously. Doesn't apply to me.

JEECE270d ago

@LOGICWINS

That's fine. I mean, it doesn't apply to me either, because I have a PC. But I had to make those types of decisions when I was younger and didn't have as much disposable income. Plus even if I hadn't, a pretty standard skill in life is being able to understand why people who are situated differently than you are make the decisions they do.

By your "logic," which in fact does not win, someone who lives in a region that is warm all year wouldn't be able to understand why winter coats exist. But of course, they can, because everyone else is able to understand that other people face different situations than they do personally.

RauLeCreuset270d ago

"These 'decisions' only come into play for people who can't afford to own both platforms simultaneously."

Who told you that lie, or is this some weird attempt at a flex?

thelwebb100270d ago

It's actually more simpler than that. Xbox doesn't even make great games that I wanna play on PS5 in the first place. Forza Horizon is the only series I care about and even Forza Horizon 4 is better than 5.

Without exclusives it'll be even more painfully obvious that Xbox's main competitor can play a lot more games than Xbox . With more bells and whistles, and soon at higher frame rates and resolution if the rumors are true. Xbox's only positive product differentiator is GamePass which has ballooned to $240/year. A Walmart proposition with Macy's pricing.
I don't know about "faith", but I'm guessing the downward spiral will accelerate at this point. I guess I have faith in that...

anast270d ago

spot on. It's looking like MS Xbox is going to have some kind of streaming box hybrid or go all streaming and 3rd party in the next few gens.

They should have lost faith in Phil 10 years ago when he was closing all their studios and canceling all their games saying things like xbox shouldn't compete with the third parties, we're just going to focus on our big franchises (halo, gears and forze only) and single player games aren't relevant.

And we know from Obscures and the others instant 180 (or is it a 360) on the issues that xbox fans are going to support Phil no matter what, heck just yesterday I saw one of them blaming Don Mattrick again.

I mean, they´ll be releasing a new console in a few weeks.
