Black Myth: Wukong Review - IGN

A great action game with fantastic combat, exciting bosses, tantalizing secrets, and a few too many bugs.

Goodguy01258d ago

Sweet. Can't wait for launch.

Eonjay258d ago

Everyone knew this game was gonna get docked 2 points so this is probably in contention for Game of the Year.

RpgSama258d ago

They did not want to follow "recommendations" from Sweet Baby Inc.

lucian229258d ago

no "inclusion/ modern day/ lefty/ western diversity politics

RedDevils257d ago

No Sweet Baby Inc. already made it an instant buy.

RaidenBlack258d ago

yep ... I already mentioned the same in the launch trailer story from 1 week ago
https://n4g.com/news/261501...

Hotpot258d ago

even the review from screenrant outright saying they docked points because of it's "lack of inclusivity"...

dude there are sentient monkeys, bears, pigs, spiders.. many kind of species have representation in there. If you ask me this game is the most diverse game this year by a long shot.

Profchaos258d ago

It's a game from a Chinese studio about Chinese mythology it just boggles the mind how they thought there should be inst that exactly what they want under represented cultures telling their stories in the industry it's what they got and apparently it just want the right culture

DivineHand125258d ago

The reviewer went out of his way to let you know the game is extremely buggy and you all want to say it lost points for woke nonsense.

UltimateOwnage258d ago

I suspect any launch bugs will be patched quickly. I factor that in launch reviews. If this got an 8 with bugs, then I’m excited.

H9257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

Oh yes because IGN Definitely takes point away for bugs, remember cyberpunk

Edit: btw body what on earth do you mean out of his way, saying if there's bugs in a game he is reviewing is literally his job

Obscure_Observer258d ago

@Eonjay

"Everyone knew this game was gonna get docked 2 points so this is probably in contention for Game of the Year."

Game is full of gaming breaking bugs, crashes, invisible walls, performance issues, dubbing issues at the top of poor/engaging storytelling.

But hey, lets blame everyone else but the developers themselves.

Cockney258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

ign gave cyberpunk a 9 at launch bugs and all, not saying they are comparable in any way, just that the price of bugs seems to have gone up, its now 2 docked points

258d ago
kayoss258d ago

@obscured observer, you mistaken this for starfield.

Sciurus_vulgaris258d ago

@lucian

The main character is a human-sized rhesus macaque who lives in fantasy world based on Chinese myth. I’m non-white, and I wouldn’t expect a game with such a setting to be diverse in terms of human ethnicities.

Charlieboy333258d ago

I'm pretty sure Sweet Baby Stink wanted to cram some present day diversity in there nonetheless. Obviously a bad and stupid idea which is why they were rejected.

Silly Mammo258d ago

@Charlieboy

You're trying too hard. Do you check under your bed every night to make sure the Woke monster isn't hiding there?

Charlieboy333258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

@ Mammo. Ok smartass. Firstly, this is a game about Chinese fables and other eastern mythology with MYTHOLOGICAL CREATURES. Secondly, what does Sweet Baby Inc do? What is their goal with game studios!? That's right......to inject gay, trans and non-white characters into everything possible in the name of so called diversity, end of story. Now I ask you genius.....HOW THE FUCK WOULD ANY OF THAT FIT INTO THIS CHINESE FOLKLORE GAME? It is a fact that the developers were approached by SBI to 'help' them alter the game more to SBI's liking and it is also a fact that they were turned down. Now which one of these facts is confusing to you or makes my comment sound tryhard? Are you just an idiot or what?

Silly Mammo258d ago

@Charlie
So did they add any of that into the game? No? Then all your wailing and gnashing of teeth is moot. Making up scenarios in your mind to be outraged about isn't healthy. Hence my comment about looking for the boogeyman around every corner.

Charlieboy333258d ago (Edited 258d ago )

@Mammo Oh my god. Did you miss the part where I was literally replying to Sciurus who said "I wouldn’t expect a game with such a setting to be diverse in terms of human ethnicities". I then simply mentioned that SBI tried their best to interfere with that logic and common sense which would have been a bad idea, but luckily they didn't get to change it. It's not like I just made a post going 'Ngyaaaah Sweet Baby Inc Grrrrrr Ngaaaa slobber drool' !

"Everyone knew this game was gonna get docked 2 points"
So you are saying that Black Myth Wukong is equally as good as Elden Ring? Any other 10/10 games you think Black Myth Wukong is equal with?

Also, did the reviewers that gave Black Myth Wukong 10/10 not get the message that the game was supposed to be docked 2 points?

Chard258d ago

Culture war gamers are so embarrassing

Redemption-64257d ago (Edited 257d ago )

Only people who live in a bubble of ignorance think that. There are many people who have reported bugs and glitches. The devs are also made sure there are no PS5 reviews. Which should be a huge red flag. If a Western dev had done this, you people would be asking for their heads, yet when reviewer take off points for bugs and glitches for this games, some people cook up stupid narratives.

"it’s a story that I’m sure won’t go away any time soon"
It might if you'd let it

danno_omen33d ago

We don’t control who suddenly decides to bring it up in interviews lol

lukasmain33d ago

It's pure speculation on behalf of the author of this opinion piece and it hold no weight at all.

InUrFoxHole32d ago

@lukasmain
Im curious how you can make that comment when he specifically mentions Blackmyth? No weight at all? Either...
A. You can't read
B. You're letting blind loyalty take point
C. You just didn't read it
D. You're trolling

pwnmaster300033d ago

There really wasn’t no suggestion.
Just pure speculation as usual.

Lightning7732d ago

It's in the interview. He said it.

lukasmain32d ago

He never suggested a special exclusivity deal. Far from it. The author is just speculating.

Lightning7732d ago (Edited 32d ago )

@Main I quoted Rosenberg at the bottom he said it himself on the interview that him and guys go out and find hidden gems. This interview wouldn't mean much but Black Myth was supposed to release simultaneously along with the Xbox version unfortunately, it didn't. Got taken off and GS said it was the S. MS said there was a deal in place. If he's going out and finding niche or "hidden gems" BMW should of released only on PS5 since its considered a hidden gem that could only be played on PS console just like the rest of the other games he mentioned. The game was announced awhile ago as a multiplat. The S of late has been holding its own with third party and 1st party games. It's also clear that the S did have issues for awhile also and maybe GS really can't optimize for the console. I'm just exploring every possibility.

Hmm, I dunno at the end of the day. The S has been performing well optimization wise lately. I dunno it's hard to tell anymore what's, what.

-Foxtrot33d ago (Edited 33d ago )

There is no way in high hell Sony would pay money for this, something so successful and not advertise it as an exclusive console game. There's just no way, they've done it for everything else, why would they not do it for this.

It's people who can't let a story go, there's no deal, they just probably supported a new Chinese studio with their China Hero Project and give them tools to help develop on their console. If Microsoft came along and offered them the same tools early on for their console I'm sure Sony wouldn't bat an eyelid.

Sony took a chance on a new studio early on and they benefitted from it, that's their reward.

And we would’ve getaway with it if it wasn’t for those pesky kids games.
Congrats to NT on their 11 nominations I wish them good luck 👍👍

Beautiful game, love the series, and the character!

Well crafter and well done.

Toecutter0057d ago

Good. The game is unique, heartfelt, and beautiful. Yes, the mechanics are rather simplistic. But the teams dedication to storytelling is on full display. It's definitely not for everyone, but it won't disappoint those who appreciate video games that push the boundaries of the medium.

Alos8857d ago

More like pushes the boundary of how short a game can be while still charging fifty quid

InUrFoxHole57d ago

Love the game. Beautiful looking, game play was solid and it didn't over stay it's welcome.

PrinceOfAnger57d ago

Good game with the best graphics and animation I've seen this gen. They need to focus more on the gameplay though if there is HB3.
