WhatTheyPlay Review: Neighborhood Games

Neighborhood Games is another party style collection of motion based, minigames for the Nintendo Wii. This experience is quite similar in terms of overall feel to games like EA Playground, Celebrity Sports Showdown, Wii Sports and even My Sims to a certain extent.

The story mode found in this game in pretty straightforward: you are the new kid in the neighborhood and you have to traverse unexplored city streets, challenging the local kid "masters" at their own games as you make your way around the neighborhood. The various games you'll find played throughout this virtual neighborhood are quite diverse and there are quite a large number of them. The game includes a number different variations of lawn darts, several flavors of horseshoes, a variety of bocce games (a form of bowls) with different rule sets, some basketball games that include horse, and some target-based games. There are also football-based games, a baseball style game that has players hitting balls at different targets, there are some radio controlled vehicle races that include both trucks and planes, several variations of mini golf, tennis, and a capture the flag style game that's played with water pistols.

Its poor controls can make a saint want to utter some nasty words, but when they're working correctly this is a fun little Wii Sports wannabe to share with the family."

AL.com Review: Neighborhood Games

AL.com:
As if children these days didn't have enough motivation to play outdoor games, THQ puts yet another nail in that coffin. Now, all the games of youth long-forgotten -- lawn darts, slingshots and boccie (if anyone ever actually played that) -- are available in front of your screen with Neighborhood Games. There's no need to rummage the attic for that set of horseshoes. It's all in the Wii now.

Editorial: Bemoaning Wii Sports Clones

THQ's Neighborhood Games isn't one of those games that's bad because nobody involved really cared about what they were doing. THQ's PR department sent it to me twice, they wanted it covered so bad. Still, the game is pretty deeply and fundamentally flawed.
