Bungie Devs React To More Mass Layoffs: ‘My Whole Team Is Gone'

Bungie’s CEO locked his account just as the layoffs were announced this morning.

Knightofelemia329d ago

Well the flak is called for this guy is buying expensive cars because he got a big bonus. And he is playing the sob poor me card because he is laying people off. Most companies do that no matter who it is the sad part with most companies they don't care to know the common folk who keep the place running. This guy might know the names and hobbies of the people he worked with. But at the end of the day he will hang a person out to dry because he got a bonus.

-Foxtrot328d ago

Well you got to remember

https://www.ign.com/article...

“where a department head was asked if leadership taking salary cuts to prevent layoffs had been considered, only to respond that Bungie was “not that type of company.”

He forgot to add

“I need them for my 25 expensive cars”

Knightofelemia327d ago (Edited 327d ago )

No CEO or higher up is going to take a pay cut to keep the common folk from being laid off. And if that CEO or higher up did exist it would be a very, very, very, rare find. At the end of the day they are in it for the money and they don't care who they hang out to dry. Most of the CEO's and higher ups don't even care to know the common folk. All they see the employee as is just a number and a warm body occupying chair and computer that is replaceable or I can lay off to collect my bonus. And yes the CEO/ higher up is telling a BS lie to cover his ass and make it look like he is putting the employees and the company first. By saying we are not that type of company. As soon as he gets that bonus he will be singing a different tune. And his tune is using his big bonus buying up a bunch of cars he will most likely not drive or only drive for a few hours then park it back in the garage. Each car he buys is the sacrifice, long hours, blood sweat and tears the employee puts in to get that game out or DLC out. Taking a pay cut to keep the employees from being laid off would be nice but at the end of the day the bonus says a different thing. I feel sorry for those who got laid off and this is how companies lose great talent.

Wow. I read that article after you posted it, just wow. "Not that type of company", 🖕 off Bungie execs.

Jin_Sakai328d ago

How Bungie had 1,200 employees working on one live service game that’s barely relevant nowadays is beyond me. I feel for those who lost their jobs but they’re trimming the fat. As for the CEO, he also needs to go!

Notellin328d ago

They had 1,350 employees on Jan 21st of this year and that didn't include contractors or Sony employees that they confirmed with Forbes.

They had over 1500 when this layoff occurred which was also confirmed by Bungie. Your 1200 number is misleading and just an outright false statement.

If Sony taking over, will the ceo be axed?

Charlie2688327d ago

Getting rid of the CEO it's going to be a difficult and insanely expensive task, he, as the original CEO very likely has a ton of safeguards and absurd monetary compensations to avoid him getting axed in a situation like this, his power and responsibilities could be cut or reduced realistically.

Gameseeker_Frampt328d ago

To think that after firing over 300 employees Bungie still has around 850 employees working on just 1 new game and a game from 2017 that they barely support (The Final Shape is $50 and only has 1 new strike in it). Microsoft and Activision were smart in parting ways with Bungie and now Sony is stuck with this mess of a studio. Hopefully once Sony fully takes over they clean house and get rid of Parsons and the rest of the incompetent management.

“Bungie’s CEO locked his account just as the layoffs were announced this morning.”

Bungie’s CEO should have been the first one out the door.

mastershredder328d ago

It's really all about the corporate per diem and how you blow it. It is the governance at Bungie that has some serious cluster f going on. Way to Blizzard guys.

Demetrius327d ago

I'm sure people enjoyed going to work, brainstorming creative ideas for a future game concept. Higher ups will never give a damn about us no matter what kinda job/career it is. The handshakes me fake, eye contact with smiles are forced smh. Another reason why I don't like talking to corporate mfs they're irritatin af like politicians

Sony Faces Class Action in the Netherlands Over Allegedly Inflated PlayStation Store Prices

Mass Damage & Consumer Foundation in the Netherlands has filed a class action against Sony for inflating PlayStation Store prices.

dveio1d 5h ago (Edited 1d 5h ago )

My personal opinion:

Manufacturers and publishers have indeed inflated the industry.

From $700 million development costs for games like Call of Duty, to digital (store) prices for games and DLCs, online multiplayer fees on consoles (why can you play Helldivers 2 online for free on PC but not consoles?) or still preventing sell/lend digitally purchased games.

Sometime in the future, this bubble will collapse.

They should know better, but they just can't help themselves and suck even the last penny out of our wallets.

BeHunted1d 2h ago

Because Sony knows people will be forced to pay those prices for single player and multiplayer games, not everyone prefers PC gaming. Sony also has a monopoly on PlayStation digital games. In 2019, they stopped allowing retailers and game key sellers to sell PlayStation digital games, making them available only through the official PlayStation Store

anast1d 4h ago

The Dutch gov. wants a piece of the pie.

Eonjay1d 4h ago

They should be suing the individual publishers increasing the prices to $80 instead of suing the store. There are plenty of publishers still selling game for like $50 with much success (like E33). But this proves that the publishers are the ones setting the prices.... so again nothing changes because they aren't even going after the main offender. How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD? Sony being the number one store in the market doesn't mean that publisher have to charge us an arm and a leg. Again the industry is laughing at us because consumers never get real representation. Just these fake platitudes that are meaningless.

BeHunted1d 2h ago

"How is suing Sony going to make Microsoft not charge $80 for the next COD"

Because Microsoft doesn't have a monopoly, I can purchase Call of Duty at a huge discount from CDKeys or other gaming retailers. The only way to purchase digital PlayStation games is through the PlayStation Store.

djl34851d 1h ago

Weird, I swore GoW, Stellar Blade, Horizon Zero Dawn, TLoU, etc. were on the steam store....uh.....

BeHunted22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

@djI3485

I'm talking about PlayStation games that you can only purchase on PlayStation. I can purchase Steam and Epic games from 3rd party retailers and key stores.

About time. There is zero fair reason why digitally distributed products that you cannot recoup any value when you want to dispose of them, should be priced higher than that of physical copies that entail all of the costs and the benefits of owning.

Cancelled Batman Game Featuring Damian Wayne Character Designs Surface

"Project Sabbath" was a cancelled Batman game by WB Games Montreal where Damien Wayne was set to take on the mantle of the Bat.

Terry_B3d ago

Its time Damian ...and his mother too & how his son came to be will be a big part in a background story of a Batman movie, series or game.

-Foxtrot2d ago

I'd have rather seen Terry than Damian especially to see what they could have done with Terry in the Arkhamverse

excaliburps1d 11h ago

No, WB doesn't want anything fun since suits want live service garbage for max revenue. LOL!

Shame. If we are getting any Batman games like these, it'll be years away.

LordStig23h ago

YES! make an Arkham game with Terry as Batman and call it Batman Beyond Arkham.

Green-Smurf1d 7h ago

Damian doesn't follow his dad's code. He kills

Babadook71d 6h ago

Not to be confused with Damon Wayans.

jznrpg1d 6h ago

I’m not a big superhero fan but I do enjoy the Batman and SpiderMan games. Too bad this one got cancelled. WB has been mostly shite live service.
