if only they released at this price, £329 at smyths toy shop, they would have sold millions, this is the price please want to pay, no one has £549 no kid can save up £549, only the very wealthy with disposable income, at £329 it could be an xmas present for 2 siblings to share, or parents pay half / child pays half with a Saturday job / paper round etc.

Babadook7281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

Yeah. But that same thing can be said for new consoles. When the price comes down parents and teens can buy it. Manufacturing a larger amount also brings the price down over time.

Hopefully this price shows up worldwide soon. It's a good sign.

MajorLazer281d ago

Also there's just no games. If they had sold at the cheaper price, maybe they'd have been inclined to make some games for the thing.

Babadook7281d ago

There are hundreds of games. Many great ones.

I own over 2 dozen games myself.

S2Killinit281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

There are tons of games. AND they are some of the best gaming you can have. And I mean the BEST.

MajorLazer281d ago

I say this as a PS fan and someone who owned a PSVR1. There's not been a regular release schedule of system-selling PSVR games. Sony have pretty much abandoned it, ala PS Vita.

S2Killinit281d ago

I have to disagree. But, if you are expecting releases like a full console would get, then no.

For £329, even with the limitations of PC integration, it would still be worth it as a standalone PC VR headset. However, I don't see Sony offering it globally unless they are discontinuing the device and clearing out the current stock.

BeHunted282d ago

>it would still be worth it as a standalone PC VR headset

Imagine wasting money on PSVR 2 with limited features on PC? It's not worth it.

Vits282d ago

For £329, with the added benefit of being usable on a PS5 later on, it’s definitely worth it. It’s one of the cheapest options available, even less expensive than the Meta Quest 3 and only a couple of bucks more expensive than the aging and out-of-stock Meta Quest 2.

VincentVanBro281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

Agreed. On pc you lose HDR and eye tracking, two of the most important features in the headset. A meta quest 3 is far better at that price point.

fr0sty281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

Except that meta quest 3 lacks HDR and eye tracking too, and costs more, with fewer games, since psvr2 can play any games quest can.

purple101282d ago

can you use it just to play on a virtual 150'' screen like apple vr advertises.>?

that would be good.

may pick one up just for:

Arizona sunshine 2,
Beat Saber,
Creed boxing game
possible resident evil, but. - Im a scaredy cat! , played PSVR1 with some random horror game my friend brought over, years ago now.

yeh- I was absolutely crapping myself, + basically fell over, got a bit tired, so I to rest on a virtual table, yeh that didnt go well, it was in the game, no table was present in real life, it was that immersive - so I saw the potential.

I do also own a ps5 and GT7, so there's that.

MrNinosan281d ago

Yes, you can use PSVR2 to play any PS4/PS5 game flat on a very large screen

Letting retailers liquidate their stock.

It's dead.

Babadook7281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

LOL. Nice try.

It's sold decently. It's got a lot of software coming out too which Sony is advertising.

In fact this price drop is likely a good sign for the future of the device. Manufacturing prices just get lower over time and Sony is being ambitious.

Fishy Fingers281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

Admire the optimism but when a retailer is listing an item well below their original cost of goods and 30% cheaper than the manufacturers own site then its for once reason, a means clear their inventory. Its standard retail. In return Sony will either reduce their outstanding liability or offer them account credit to offset their loses.

Like you said, "it sold decently", past tense.

Babadook7281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

@above

Actually Sony is known to not talk about games that actually sold well. It happened with Days Gone for example. Sony has talked about how PSVR2 was outpacing PSVR, and other later leaks showed the same trend. Its averaging about 50% the Quest line and probably has cleared 2 million.

@fishy

Time will tell if your claims are correct. I very much doubt that this is a retailer decision. Amazon UK wouldn't do that.

"Sony regularly gives hardware updates - every earnings call "

@Teapot

Ok. Can you show me where Sony said PSVR2 is below expectations? This is your claim.

It’s dead mate, he’s not kidding.

"Ok. Can you show me where Sony said PSVR2 is below expectations? This is your claim."

https://www.theverge.com/20...

Bloomberg originally reported on the story but I placed a link to the verge because no subscription is required. PSVR2 was doing so bad that Sony halted production of the headset.

Babadook7281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

@above.

Fail.

This is not Sony. This is FUD, and Sony knocked it down.

@Babadook7

"Fail.

The article you mentioned refers to a separate Bloomberg report which alleged that Sony reduced its PSVR2 projections due to lackluster pre-order figures. Following the Bloomberg article, Sony's stock price suffered, prompting a swift response from the company to reassure stakeholders.

I have provided a link to the original article which contains the claim referred to in your link.

https://www.bloomberg.com/n...

It can also be noted that your article was published in January 2023, which is a month prior to the release of the PSVR2. Meanwhile, the article I referenced regarding Sony ceasing production of the PSVR2 was published in March 2024.

It's wise to step back and recognize that not everything Sony produces is successful.

Babadook7281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

@above

So you’re saying after Bloomberg had already been caught lying with FUD on the subject (as IDC later was also) we should believe them when they try again.

And again this is not what I asked for. This is not Sony.

Here’s a report that contradicts with the claim in Bloombergs second FUD piece. This shows a picture of market share that is far from bleak.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PS...

Babadook7281d ago (Edited 281d ago )

Also

Not only is Bloomberg looking fishy after their first claim of the same sort didn’t pan out, IDC, mentioned here as well, tried the same thing earlier too only to be corrected. They’ve been corrected many times with similar FUD claims of weak iPhone sales only to be corrected year after year. Also production lines being halted temporarily is not a sign of weak iPhone sales or PSVR2 sales. You’re literally falling for professional FUD creation here.

Bloomberg IDC claims categorically false

"Here’s a report that contradicts with the claim in Bloombergs second FUD piece. This shows a picture of market share that is far from bleak."

You are attempting to counter my Bloomberg article link with a Reddit post. Moreover, the market share chart confirms that PSVR2 is not performing as well as you believe. Like most tech products, it had a robust start due to early adopters. A closer look at Q4 2023 on your link reveals PSVR2 holding a 15% market share, while Meta stands at 72%.

Additionally, I discovered an article from a site dedicated to VR news, which indicates that during the holiday season on Amazon, VR headsets experienced a significant sales boost. However, Meta Quest outsold PSVR2 by a ratio of 30:1.

Clearing inventory... Sony hoped UK spend money on this.

For some reason people think VR is not a thing. As if we aren’t getting amazing games in VR.

Babadook79h ago

Yup. They don’t use one and assume therefore it’s dead. In reality it provides the very best experiences and is healthy despite being niche.
