Xbox gamers warned they've 72 hours before a ton of classic games are gone forever

The Xbox 360 Marketplace is officially shutting down in three days, which means dozens of exclusive, digital-only 360 games will no longer be available to purchase anywhere else once it does.

The Xbox 360 will be almost 20 years old next year, and to celebrate this milestone Microsoft have decided to obliterate all of its online functionality.

Phil Spencer: "Game preservation is critical to us at Team Xbox."

Technically, the games ARE preserved... they are just removing the ability to purchase new games through the 360. They have to keep a full backup of every title (even delisted ones) because they will have to offer the ability to redownload purchased content to users.

I had deleted some games a few years back that had become delisted. I was able to get them back by going through my download history. The games in question were TMNT (classic and re-shelled), afterburner climax and outrun online. Im glad I was able to get those back as they are some of the best on the service.

Lightning77321d ago

Well The Ultimate Alliance games have been delisted. I dunno how many old Activision games have been Delisted but MS needs to remake or remaster old Activision games and release them on Xbox and PS. I. Hope that's what they're doing right now.

They can't reserve everything but they 100% can reserve what they got or own.

just_looken320d ago

@darth

Yes this just like what sony did with the ps3/psp/vita there stores are off but so far you can still download old titles you own.

Unlike nintendo that only has the switch store active so you half to bend to there will

Man it would be nice if the ftc stopped riding xbox and went after other companies like nintendo.

XiNatsuDragnel320d ago

@just looken
You know ps3 and vita stores are still active not sure about psp store tho

After the Xbox 360, Phil Spencer came up with the bright idea of overpricing the Xbox One with Kinect, then with Xbox One X, hardly any games to date. Just use your Xbox One X to play Xbox One games he said. The black slab sits gathering dust. It should've come boxed with a feather duster.

Fortunately, the X360 was jailbroken a long time ago, so a good part of its library is available for download from 'alternative' sources. Still, it's a bummer to see the store going away.

just_looken320d ago

We need to get a law in place on every digital service to have a backup server for the world just keep are login in info so we can download what we own.

Be it movies/games or music one server everyone world wide can access so after they shutdown the main service we can always get our stuff heck we lost all the xbox og digital good's long tiem ago :(

Dawn of The First Day
-72 Hours Remain-

Also they can keep the store up for life if they wanted.

hiawa23321d ago (Edited 321d ago )

Series X for the back compat titles, and OG Xbox and X360 for those not on BC. I pretty much bought all of the digital games I want for the 360 so I am good.

ChasterMies320d ago

Do you have a backup Xbox 360 for when your Xbox 360 dies? The 3 core PowerPC makes emulation hard. There may never be good emulator.

hiawa23320d ago

Yes, I have two launch Xbox 360S day 1 consoles, and have not had any issues out of either of them. I also have two PS3S consoles also just in case one goes out in the future. I have all of the Xboxs so I am good. Thanks for chiming in.

anast321d ago

They are holding games hostage so people spend more money. This is some sleazy stuff.

Reaper22_321d ago

No, not telling you would be sleazy. I have a few more games to buy then I'm good. 360 was and still is a great console. Xbox is the best place to play!

anast321d ago

I'm not sure we are on the same page.

you guys will really defend xbox no matter what they do

XBLA Classic 'A World of Keflings' Is Coming to Steam, and There's a Demo

"Back in the innocent days of 2010, A World of Keflings was a fairly popular successor to A Kingdom for Keflings. I even wrote about it a few times in 2012! But the world of humans moved on, and NinjaBee's city-building/adventure game was last seen on the ill-fated Wii U in 2014. Fast-forward to the dark year of 2025, and not only is A World of Keflings coming to Steam, but there's already a playable demo! Perhaps the cheerful, no pressure gameplay that the Keflings bring is just what we need nowadays," says Co-Optimus.

It will come out in another 1000-2000 days or so. I’d rather they remake Morrowind. After they added quest arrows, sprint button, making stats lesser and the big nerfs to spells Elder Scrolls has been too simplified. They could change that with ES6 but I don’t have much faith in modern Bethesda. I would love to be wrong

Dear God it's been 4 years since infinite and no official update on anything lol.

Tacoboto3d ago

No official update on anything?

They replaced studio leadership
They changed the studio name
They announced the change to UE5
... all while supporting Infinite

The support to Infinite isn't what it originally should have been but they've still been providing tons of official updates over the years, and as recently as two months ago added a brand new weapon.

GamerRN2d ago

I think remaking Halo Combat Evolved, and going to 2 and 3 again, will help give the studio an idea of how to make a Halo game feel like Halo again

Tacoboto2d ago

Infinite did feel like Halo, that's not what the complaints were...

The complaints were almost literally everything else. Monetization, netcode and desync, the campaign structure, story, and single biome, the weaker-than-expected post-launch content.

InUrFoxHole2d ago

Gotta agree. Infinite felt like halo.

Profchaos3d ago

Dev times in modern days 4 years of silence isn't unheard of when things are running smoothly.

And around 6 months ago 343 did show a tech demo of ue5 using halo assets so it's not radio silence.

Given all the shake ups i am more surprised we're getting anything next year at all.

RaidenBlack3d ago (Edited 3d ago )

They coulda started with Halo 3 remake ... I know Halo CE remaster was not proper with the art style but still, remaking after a remaster seems dull, when Halo 3 and Reach have started to show some age.

PhillyDonJawn3d ago

Yeah I hate they used Halo reach artstyle. Hope this remake feel authentic yet fresh

--Onilink--3d ago

Probably the simplest to work around with. They are reportedly doing it in UE5, so its just as much an Anniversary thing, as its probably the studio getting familiar and setting up their tools and processes in the engine with an actual game, to facilitate the development of the next Halo

Profchaos3d ago

I'm guessing combat evolved has a smaller scope in general the later half of the game features a ton of backtracking and reused assets making it a easier game to remake on a deadline

Its also a better choice if this is the first game to be multiplatform mind you I think it's pretty much a given that anyone with a passing curiosity has played this by now in some way be it pc or brought a used console for a few bucks

darthv723d ago

This will likely come to PS5 at the same time. 25 years of XB.... shared with PS.

Obscure_Observer2d ago

It´s gonna be among best sellers on PS Store next year regardless.

raWfodog2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

I would love to see Lost Odyssey come over to PS5. I would definitely buy that again. That was the first game that I played on my 360. Loved the story and battle system. One of the best JRPGs of all time in my opinion.
