You on that copium bro. The game just isnt anything special. People arent even saying anything bad about it, if anything it seems like most just couldnt care less and are too busy enjoying other games.

Lightning77326d ago

People want Sony's LS plans to fail but don't realize this not only hurts devs but fans and players also. By canceling projects and reshuffling to make a SP games again will take ages.

Obviously not all the studios are only focused on LS. ND was doing both, now strictly SP. Sucker Punch is doing SP, Bend and Haven Studios are doing LS, apparently GG is also doing LS, but they could be doing both. Insomniac are doing SP.

I just wanna know Sony's Road map at this point.

-Foxtrot326d ago

“ By canceling projects and reshuffling to make a SP games again will take ages.”

That’s not something that hurts us though, it’s Sonys fault at the end of the day.

Yeah it sucks and it’s awful they hardly have any first party single player content but that’s on them. They are going to have to reshuffle things around regardless.

If it takes a rough patch for Sony to wake the f*** up then I’m fine with it.

Kyizen326d ago

That's like saying you want your Sports team to lose a few seasons so they can get a better draft pick and hopefully win. You should always root for a W on your team and if there on bumps on the road hopefully they will learn from it but you don't want a big L on a big project.

-Foxtrot326d ago

Sports and video games are completely different

People don’t learn unless it blows up in their face

Lightning77326d ago

How does that not hurt you? Unless you like more waiting.

-Foxtrot326d ago

I've just explained why

"If it takes a rough patch for Sony to wake the f*** up then I’m fine with it."

Meaning if it takes a generic looking live service hero shooter failing to make them rethink future GaaS plans then I'd rather it happen as soon as possible so they can pivot more and work on more single player games...or hell a hybrid like Uncharted 2 or Killzone where you have a great single play campaign and a classic, standard multiplayer mode like the old days which isn't about roadmaps, live service and battle passes.

I'd rather just rip the bandage off now and hopefully in time for when the PS6 rolls around.

ChronoJoe326d ago

The thing is that it isn't due to an absence of focus on singleplayer content for Sony. The studios that they historically focused on singleplayer games, are still focusing on singleplayer games. While Sony do have a live service initiative, most of these have been new studios and Sony still have an abundance of funding for singleplayer games.

More of the problem, is that these games now take twice as long to develop, and cost many times more than they did before. So even though Sucker Punch, Insomniac, Naughtydog, Guerilla, Santa Monica and Media Molecule are working on the types of experiences that PlayStation consumers are used to, they're coming out at about half the rate that they were just two generations ago. We're getting only one or two games from these studios, per generation.

And those spiralling dev costs are the problem.

Sony's live service efforts, by and large have not been at the expense of singleplayer content and if they find success in this space they could enable Sony to divest and take more risk elsewhere. It's the same for every publisher and platform holder today, games that generate on-going revenue provide considerably more stability. Look at Riot games for instance, because they have a stable base in League of Legends, they have spinoff RPGs, metroidvanias, action platformers, 2D fighting games, and those all exist because they have that ever green live service game.

just_looken326d ago

exactly fox

Cocord was a nothing bagel until sony purchased them after they played the game then the hype/budget went nuts.

This new sony sense 2019 its all into the esg/dei/censorship/live service crap while also killing there pc sales with forced account creation.

Concord is the first game that requires a psn account to play there is no opt out button but 0 pushback from that which is the big issue as at anytime they can charge vita psplus for mp access.

I mean, can you blame them when the recent GAAS announcements have been trend chasers in a market that is already oversaturated with them

That's not to say they can't succeed, but if every gamer out there had to worry about someone losing their job over something and not talking with their wallet when they don't want something, we would be completely fucked with the amount of things devs will try and push on us . Not like that isn't happening with other big games, look at call of duty and the price of some of those skins.

I don't think people are really wanting Sony GAAS to fail, I think it's more the sleight of games they've shown are just so uninteresting and generic it's hard to want to support those specific titles, especially when they got a classic catalog of GAAS that many would prefer to just be revived, instead of just trend chasers.

People are looking at something that is actually unique, an experience that only PlayStation can deliver on, which is why so many like their SP games.

They used to have that for multiplayer games. Helldivers isn't first party outside of owning the IP, but that there is a great example of building an experience so different than what's out there, while being good at the same time.

porkChop326d ago

"How does that not hurt you? Unless you like more waiting."

It doesn't mean more waiting. If people aren't interested in the live service games they'll be waiting for SP games anyway. If Sony starts pivoting back to a SP focus now then people will get more of the games they want, but faster. It's actually less waiting in the end.

dripdrop30326d ago

If this were to come out back in 2020 then maybe it would have done better. But as it stands this game ether has to go F2P or be reworked entirely and hope it succeeds. It sucks because if this studio was given resources for a single player game it could have been much better.

Lightning77326d ago

I just wanna know how I'm wrong in my statement? Struck a nerve I guess. All Downvotes with no explanation. If these LS games don't pan out they literally have to reshuffle. That means, lay off and hire all the right ppl to make SP stuff(maybe even studio shut downs). Which is a process, a dirty process at that. A process that'll push back their pipeline/future projects of games by a big amount.

That's just a truth, don't know how else to put it.

There’s a Demand for Original Games (Just Not Live Service Slop)

The success of numerous original titles and the failure of several live service games demonstrate a strong demand for story-driven experiences.

Worlds most expensive coaster 🤣

badz14987d ago

what's so different between this and those useless NES cartridges or even supposedly "rare" pokemon cards? they are like NFT, just physical. Concord is an actual flop that has been pulled from stores, while Nintendo artificially limited their supply for artificial scarcity.

darthv7287d ago

ehh... I'll stick with the controller. I got enough coasters, they are called xbox games (snickers)

Not the biggest coaster collection from xbox this gen :P

TheEroica86d ago (Edited 86d ago )

Concord is the biggest flop of all time... Sony could've saved 5 years by standing over the toilet and flushing 400 million. Remember, Concord is so bad that you cannot even play it anymore. It's vapor. You can't even have a retro review on it or pretend like "maybe there are a few people at home enjoying it". Lol, it was so so bad that it's been obliterated along with piles and piles of money.

The good news is all that failure leads to more pc ports of sonys better games. Sony is a good 3rd party publisher. I'll give them that!

Sony's Recent Live Service Game Cancellations Is Reportedly Tied To Failure Of Concord

Sony Interactive Entertainment's recent cancellation of live service game projects is tied to the failure of Concord, based on a new report.

Good. Let it be a lesson.

I’m super curious about how they are going to go about Fairgame$. It’s a live service title which didn’t get a good reception with the announcement and it’s being made by a brand new studio they decided to buy straight away because of the live service title they were making. It’s super similar to Concord and Firewalk Studios.

Will they cancel it this far into development or release it with the high chance of it being another disappointment and making Sony the laughing stock.

JEECE150d ago

It feels like that one is far enough along that they are going to go ahead and just push it out.

RaidenBlack150d ago (Edited 150d ago )

The Horizon live-service game is on the ... err horizon as well it seems, don't think that's getting cancelled.
Honestly if one modern Sony live-service game that I wish wasn't cancelled, that'd be the "Spider-Man: The Great Web". The leaked trailer looked cool and imho, it had potential. The timing was just not on its side.
With Avengers and Gotham Knights fumbling and Suicide Squad also not garnering much positivity at the time, Sony pulled the plug.
And 2 other I can also consider as well would be Factions 2.0 and Twisted Metal. Any form of a new Twisted Metal game is still fine for me than nothing.
Hope after all this, Marathin delivers. Oh, it better, especially after they changed such an amazing IP's genre.
I am really curious to see what they can pull-off.

PapaBop150d ago (Edited 150d ago )

Marathon is Sony's only real hope I think on the live service front, any live service game released before then will be going out to Freddie Mercury singing "another one bites the dust". They have to hope Bungie have some magic left in them and deliver a product worthy of the name. Live service games and Sony fans are like square pegs in a round hole. They need to really knock it out of the park to justify them and remove the negative stigma surrounding live service games.

CrimsonWing69150d ago

Didn’t they literally announce recently that they’re committed to GaaS?

isarai150d ago

I really don't know how seriously I would take that Herman has always just come off as a yes man. But I say I don't know because I really don't know it could be one way or the other

neutralgamer1992150d ago

Sony's decision to cancel two more live-service games, one from Bluepoint Games and another from Bend Studio—neither of which have significant experience in live-service development—has raised serious concerns among fans. Many of us had been eagerly awaiting announcements about these studios' projects, believing they were nearing completion after years of development.

Now, it appears several first-party studios are being forced to start over, highlighting what feels like a pattern of mismanagement this generation. Sony's strategy seems to be floundering, leaving its first-party portfolio with a string of missteps.

This situation is eerily reminiscent of the "arrogant Sony" era leading up to the PS3's troubled launch. Unfortunately, unlike that time, there’s no strong competition from Xbox to compel Sony to course-correct and refocus on what made them successful in the first place.

FinalFantasyFanatic149d ago

Idk, I don't feel like they've learnt their lesson, in the case of Fairgame$, I suspect they'd release it if it's too far along to back out, at least try and make some money on it, if that's possible.

gold_drake150d ago

i still find it ridiculous that they had soo many, 12, in the pipeline. if they had like 3, sure, but 12 is a huge number for potential failure.

Alos88150d ago

They were throwing stuff against the wall and praying something stuck... considering how poorly thought out the whole thing was they should be grateful they even got one win with Helldivers.

PapaBop150d ago

How the hell would that even work? Were they going to create 12 completely different games to try and cater to different audiences? Or would they expect some gamers to be juggling multiple ones and on top of whatever third party ones get created? I really hope someone high up at Sony has pressed the big red panic button because they're starting to look MS levels of incompetent.

attilayavuzer150d ago

Honestly I think the strategy was to have one of them be a huge success (billions in revenue) and have that pay for all the other games and devs they'd shut down from the failures. One Fortnite-level success would double the brand's profit, so it makes sense why they'd take a flier on it, even if the odds were terrible and in practice has so far been about worst case scenario.

FinalFantasyFanatic149d ago

I think they expected multiple failures, they only needed a few to succeed to rake in the big bucks. But there are already a lot of these games out there to the point of saturation, and trying to pull people away from other, popular GaaS games was going to be a big challenge.

MetroidFREAK21150d ago (Edited 150d ago )

They need to wake up. A God of War live service game... what a joke

Relientk77150d ago

A God of War live service game doesn't even make sense no matter how you spin it. What a dumb idea.

bartfart150d ago

Yeah anyone remember gow: ascension multiplayer? Me neither

raWfodog150d ago

I’m a huge God of War fan and this had me scratching my head like ‘huh?’ Stop trying to add GaaS to every IP. It just doesn’t work that way.

Goodguy01150d ago

Focus on quality singleplayer like you had with the ps4 and 3 that made you so well loved. 3rd party will do all the live servicing.

RaidenBlack150d ago (Edited 150d ago )

You need some multiplayer titles as well ... not unlike olden days ... but just not so many of 'em that you lose the quality over quantity.
And plus, experimental smaller projects to keep things interesting.

149d ago
SonyStyled149d ago

They closed all of their ‘small’ game studios though for the GAAS focus. They shot themselves in the foot. PixelOpus, Japan, London (Psygnosis) closed
