Don't Blame Microsoft For Final Fantasy XIII's Release Date

Following Yoichi Wada's announcement that Final Fantasy XIII would be released after April 2010 in North America and Europe, people started to point fingers. The first place those fingers pointed was of course Microsoft. Despite Square Enix saying that the Xbox 360 port won't slow down the release of Final Fantasy XIII, people don't necessarily believe this and Wada's comments have opened up a can of worms.

ok i blame both of you, MS and Square.

Genesis55997d ago

OK. And I blame MS and their cheque book.

butbutbuttehcell5997d ago

That's odd, doesn't that mean ur blaming something that didn't happen? If it did then u wanna show me how you know that? Seem more likely that since Square CLEARLY want to penetrate the Western market that 360 is the way to go, and since it's sold 28 million it makes a lot more sense than to just 19 million...but whatever.

Cwalat5997d ago

Lame article...

MS ofcourse had something to do with it, you'd be stupid to think otherwise.

What game takes 6 months to add other language on menu and subtitles?

MS and their messed up way of steeling games.
OFCOURSE SE won't release PS3 version, they are the biggest MS asslickers in the world...

Goes to show how infected our industry really is.
And now that it's inflation, ppl will do everything for few bucks.
Lame....

JokesOnYou5997d ago (Edited 5997d ago )

I say blame micro all you like, I doubt they care what a few fanboys on n4g think....lmfao, micro's only concern is to do what ever it takes to bring the best content to their platform, I personaly dont give a damm about FF, never did but again micro recognizes that it has a huge following made up of current 360 owners and of many potential 360 customers so why would they not look for any opportunity to bring it to their platform the same day & date with their competition? So what if ps3 owners have to wait? Thats NOT micro's concern, thats sony's job to make sure that opportunity does NOT EXIST for their biggest 3rd party exclusive to go to multiplatform.

Hell, I bet the same sony loyalists who are pissed about waiting for this game are the same ones that would have been screaming from the rooftops that its the best thing since slice bread and its ONLY on the ps3. I'm not saying "anything goes" in business, NO but theres nothing "evil" about this *assumed arrangement between micro & Square afterall Micro, Square, & Sony are in it for the money had sony not been so arrogant and *paid Square to keep it exclusive then we wouldn't be having this conversation.

Fox015997d ago (Edited 5997d ago )

No, blame the PS3 for failing hard -sales wise only- (coz it has Killzone 2, which just trumps everything else) and Sony for being so cheap.

Pizzagaki5997d ago

"What game takes 6 months to add other language on menu and subtitles? "

Final fantasy7, 8 , 9 , X, X-2, 11, 12 and now 13 too.
They all took 6 months or longer.

Fox015997d ago (Edited 5997d ago )

As a PS3 fanboy, this is what I read : Game, bla bla bla bla bla... Final Fantasy, bla bla bla bla.... 6 months longer, bla bla... Damn you Microsoft!!

EDIT : WTF JokesOnYou, they took all your bubbles away!? Damn you Sackboyz, damn you to hell.

Pretty much every Final Fantasy title ever released?

e.g.

Final Fantasy XII - JP Release March 2006
Final Fantasy XII - NA Release October 2006
Final Fantasy XII - EU Release February 2007

Almost 1 year between JP and EU, without Microsoft being involved.

Saigon5997d ago

Please dont say that...it has yet to be proven that that number is actually correct from MS...

I don't know why people forget but MS also did this at the end of year 1 for the 360. They said that they sold 10.5 million WW December 2006, which was later noted as false. These were the number of Items shipped. When MS reports its numbers, it reports the shipped numbers, think about it when an exclusive game comes out for MS...they always have the numbers the week of release, which is impossible to retreive unless they are ...shipped numbers...

Common Sense...

BOT...

This is MS and SE fault this game will not come out any time soon for EU and NA...

GrandTheftZamboni5997d ago

"had sony not been so arrogant and *paid Square to keep it exclusive"

So, Sony's bad for not bribing SE? Go get your head examined, moron.

Homicide5997d ago

I blame Sony for not listening to Square's criticism about the PS3 and it's advertisement. I'm glad FFXIII went multiplatform to teach Sony a lesson.

NegativeCreepWA5997d ago

Am I only one that realizes FF games always release 6 months to a year later in the states. Its the way its always been, get over it.

StayHigh5997d ago

Its going to be released on the PS3 first anyways in Japan..Ill wont have to wait a extra 1 year for it..Because of Microsoft..Do anyone really want to play Final Fantasy VIII on 4 disks..lol..

UltimateIdiot9115997d ago

Let's look at the 360 Last Remnant and Star Ocean 4. They are both worldwide release. Let's take a closer look, Last Remnant is time exclusive to 360 (which should have been held back to match the PS3 TBA date especially all the problems) and possibly SO4. Many of the handheld games from SE takes roughly 6 months. So, if SE can pump out console titles worldwide, handheld about 6 months, 360 getting time exclusive while FF (so far zero releases on PS3 while claiming to cater to all system, also claiming to cut down on localization time) can't make a WW release possibly the first title from SE to appear on PS3 and must be longer than 6 months. There is just way to many contradictions and hypocrisy in SE's words and actions for me to believe that MS is somehow not a huge variable to the long wait.

IdleLeeSiuLung5997d ago

Frankly, who gives a sh!t! I don't care who is at fault and if you want to put conjure up a conspiracy and blame MS, then perhaps you should blame Sony for the inability to be the dominant console. Perhaps then, SE wouldn't bother putting out the game on other platform or maybe it is just plain corporate greed.

The bottom line is, there is no point in blaming because it is easy to point fingers and nobody gives a sh!t!!!

cryymoar5997d ago (Edited 5997d ago )

Killzone 2 will make all developers that went multiplatform think:
"ohh f*ck, if we had just stuck to our guns and worked hard on the PS3, we could have created something technologically superior like Killzone 2, instead we're creating half-a$$ed products just for that quick buck, that won't improve the industry."

what's sad is that xbox fans are happy about that fact. "SALES OMG SALES!"

No Way5997d ago

You are forgetting voice overs and all that, too. There is quite a bit to redo. But, shouldn't be Six(6) months like you said.

prowiew5997d ago

If im not mistaken every final fantasy took 6+ months to be translated to USA and EU. Thats almost all rps. But maybe that was on the ps1 era. I dunno.

pixelsword5997d ago

...but it pointed to a pic. My Heuristic sensitivity is set to high, so it could be nothing, but just in case anyone else gets it, it wasn't just you.

Godmars2905997d ago

Pretty sure that Square took cash.

BattleAxe5997d ago

If the Japanese version is coming out in 2009, that means the PS3 version is almost finished. I think they should just release the PS3 version first, and then release the XBOX 360 version whenever its finished.

Its not fair for the fans of the series, which have traditionally been Playstation users.

I'm glad that it's been delayed. Wouldn't want spoilers getting out because PS3 fanboys would inevitably do that, just like they tried for Gears. Instead, they'll come out at the same time so that won't happen. Thanks Microsoft for securing such a sweet game and preventing me needing to shell out on a PS3.

Lumbo5997d ago

Sorry to burst your fanboy bubble, but the PS3 version WILL release at least half a year in advance in Japan ... *rolleyes*

beavis4play5997d ago

he says he wouldn't be surprised to see both come out after 2010 so as to regain shareholders trust? how does dragging the release date out (of your highest profile game) years longer than it should have been gain trust/confidence?
and the author mentions FF13 coming out after april 2010 in NA/EU to balance profits from the FF13 release in japan this year? if this is the case, what will square do to "balance" the profits the year after their highest profile games are out the door? it's taken them 5 years to get the FF game released. are the shareholders to believe that FFvs will magically be ready in less than 12 months? and square has said in the past that the true sequel to KH won't start development until the FF games are done.....sooooooooo, what is squares plan after they finish their struggle to get the FF games out? this is what i, as a shareholder would want to know. (besides wanting to know why it's taken so long for them to release FF13 so i could SEE some profits.) there is much more to shareholder confidence than what the author suggests.

mephman5997d ago

Perhaps, but releasing Final Fantasy XIII, Final Fantasy Versus XIII and Final Fantasy Agito XIII all in the same year, in all territories would make increasing their profits the following year near impossible.

Staggering it out means that year on year growth in terms of profit is more achievable. Sure there are more aspects than just money, but giving share holders more a return year after year is a good way to keep them happy. If profits dip on the previous year, they start to reconsider their investment.

beavis4play5997d ago

but i wasn't suggesting they release the games in same year.
my point was that i think there should be cause for concern from shareholders as to how business is going. this company hasn't been the same since the merger. and squares development cycles are growing longer with every game. all i was saying is if i was a shareholder, i'd be concerned with how square is currently doing business.

Godmars2905997d ago

That make me want to buy stock in Square just so that can b*tch at them as a stockholder...

knightoftears5997d ago

MS and Squeenix are both to blame. Ms for making the late release stipulation so they can have the game, and Squeenix for taking the money and agreeing to it. Bastards...all of them!

GEESE5997d ago

Holy smokes that seems a long way away. :(

The 7 Best Final Fantasy Characters: Unveiling the Legends

While FFVII ranks highly, there's more to the series than one game. Here's Chit Hot's picks for the seven best Final Fantasy characters.

220°

The older it gets, the more I respect Final Fantasy XIII

Alex Donaldson: "Hindsight is a hell of a thing, however, and in the years since Final Fantasy XIII, my respect for the decisions its developers made has skyrocketed. In the two Final Fantasy titles since we see both the brilliance and the folly in alternative approaches - and in Final Fantasy VII Remake, we get a more nuanced understanding of what FF13 was trying to accomplish from many of the same development leads."

Einhander1972544d ago

FFXIII is actually one of the best Final Fantasy games.

I also sort of was disappointed at the time, never as much as the bandwagon. But really all the fantastic 3D rendered cutscenes and I actually liked the characters and the story though convoluted was actually fantastic and the ending was extremely emotional. So much budget and time were put into that game Square had such big plans, I actually have always felt kind of bad for how things played out.

I have been thinking for years how great it would be to get all three games on one disk for PS4 or 5.

Nyxus544d ago

I always liked this game, and I agree, a rerelease for current gen would be nice.

Shane Kim543d ago (Edited 543d ago )

Gotta take off the nostalgia glasses. It's the worst FF. Shiva as a bike, I mean come on.

Elda543d ago

Shiva as a bike is strange but saying FFXIII is the worst FF is not at all a fact, that's simply your opinion.

Terry_B542d ago

*One of the 3 equally bad FF's

DivineHand125543d ago (Edited 543d ago )

When I got my series X a year ago, I bought FF13 for nostalgia reasons but ended up being disappointed. When I first played it around the time it launched, I didn't have a lot of experience with final fantasy games, so I enjoyed it. Fast forward to when I played it again, I found that the game had many unnecessary filler moments instead of just giving us meaningful content.

The game is also very linear and a quote on the article said it best. "It is like a sewage pipe that leads to the ocean until it opens up on Grand Pulse."

The story didn't make much sense either and I believe it is my mistake as I played the FF7 remake on PS5 prior which is a night and day difference in terms of pacing, storytelling and likeable characters even though cloud is aloof.

FinalFantasyFanatic542d ago (Edited 542d ago )

Probably was a mistake to play any of the golden era FFs first (e.g. FF6 through FF10), it makes it harder to enjoy some of the FFs that aren't as good. I think FF12 was where major issues with the series started becoming apparent, and it just got worse from there.

FinalFantasyFanatic542d ago (Edited 542d ago )

I didn't really care for it that much, the only saving grace was that it had a better story than 15 (overall it was better than 15) and possibly 12, and even then, you had to read some of it through primers, like reading a book. Plus the battle system was reasonably fun for what it was, even if it was more the spectacle that was exciting for me (e.g. summoning). And to be fair, the 13 trilogy got better with every games, I still don't like Snow though.

Gamingsince1981542d ago

Ff13 is only good if you haven't played a ff before, or any other games that are decent for that matter.

-Foxtrot542d ago

It is in fact no way the best Final Fantasy game, it's one of the worst

Linear corridors, Cutscene, Fight, Cutscene...rinse and repeat

Dialogue and characters are pretty bad, especially Lightning as the main FF hero, they literally said they tried to make a "Female Cloud" and they failed.

Story was pretty awful

I could go on

I think the only alright thing that came from the game was the music.

Elda542d ago

That's not a fact that's your personal opinion. The game sold 11 million copies between its 2009 release up until 2014 including critically reviewed as an 8 out of 10 or an 80 out of 100. The game does have some issues but it's not at all a fact as one of the worst FF games.

-Foxtrot542d ago

i liked the game alot but i didnt like how they handled the terminology.

i dont mind reading data logs but it had soo many.

but i always loved the music and how it looked. the battle system wasnt too bad either.

but i like 13-2 more :)

i still dont understand why we never got a remaster of the trilogy

Eonjay542d ago

Xbox kinda did. Besides the video files of course which are still best on PS3 due to bluray.

Snookies12544d ago

XIII is a pretty solid game, but XIII-2 is WAY better. XIII-2 was one of the few games I decided to go for a Platinum trophy in, early on. Had so much fun the entire way through getting it too!

Eonjay542d ago

Totally agree. FF 13 was okay but 13-2 is my favorite FF game ever.

shinoff2183544d ago (Edited 544d ago )

I hated this to when it released. I haven't much liked a ff game since ff10 as much , aside from ff7remake. I decided to give it another shot on my series x since it's not on a current ps and was liking it quite a bit(just takes me some time to get over things ) until star ocean 2 remake came out I was all over that.

Square should definitely remaster it or something for ps4 ps5

KillerB543d ago

my favorite jrpg trilogy ever
