The game is looking good but there are some slowdowns in the frame-rate on this PS3 demo.

thereapersson5995d ago

I think you're confusing slowdown and framerate issues with the slow-motion effects in the game that are used intentionally.

The game actually appears to be running rather smoothly, especially considering how Godawfully bad the previous game's technical issues were. Still, I have a feeling that the 360 version will be the better of the two -- though it doesn't matter to me because I'm buying the PC version (I have the original on PC and it was a good game).

solidt125995d ago

I played the PS3 Demo twice last night and it ran as smooth as butter. Alot better than the original FEAR on the PS3. The Game is going to be great. The Enemies AI is very good and the Graphics are alot better. And it is fun to play.

Fox015995d ago

Since you've played the demo, which one do you think I should pick? FEAR 2 of Killzone 2 (never played Killzone 1 and I didn't play F.E.A.R 1 either)?

tompoulo5995d ago

I don't own a ps3 but from what i've seen Killzone 2 will be the ultimate AAA game of this period(maybe even the whole year), FEAR 1 was pure awesome, but it doesn't mean that FEAR 2 will be awesome too.(we haven't seen much about this game other than some small trailers and this demo gameplay). So i would advise you to get Killzone 2!!!

DA_SHREDDER5995d ago (Edited 5995d ago )

I played Fear 2 last night, and was really impressed. It sorta plays like COD but Fear 2 has better graphics, and the game is scary as hell. The ps3 doesn't support 1080p though, and I had to play it on 720p. Im also skeptical on how good the online is on the psn. Im gonna get it on the 360 because I could play it on 1080p and cause of xbox live. The ps3 version will be good at least though for you ps3 only guys. The game has metal gear solid 4 graphics,, its pretty impressive.

If you had to pick between the two, get Killzone2. But if your a gamer like me you would just get both,, plus SF4,, possibly ShellShocked. March you would get StormRise

solidt125995d ago (Edited 5995d ago )

Fox01 can't believe you asked that question. Look at my avatar. Personally i would buy both of them and I will. But if I had to choose I would be getting Killzone 2.

PAPERCHASER03965995d ago

WTF? You say that this game has better graphics than COD? The PS3 doesn't support 1080P? what are you talking about.... Sir you wrong in both cases even looking at game play during shoot outs in fear watch for bullet holes where are they? if you see them soon after they disappear and also blood. I know this is only a demo but we as Ps3 owners deserve only the best foot forward overall when it comes to games period and we expect the best all the time not just improvements.

Blademask5995d ago (Edited 5995d ago )

The textures detail is very reminiscent of Bioshock, and the sound design is just as amazing. Every thing you hit makes a different noise, and who the hell had time to sit and stare at the bullet holes? The lighting is very good, every light is a source that casts your shadow everywhere. The motion blur they have is very cod/unrealengine-y, but its still very smooth.

Slowdown in the demo? I didn't notice any thats worse than any other multiplat. And you do have a slowdown-mode.

Fear2's atmosphere is second to none, as the first one is. Its scary as hell, and its just a demo. The contrast in set design is amazing. The school/office/outeryard. They have totally redeemed their original set issues with a single demo, and im very happy that Monolith got a second chance. Unfortunately most of you weren't on top of FEARPC..

But it has a decent online community, the online for fear plays like nothing else really considering the first person hand to hand combat.

Demo is great, if people were smart they would be picking this one up. COD4/5 Are such underwhelming games both SP and MP, and graphically. You cant interact with anything in COD4/5 worlds, the lighting sucks, as do the textures, and the AI, the vehicles, and the gameplay. You've played COD4/5 before. You haven't played a game like Fear2, unless you play the first one. Fear2 is definitely a fresh experience, its going to be a great SP game, with good MP.

This is why as a gamer that thinks COD4/Halo/Gears is Sooo good, that you need to pickup Fear2:

1. Story/Atmosphere

Fear1/2 Plays out like a horror/action movie. Its never just a lose story around objectives. its Warner Brothers folks, they spent some time with this. The sound design around the game in surround is very creepy. It reminds me of Socom(sound)

2. Cover System

Fear2 allows players to knock over anything that they can, tables, vending machines, trashcans. All in first person, its as natural as just walking up and hitting a button, and crouching. No sticking to cover as some rigid system like Uncharted, KillSwitch, or Gears.

3. Graphics

Fear2's demo has honestly illustrated some lush very detailed graphics. The amount of detail is insane, not so much ... polygon level of just a TON of objects. But everything in the games world looks very realistic with individual textures. A book shelf has different books with different titles.. A projector has a name brand on it.. small details like this are overlooked by games that just throw a generic texture over everything, and call it a day. Realworld miscellaneous items are just strewn all over the sets, as you would find in life. Cups/papers/paintings/staplers mugs, telephones. Its just very very detailed, as soon as you guys get the demo, you will see exactly what I mean as far as the detail goes. Take a second, look around. Little Kids paintings in the classroom heh. And its all rendered with a very nice COD4-style Blur. Everything feels good.

4. Gameplay

Fear2 combines a slow-down max payne style function to aid you when the odds are tough, med kits are rationed out to you. The game is still your standard FPS, but the AI dynamic makes playing the game different every single play. Ai is very advanced, as was the AI of Fear1. More advanced than COD4/Halo/Gears. AI will listen for you, and look for you. If your flashlight is on, you get a MGS style "A flashlight!", if you knock over a glass, or knock over a trashcan "what was that? Go check it out!". Your health is low, you get a "Hes hurt, move up!" The Ai doesn't do your standard pop in and out of the same place, they go all around to take pot shots at you, and they will flank you IF they can. You can see them working in Rainbow6 style attack patterns to where one guy moves up, others stay behind. You literally can't just aim at the same place, knowing the AI will pop up there again.(If played on Hard). You panic in the game, and thats what Fear relies on, because during the combat with the soldiers you totally forget the horror part of the game until you are running down a hallway, and all the doors slam and someTHING throws a desk across the level. Oh yeah, and theres a Mech suit & the game has Multiplayer.

Fear2 is going to be like playing Killzone2 in a Haunted House :)

thereapersson5995d ago

What the hell are you talking about? Do you just pull this sh1t from your and try to pass it off as fact?

DA_SHREDDER5995d ago

Yo, im sorry I said it wrong. I meant to say that Fear 2 doesn't upscale to 1080p. Not that the ps3 doesn't upscale. Again sorry about that. I had my 1080p checked mark only, so that it wouldn't do 720p or 1080i. Just like motorstorm 2, it doesn't upscale past 720p. At first I was pissed cause the game looked ugly when I first played. It was because it was only in 480p. It goes to 480p at default if the ps3 only has 1080p checked and if the game doesn't support it. Im wasn't rambling anything. I just wasn't paying attention to what I typed. Again, sorry.

I didn´t play it but it seems another average FPS game for PS3.

solidt125995d ago

Not a average shooter. Shooter/Horror with some of the best AI I have seen so far and the Graphics are pretty. The gameplay is really good to once you get use to the controls.

Ghoul5995d ago

Fear is one of the best immersive shooters i have ever played.

and i played nearly every shooter that made it on the market (and some that didnt or got canceld)

Chubear5995d ago

To me, to whole series is very average for a shooter. The first one had ever mundane and bland gamplay and this one seems to be the same. The pacing of the game is just plain straight, almost rail like, shooting.

and yes, the demo on the PS3 has framerate issues. I've been gaming for longer than most here have been alive and I know the difference btw tapping the triangle button for slow down and framerate issues. Plus, I had numerous instances where the sound would cut out or go all wonky.

I'm not here trying to convince anyone who likes it not to like it or stopping anyone else from being interested in the game but rather stating my own view on it. I find it so crazy how the general gaming public will damn a different game for framerate issues cause editorial reviewers said so but see NO framerate issues for a game (demo) that has OBVIOUS framerate issues and worse framerate issues than the every game they damned for having it.

It's like people just pick and choose to dogg on whatever however but won't judge the other games they like by the same standards.

Ghoul5995d ago

"I've been gaming for longer than most here have been alive and I know the difference"

well me too over 20 years and counting but claiming that fear has bland gameplay proofes that you never played the game longer then 10 minutes.

Sorry, fear has very good balanced and innovative gameplay. gears of war is more of a railshooter then fear.

Marceles5995d ago (Edited 5995d ago )

Chubear you have no idea what you're talking about. If you've truly been gaming for over 20 years you wouldn't be looking into the framerate of a game, especially if you've grown up in the 8-bit era, and you would notice the difference between a unique and average shooter.

The framerate of the game shouldn't take anything away from you being able to enjoy the game. There's games with way more framerate problems. The framerate does drop down when alot of action and explosions occur, but there's plenty of games that do that. You act like it's a new problem in gaming, but you should be used to stuff like that by now.

FEAR is far from your average FPS. What FPS do you know brings you Japanese-like horror that messes with your mind? Here's a really good question because I bet you have some funny games to bring up...what game do you know has AI on par with FEAR? Put FEAR on Hard difficulty and you'll see some incredible AI, and even on normal the AI is great. The music, audio, and atmosphere is great as well, and it has a pretty good storyline for being an FPS. The graphics are great too...if you're comparing FEAR 2 to Killzone or Crysis then all of a sudden you've been become a spoiled graphics whore gamer...I shouldn't even put the term "gamer" in there. You're just a graphics whore. FEAR is a PC shooter at heart ported to consoles...maybe you hate PC gaming? I don't know..but it just sounds like you've never played FEAR, or you picked it up later when it came to a console and totally flopped it for whatever twisted reason you have.

I really want to know what FPS is great in your opinion if you think FEAR was a bad game. 20 years of gaming my ass...

I mostly agree with those except with Alan Wake, it wasnt scary at all.

But a great list overall.

UltraNova3523d ago

I've played all games on the list. Alan wakes was intense at certain moments not scary. Fatal Frame; I was quite young then it got me scared shit less(damn camera). The evil within was ok but Resident evil scared me more back in the day (maybe its because I got older, dont know).

As for PT? ok...I advice people NOT to use surround headsets whie playing this...Jesus... I could hear her moan behind me right on top of my ear at times and I could for the life of me turn around...mind f***

But my god does Alien Isolation raise my heart beat. When you're being chased by the xenomorph and you know you are totally defenseless against it can scare the bejesus out of you, things get worse when you realize that running for it when you encounter the beast makes things worse, yeah...

That said Silent hill 2 was scary as shit as well, especially when the Pyramid head chased you...

KurtRussell3523d ago

My first playthrough of Alan Wake was without HUD so the first couple hours was kinda kinda scary, occasionally being lost in the woods chased by possesed rednecks.
Alien Isolation was really intense and i'd say it's the scariest game overall i played. Sadly i haven't played PT since im PC only, but watched the first 15min online and it looks sick.
But the scariest moments for me were wandering at night in STALKER games, scarier than all the smeared guts on the walls and closet monsters of Evil Within and Dead Space. It has such an oppressive atmosphere that no game comes close, and that's whats missing in most horror games. Looks like a tough one to successfully pull off.
Real shame such games are so rare, out of hundreds i played only few were scary.

UltraNova3522d ago

Hmm i need to play STALKER...

As for scary games not being that scary anymore \I thing its that we've seen it all and nothing surprises us anymore...

Now Alien Iso was scary not because it had the new thing, it was a cat and mouse chase on a spaceship again but the devs played with the sound in such a way that they breathed new life to a tired concept (cat and mouse).

Remember that time early in the game after that guy got impaled by the Xenomorph? Now from there we walked in the transit area and called the transit... smoke filled the dark area and a heart-pounding music started while we waited for the train car. Tell me that cant scare the bejusus out of anyone! I was literally waiting to get dismembered by the xenomorph while hiding like crazy! INTENSE. And that was just the start of the game!

Thats ^^^ what we need more of!

DualWielding3523d ago

only game that has really scared me is Fatal Frame 2
