Game Pass Announcement Eases Some Pressures At Xbox But Adds Some Elsewhere

The Xbox Game Pass price increase puts the pressure solely on management and hopefully eases concerns for the studios.

Ahh yes, trying to spin the price increase as positive

Who posted this?

gold_drake347d ago

interesting

they removed the posters name on published articles until they get approved it seems.

shinoff2183347d ago

That kinda makes sense though. What if someone publishes something interesting but it was published by someone who generally gets hated on. Alot of us gamers are petty or can be.

Ps no I didn't publish this

Its always been like that... for as long as I've been a member at least.

monkey602347d ago

That has always been the case

Outside_ofthe_Box347d ago

^^^

It has not always been like that. People use to bitch about who submitted the article and report it for ___blank___ member having an agenda

darthv72347d ago

@outside... well things were different back in the bubble days, but since the remodel its been the same ever since. Which includes not knowing who submitted an article until after approval. I can't remember when it was remodeled but it had to be 10 years ago...?

I'm going on close to 17 years as a member... it will be 17 on the 30th of this month.

How does increasing the price and removing day one games for the 'standard' tier relieve pressure? But if you look at the article writer it tells you what you need to know lol.

lelo2play346d ago

Don't want Gamepass, then purchase the game...
There is always that option.

MrDead347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

So MS is getting their userbase to pay more to cover MS buying publishers that already sold games on Xbox, but Xbox is too weak of a platform to cover the cost so price increases, thousands fired, studios closed and games cancelled... it wouldn't surprise me if Xbox live turns to an Ubisoft style tiers pricing system, pay walling content for the highest paying subscribers.

...Microsoft are the worse thing to ever happen to gaming.

gold_drake347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

its odd strategy to increase prices by that much after ... everything.

one more nail in their coffin.

Einhander1972347d ago

Isn't it interesting how when PlayStation raised it's price every website under the sun was calling them anti-consumer calling for boycotts and more. Yet Microsoft has raised it's price twice since then (more if you count regional increases) and yet I haven't seen a single article that is more than the least bit critical of them.

In fact I what I see is cope articles like this basically trying to set the narrative that this is all fine blah blah blah.

How about an article talking about how less than two months ago Microsoft was assuring people they weren't going to create a second tier for Call of Duty? Much like 6 months before they closed Arkane they were telling everyone they weren't going to close Arkane. And ya know what, none of those statement were received by any skepticism by sites like this.

Ya know, how many times does Microsoft get to mislead at best or just flat out lie at worse before people and specifically the gaming media start calling out their B.S. and quit acting like they need to exist and that they aren't harming the industry.

The worst part is that many people foresaw every single thing that has happened, the layoffs the studio closures the price increases and the unsustainability of of a service like game pass while also questioning the the truthfulness of the things that Microsoft was saying. And those people were constantly met with hostility but those people were right nearly 100 percent of the time going back to the day they announced game pass.

GeeEssEff347d ago

Nowadays it’s a pretty safe bet to assume that if Phil Spencer, Matt Booty or Sarah Bond say one thing, Xbox will do the complete opposite within 2-6 months time.

OlderGamer17346d ago

So according to you, Spencer, Booty and Bond have no saying in this...Xbox is part of MS and those 3 are running MS gaming, the studio's and Xbox gaming....in this order...

ChasterMies347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

Microsoft is a $3T company. They can spend more on PR than Sony.

Rude-ro347d ago

They own media outlets and have re-written the book on modern day marketing/media tactics.
Basically they wrote the art of war for marketing in the digital/media world.

S2Killinit347d ago

The silver linning is that these practices by MS have caught up with them, xbox’ good-will with console gaming consumers is potentially irreparable at this point. They have lied so often that what they say is no longer believed at face value. They play bait and switch, trojan horse games with their base and over time people lose trust, even if they don’t ever admit it.

purple101346d ago

It was irreparable since halo infinite

That was their chance to win back Xbox nay-sayers

It’s been a slow, sinking ship since that point

Reaper22_347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

"The worst part is that many people foresaw every single thing that has happened, the layoffs the studio closures the price increases and the unsustainability of of a service like game pass while also questioning the the truthfulness of the things that Microsoft was saying."

Lol..what the hell are you talking about? You're actually giving people credit for predicting a price increase on a game service. Did you think it was gonna get cheaper? And you guys still on unsustainability dream. If it was true gamepass would of been gone already. Microsoft is making a lot of money with gamepass. It sounds like some of you are in serious denial about that. Google it. They made over 2.7 Billion last year.

Einhander1972347d ago

So , what you're saying is... Game pass is making money but they are still closing studios laying off thousands of people from their gaming division AND raising prices multiple times and paywalling day one games?

I can see why you support them... It's not like pointing all that out doesn't make it seem even worse, right?

Cockney347d ago

That was revenue, at this rate it'll take decades for them to claw back the 80 billion they spent, I'd say that's unsustainable

Reaper22_347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

Show us where websites were calling sony anti-consumer and calling for
boycotts and more. Post the link. I wanna read them.

People will not be happy with the price increase. I am still not happy with the increase to ps+. I would be even more upset with the price increases if there was no other alternative to get a subscription.

It seems Phil Spenser and his team hates the Xbox.

Gamepass starter $14.99 without dayone games.
Gamepass PC $12.99 with dayone games.

Once again the industry is pushing us to the PC.

purple101347d ago

yes almost like they planned it, they want all games developed with pc/xbox in mind with their monopoly on direct x, and as a result, game development tools and licensing of direct X (educated guess). they want all games on unreal engine, or one of their owned engines, now they got Bethesda, they got
1. creation engine
2. ID TECH engine 7,8,9, etc,
3. Arkanes home made 'Void' engine,
3. Infinity wards IW engine
many more I recon

what they DEFINITELY DON'T WANT
is open source engines like unity
or any competitors engines such as Sonys Decimal, Sony Santa Monicas 'Kinetica' game engine or anything form naughty dog of insomniac

their in a bit of a pickle though, (I guess) as 2k will never let them get their sticky little mitts on their R.A.G.E. engine
I think eta will always be multiplat, its one ip, you just dont sell, even to the highest bidder, you keep that to your self, at all costs, its there biggest piece of entertainment in history, dollar wise, name recognition wise, he who owns, GTA, holds the power.

this is my views,

Japan: Nintendo Switch 2 already outsold lifetime sales of Xbox Series X|S and PS5 Digital Edition

The Nintendo Switch 2 has proved to be a success the world over, however, one nation which is particularly keen on the Nintendo’s latest platform is naturally Japan. Recent sales data has shown that…

yeah nothing is gonna dethrone nintendo in japan, especially if there's a handheld involved.

Wow… Nintendo is champ in Japan, but the speed of sale is remarkable.

Proves that console gaming isn’t dead yet not by a long shot.

not surprised, the switch is relatively cheap in japan.

I guess the resistance against always online and digital only consoles is BS. The people have voted with their wallets.

NotoriousWhiz1d 8h ago

What are you talking about? Switch 2 is neither always online nor digital only.

DivineHand1251d 6h ago

Nintendo can literally block your Switch 2 console from accessing their online services at any time. When that happens, it becomes a brick. You won't even be able to play those games that use game key cards that are not installed on the console. Some users who have been blocked tried factory resetting their system, and when they tried to boot it up with a new account, they are stuck.

Speaking of game key cards, the majority of third party publishers have opted to use those instead of loading their full game on those cartridges. Imagine having a library of game key card games and going on a long trip but not being able to play a particular game because you need to connect to Nintendo servers to download the game first. It is not like the old days where you just plug in and play.

Game key cards make sense for large games like GTA, Red Dead, or COD, but I don't see why publishers who have games with sizes less than 32 GB need to use that option.

Profchaos1d 4h ago

If you try to mod your system it could get banned from online play like every single system since the ps3 and xbox
