PS5 is pretty great and you can get one for $450, though honestly they go on sale pretty often so you can regularly find them for less and bundled with games.

Such a great value.

Learning from their mistakes launching ps3 at £599 makes me think the ps5 pro will launch at £499

Which would make it quite the bargain to play at 4k for technically cheap vs a gaming laptop or pc where just the graphics card would be that price

Bearing in mind no windows licence but you get a controller a 1tb ssd, power supply and case, all for the same money, maybe even a free Astro game thrown in, (one can hope) 😊

The Pro is going to be using a 5 year old CPU with a small clock increase, it will run some games better but because of the CPU bottleneck it will still have its limitations where the normal PS5 does in frame rates. The Pro is mostly about running higher resolution/detail than PS5 can manage.

“The Pro is going to be using a 5 year old CPU with a small clock increase, it will run some games better but because of the CPU bottleneck it will still have its limitations where the normal PS5 does in frame rates“

Regarding CPU gains. Yup.

Thank goodness for modern frame gen hardware that eliminates the barrier of the weaker cpu. Effectively doubling the fps without doubling the cpu usage.

PS3 had a much higher exclusive quality and quantity compared to PS5 and still acclaimed to this day.. some of the most memorable consoles ever..

@AsimLionheart

I just want to point out what you said as a perfect example of how Digital Foundry is completely full of crap.

The PS5 can play PS4 games even though it has a different CPU there is ZERO reason to even think that the PS5 Pro would be limited in anyway by a different CPU. Obviously the PS6 will play PS5 and PS4 games and it's almost certainly going to have a different CPU.

The fact of the matter is that games are not CPU limited in most cases, and PSSR is there in cases when they are. Every game that has any kind of a 60 FPS mode on PS5 is also going to have 60 FPS on Pro, and I think it's extremely likely that you will see games that are able to play games that have 30 FPS graphics modes on PS% with unlocked framerates that hit 60 FPS or close enough that VRR will kick in on the Pro..

The PS5 Pro is going to be fantastic.

I trust that PlayStation engineers know what they are doing more than some goofballs who make videos on the internet.

The PS3 launched for £425. £599 would have been crazy money!

DarXyde334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

I don't think they're above matching PS3 in price. $600 USD doesn't exactly have the same purchasing power as it did in 2006.

The PS5 has also stayed at $399 minimum for the entire generation to this point. But that said, if the Pro is $499, that means PS5 standard is dropping in price....BUT, I think Pro will only be available as a digital edition (with the detachable drive for base PS5 being compatible). So even at $499, an $80 disc drive puts it around $599. I also wouldn't be surprised to see it feature a CELL chip for proper backwards compatibility (and it's also a selling point). In that situation, $600 is likely.

@einhander still crying about that 0.1s framedrop in hb2? you will probably never answer this but if DF is the lying piece of shits you made them out to be, wouldn't that mean that they were also lying about all the ps games they analyzed? or are they only lying when you don't like the result (aka anything remotely positive being said about how a game runs on a console that's not ps5)?

Yeah but what a disappointing top 20. 2024 has been a shitty year!

Eonjay333d ago

2024 has been a great year depending on your taste in games. I have enjoyed several of the games on this list.

shinoff2183333d ago

Depends on what you play I guess. As a jrpg fan and other genres, shts been fantastic. Last couple years have been amazing.

DodoDojo334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

"Digital sales on Nintendo and Xbox platforms not included"
The list is a bit skewed.

DodoDojo334d ago (Edited 334d ago )

Yeah I didn't read the chart well. Still surprised to see MK8 not on the list, as it's been consistently on top of the charts since it released and Palworld has sold 15m on Steam alone yet its missing.

ChasterMies333d ago

Only skewed for Xbox. Lots of folks buy cartridges for Switch. No Xbox Series S owner is buying discs. But on PS5, no one is buying discs for PS5 digital.

Christopher333d ago

All these charts from Piscatella are like this. So many footnotes on where they're not counting sales. About as useful as VGChartz numbers.

And that's why a playstation is my main console.

It's got the exclusives i prefer and rarely gets excluded from multiplatform releases like xbox and switch does.

crazyCoconuts334d ago

And that controller is just fun when you factor in the speaker, haptics, trigger feature, gyro, etc
Maybe I'm alone here but I really notice that stuff and miss it if I play a controller game on the PC.

Profchaos334d ago

I love my Ps5 but to be honest the controller has been the most disappointing aspect for me personally and I know it's an unpopular opinion most people love it and I'm not talking about all the cool stuff it can do but I just prefer the feel of the ds4 and it's grips with its lighter weight and comfort.
Basically I miss the ds4 after so long with that it felt natural to use has been my favourite controller since the PS1 days
