The First Descendant players share their day-one thoughts and whether the game is worth playing

The First Descendant has been out for a day now, and players have begun to share their thoughts on the latest looter shooter.

It hooks you with all the dopamine-inducing, flashy, leveling up screens. Then you realize how huge the grind actually is. I learned this in the alpha. It's like every other f2p game. It's fun for a minute but you'll know if it's your game or not for the long run within the first few hours of playing it.

I must admit I was pleasantly surprised by The First Descendant, for a free game there's a fair amount to do and the combat is pretty decent. Game could do with some optimisation though, get some awful frame drops at times and rubber banding.

Does it have staying power? Only time will tell, if Nexon plays their cards right this game could be the next warframe but if they dawdle with content updates then I can see this game dying off fast

I played a couple hours, and the similarity to Destiny/Warframe were palpable.

Pretty bog-standard 3rd person shooter. Gave a few missions a chance. Tried out a few different weapons. Put about two hours in than uninstalled it. Not a game for me.

I hear the cosmetics you get are single use, that would mean grinding for more or buying...supporting that practice doesnt sound right to me

I haven't tried it, but based on what I've seen, while it looks nice and shiny, it also looks like a very grindy and frustrating F2P that's rigged into luring people tinto microtransactions. Not to mention seemingly bulletsponge enemies with ai from wish.

Comparing to warframe for example, where you can do quite well just by farming in game items and selling them for Platinum (the "premium" currency) on a market place. It also a huge supportive community. In my early days there were several times when a veteran player just threw in a bunch of useful items and paid extra when I was in the trading hub.
