Senua's Saga: Hellblade II Review - A Visual Feast Lacking Depth | Chit Hot

Senua's Saga: Hellblade II has now launched, bringing with it some of the most stunning visuals you've ever seen in a game.

Sonic188124d ago (Edited 24d ago )

The first game lacked depth as well, but the graphics were phenomenal

darthv7224d ago

...not to mention the sound / atmosphere. Especially when using headphones.

Deathdeliverer24d ago

Going to be real. I’m playing on my PC and every setting is on high at 60fps locked. The game is beautiful, sounds good in headphones (I’m sorry but Returnal still holds the aural crown), and has an impressive photo mode. Can literally hit that at any time. You won’t have full control at certain times, but it’s impressive. After more than an hour I’ve already started to get bored. The fights are brain dead so far and it is a CRAP ton of walking and listening. I’m over the beginning “theme” of you did this to us (people that have played will get this as not to spoil anything). I literally non stop run every chance I get. Obviously isn’t the whole game but gahdamn. Hopefully it picks up soon. Definitely can’t see this being a 10/10 by any stretch of the imagination because the beginning has gotten so boring. Here’s to a better experience tomorrow or Friday when I pick it back up.

Elda24d ago

Agreed. I've played about 34 mins & it was boring. I'm going to try again tonight for another half hour or so & see if it gets better.

Sonic188124d ago (Edited 24d ago )

The game is only 6-7 hours. It's more of a narrative movie game

RhinoGamer8824d ago

I felt this way with Alan Wake 2. I lasted four hours and then quit...walking sim with weak combat.

KwietStorm_BLM24d ago

lol Alan Wake 2 ain't no walking sim at all.

They can learn not to do boring games 🫢

jznrpg22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

If you go for a graphic type game you better have a great story like Heavy Rain or have some good gameplay. Can’t make a game with amazing graphics but nothing to make you want to continue playing it.

PrinceOfAnger19h ago

What good gameplay in Death stranding , Detroit , heavy rain, until dawn ? you call press X to continue " cutscenes" fun games? I am sorry these are movie games or "tech-demos" too!

But i know some like this type of games.
Maybe Hellblade is not for you?

Elda19h ago

Every game you mentioned with the exception of Until Dawn I played to the very end & enjoyed them. I can't say that about Hellblade 2. I only played 2 hours which I forced myself to & I haven't gone back to it since & that was 2 weeks ago.

MrNinosan17h ago

You obviously didn't play Death Stranding.
And even Detroit, Heavy Rain, Beyond two Souls and Until Dawn is far more gameplay than Hellblade.

mkis00717h ago

You just mentioned a goty winner...are you only able to see the surface of things. Not capable of looking deeper?

P_Bomb16h ago

All those games had more gameplay or story than Hellblade 2. I’m still in ch.4 where I stalled out of boredom.

repsahj9h ago

I platinumed Detroit because of engaging story and gameplay dude.

andy858h ago

Detroit was outstanding storywise. How can you compare that? I played through it 4 times for different story paths

isarai5h ago

Good lord u made yourself look stupid, painfully obvious you haven't played any of those games.

It's such a shame the game isn't selling too well.

jwillj2k412d ago (Edited 12d ago )

Boring + walking sim + QTE fighting = full r

Never go full r

CobraKai12d ago

I like it when devs do something different. I’d love to support every game that separates itself from the boring and tired FPSs.

My issue with H2 is that there is no physical release. Id love to play this game, but i need a physical release. If one never comes, then so be it.

babadivad12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

The story tramples over the foundations set in the first game. Senua is insane. She sees things that aren't there. Hears things that aren't there. The enemies she fights were monstrous "demons" but were they really?? Likely not. They were just men. In the old game, the voices in her head are openly antagonistic. It made you further question her sanity and her grip on reality.

In Hell Blade 2 (granted I haven't finished yet) the monsters ARE real. Everyone can see them. Gods and giants aren't just fables. They are there in the flesh threatening humanity. The voices in her head are cheerleaders now. Senua's story has taken on the "Chosen One" quasi-mary sue element.

Hellblade 2 erased the main reason Senua and her story was interesting. They butchered her.

It's been a long time since I played the original but in this game they have fully turned her father into a villain that was just "holding her back". Because of course he's just an evil man trying to hold her down. And now he's the one who led the mob that killed her mother and burned her at the stake.

Like I said before, it's been a while since I played the first game but from what I remembered, he loved his wife. She went insane like Senua and was killed. He started seeing the same signs of insanity in Senua and sequestered them away from the village to protect her from them.

If he's the one who lead the mob to burn his wife at the stake, why the fuck would he hide Senua away from the village? The puzzles are mind numbingly simple in this game too. That's secondary to the way they butchered the world they set up in the first game.

After I beat the first game, I always felt it was a mistake for Senua to have survived. She should have died at the end with her beloved like a classic Greek Tragedy. The first game was a beautiful story, the sequel ruins everything that was special about it.

Rynxie12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

I agree with everything you said, Xbox fan girls need to destroy their consoles and quit gaming.

babadivad12d ago

@Rynixe

Chill with the fanboy crap. The first time I played Hellblade was on Playstation. I obviously have an Xbox as well since I'm playing the sequel. I have had both consoles since launch. I'm giving my honest review of a video game and comparing it to its predecessor. Don't look any deeper than the words I put in my working review. I'm not a fanboy. To be honest, Playstation "fanboys" should be terrified if Microsoft really leaves the industry.

Sony with no competition is a terrible site indeed. People have the shortest memories. I have also been warning you guys about this. Microsoft leaving gaming is going to be the worst thing to happen to Playstation fans.

Ironmike12d ago

U are wrong they were real the demons the journey was real she wasn't crazy like her father said the developers have stated that the ending was her relising through her grief she couldnt bring him back no matter what and it was time to let go

Sciurus_vulgaris12d ago

The giants in the game probably aren’t real, they are a metaphor for natural disasters.

Rynxie12d ago

Baba

The fanboy crap? GTFO you clown. I didn't even bother reading your crap, you're a joke.

Wasted visuals, the game is interesting only at the 4th chapter, dumb ending
rushed and unfinished story

Ironmike12d ago

Iam on about first game not 2
