The fact that it sold less than FF16 is sad. This game is honestly one of the best Ff games I’ve played since the PS1 days. I’m curious if FF16 just put people off to the series. I’m hoping sales in the west were far better. It’s a little concerning that Square hasn’t posted a tweet by now on the numbers to celebrate.

Digital Sales are not included, and I am most certain it sold great digitally thanks to the Remake/Rebirth bundle etc.
Don't you worry, both FFXVI and Rebirth were great and the franchise is finally back on the top.

CornholioX407d ago

And now many people waiting for the next FFXIV expansion pack Dawntrail. Also curious with new graphical update.

Agreed. FFXVI was a FF game in name only. Rebirth is outstanding it deserved better. Can only think it's marketing. I remember adverts all over TV for 16, there hasn't been one in the UK for Rebirth. (In the UK, can't speak for Japan of course).

Remember ff16 had no competition in the summer. Rebirth released in a time games are dropping left and right.

shinoff2183407d ago

In rebirth defense ff16 came out against nothing. Rebirth came out against an extremely stacked few moths. Especially for jrpgs. Ff16 don't have sh on rebirth. They are completly different and rebirth walks all over it.

VersusDMC407d ago (Edited 407d ago )

Street Fighter 6 and Diablo 4 came out before it on the same month so i wouldn't say no competition.

Edit - Looking at the june sales there was jedi survivor, hogwarts and Zelda in competition as well.

Scissorman407d ago

While it may have sold more than Rebirth for now (at least in terms of physical sales in Japan), I think Rebirth will have longer legs than 16.

Tacoboto407d ago

I agree with you, XVI being how it was will be harmful to the franchise I feel. It would've fared better as a new IP or the best DMC6 if it came without the added bloat of the underdeveloped side quests and the semi-open world.

Hopefully it did do better in the states. But if not maybe it's a call for simpler, less-expansive open titles. I got it day one but I know once I start it I'm basically not playing anything else for a good chunk of time.

EternalTitan407d ago

16 sold well initially and then it dropped off like a cliff.
VIIR has much better longer legs than 16.
And will most likely outsell that yosh pis non JRPG.

Ps5conehead407d ago

Play the game and let square Enix worry about there sales. Unless your making money off sales why worry

CrimsonWing69406d ago

Because sales impact future releases? This isn’t rocket science, you ever wonder why we don’t see a Breath of afire from Capcom or an Onimusha 5? That’s why,

Single player games have legs.

Amazing game. I still prefer turn-based but I think Rebirth is better in every way than Remake or XVI.

fr0sty407d ago

Yeah, Remake was great, Rebirth is phenomenal. I gave it a standing ovation once the credits rolled... But man was that last fight a pain! Left me screaming all sorts of obscenities at my TV.

Einhander1972407d ago

All the sales numbers for this game are misleading because they also sold a dual pack which sold around 40% of the copies of the main release.

shinoff2183407d ago

Those double packs aren't being counted? I'm legitimately asking because that would explain some.

VersusDMC407d ago

Rebirth is 4th and the double pack is 16th for the year in the us. They are counting them but separately.

Always love to hear positive sales news for games. All you hear is doom and gloom for our industry but these prove it’s still alive and kicking.

i mean, weve been joking about this for a while now haha

they're gonna resell this trilogy for the next 20 years ha

but i wonder ... remake and rebirth already had to cut back on the psr4and ps5.

hows that gonna go on that inferior system?

andy8513d ago

Steam deck runs it ok and the switch 2 is more powerful (docked]. Handheld mode will be the interesting one

PRIMORDUS13d ago

No physical release GTFO. This game deserves to be in your collection, not some digital shit.

raWfodog13d ago

I can definitely see them offering a boxed collection of the entire trilogy after it’s completed. Or at least it would be a smart thing to do if Square wanted to bring in more money.
