Mass Effect 5 Development Leads Are Mainly Original Trilogy Veterans

The development leads behind EA and Bioware’s Mass Effect 5 are mainly series veterans who worked on the original trilogy.

gold_drake432d ago

thank god for that. me4 was ... not bad per se but damn ha.

just_looken431d ago

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is a back for blood situation remember that game were they advertised "from the left 4 dead devs" but in reality it was like 5 people including the guy that made garbage cans for l4d 1.

Well here they have 4 people that worked on me2/3 out of a team of hundreds.

jznrpg430d ago

You don’t need the entire dev team to go back to your roots but you do need some of the main people at the top. I hope for a game more like the first game. It was a dark slower paced rpg. 2&3 felt more towards a shooter than rpg.

LordoftheCritics430d ago

Original Bioware doesn't even exist.

The people with the sensibilities and values of that era of gaming have moved past their EA mistakes.

sagapo430d ago

@ jznrpg; I can agree somewhat, first ME was more rpg than other 2 but combat was a bit rough around the edges and you had less control over your teammates during combat. ME2 and 3 fixed that but the rpg elements were toned down.
Personally I liked ME2 the most tho. ME4 was very meh imo.

Oh it was bad. Let’s be real.

just_looken430d ago

No kidding on pc i had to run mods just for a smooth gameplay experience but i never finished it just was to dam bad.

RaidenBlack430d ago

Well actually Archetype Entertainment is the new BioWare, composed of mainly ex-BioWare vets.
And they're developing Exodus (starring Matthew McConaughey), a new sci-fi RPG (spiritual successor to Mass Effect, dare I say?)

Expecting the worst hoping for the best

just_looken431d ago (Edited 431d ago )

This is a back for blood situation do not put any hope into this being good.

Only 4 people from the mass effect 2/3 days they could leave anytime or just have no input at all remember anthem heck the current nightmare dragon age dev cycle.

Oh and remember how mass effect 3 ended or even the story yeah.............

There may be hope for it being good then but I'm not getting my hopes up with the god awful Andromeda.

Shikoku429d ago

Mass Effect 5's Combat Should Take a Page Out of Doom's Playbook

As BioWare hones in on combat for the next Mass Effect game, learning from Id Software's modern Doom games could be a smart move.

No. It’s an rpg.
Make it more rpg not less

cloganart53d ago (Edited 53d ago )

Don't know why you are getting downvoted. You are absolutely right.

Mass Effect combat should always have a layered approach that benefits from teamwork, with a good combination of Tech, Soldiers and Biotics and navigating + utilizing the environment.

Andromeda did fast action-combat already and it was borderline rejected by the majority of the playerbase.

Rebel_Scum53d ago

Andromedas combat was probably the only thing universally praised. I liked it. tbh I dont think they should change much of the way Andromeda played for 5.

The story, characters and missions/side missions were the worst part of it. And those f’n vaults ugh…

toxic-inferno53d ago

@Rebel_Scum

Hopefully they'll find some middle ground between the two. The extra verticality was great. But personally, I prefer being able to pause the battle when opening the combat wheels/menus, rather than just slowing down events. Allowed for much more careful and tactical gameplay.

The one thing I hope they fully bring back is a proper class system. Andromeda's system where you could mix and match across all the classes is a perfect example of a system that gives you more freedom, but ultimately reduces the uniqueness of each playthrough.

This article is complete trash. It's an rpg not an action game. Not everything has to be super fast paced. Sometimes methodical works better.

I think that if this doesn't get shelved, it will never be the game people dream of having. The high of ME2 hasn't been reached since, and it's on that mythical high bar that is likely impossible to surpass; let alone be reached by present day BioWare.

It might even have monetization practices, since that was the "believed" reasoning for DA: Veilguard's failure

jznrpg53d ago

I preferred 1 over 2 gameplay wise, plus it was darker in tone. I hope they go back to that instead of more shooter that 2/3 was

Bioware's Economy Game Designer (Harel Eilam) is now assisting in the development of the Battlefield franchise as Narrative Designer - as part of Electronic Arts' Rotational Experience Program.

VenomUK129d ago

EA needs to rehire the game director of Dragon Age: Inquisition. He did an outstanding job and I hope he can bring those same story beats to Mass Effect.

PrecursorOrb129d ago

I don’t know if quality is at the forefront of their mind

Rebel_Scum129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

Just dont stuff it up. Keep the Andromeda gameplay along with planet exploration with the Mako. A great villain, great story, characters and a new mysterious threat to fight against and we’ll be good.
