Horizon Forbidden West Hits 40k Players On Steam

This year will definitely be a successful one for Sony in terms of PC game launches, thanks to the success of Helldivers, but not only. Recently, Horizon Forbidden West was also released on pc platform, and it is showing very good results on Steam.

For 2 years old game and at 60$ price on steam this is good but would be far better if sony make their games day one on PC.

andy8531d ago

Big reason they won't. It was cracked within seconds of becoming live. They only people PC gamers have to blame for waiting years is themselves

PrinceOfAnger31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

You know how Cyberpunk , BG3, The witcher 3 and other games were more successful on PC than on consoles right?
Maybe even GTA5 and Starfield.

Shiore2u31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

@PrinceOfAnger
Helldivers II as well, even with console platform exclusivity during an exclusive drought majority of sales are on PC and that's with releasing simultaneously as a multiplayer game(no cracking). Starting to wonder what people are even using their PS5s for if the main argument has always been for exclusives. With that said the only people console gamers have to blame for their games going multiplatform is themselves.

RaidenBlack31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

Although cracking exists, Majority PC gamers nowadays have moved away from fiddling with piracy due to Steam sales, post-release game fixing patches, DRMs and better support.
And even though, I am not supporter of piracy but many delisted games are now only available as pirated copies.
Contributing much to game preservation.
Many DRM-heavy poor-performing games also have benefitted from DRM-free cracked copies. Like REVIII.
Again not promoting piracy but these things have happened and continues to happen.

Tody_ZA31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

@andy85 Dude give up this tired old fake narrative that was once relevant in the PS3 and 360 era that PC gamers don't buy games. I game on both PS5 and PC and I actually buy more games on PC because of Steam and GOG sales and the wealth of indie titles. The player counts on games on Steam and sales more than justify how many players are buying. PC gaming has become a lot more accessible, handheld devices like Steamdeck and Asus Rog have evolved the market and it's actually an inconvenience to pirate these days especially with the patching games require and the way Steam makes gaming, family sharing, updates and libraries so easy.

andy8531d ago

@princeofanger yes but they aren't PS studio games. A lot of PC players have a console too so buy the game when it comes out as they don't want to wait years. What will happen if they're released simultaneously. Buy a £\$70 version or crack it for their PC for free and play it graphically better.

DarXyde31d ago

I don't think piracy is a huge thing anymore.

If it was, you'd likely see devs avoiding PC, which they are not. They've embraced it more than anything. Piracy isn't as simple as just pirating either. It does require some know-how and people passionate about finding a way to make it happen. Considering what happened to the Yuzu guys, it is absolutely in no one's best interest to pursue it unless you want the rest of your life to be on very hard mode.

Now if we want to say that staggered releases will give incentive to buy a PS5, there's that. It also gives Sony a reason to charge a premium for an older game. Prices on Steam are usually up to $60 if I recall, and there is the chance that people just buy games on PC in that case because it's $10 cheaper.

Valid points, but the piracy thing, I don't know about that.

I prefer their current method of focusing on getting everything they can out of their iwn hardware, and having a separate studio worry about porting it. I feel like the production quality and polish would take a hit if they had to add yet another platform to worry about during development. HFW was already quite a bit glitcher and noticeably less balanced that the first due to being cross gen.

PrinceOfAnger31d ago

But they are missing more sales by not releasing the games more closer to ps5 release.

isarai31d ago

@PrinceOfAnger

There's a bigger picture they're after, to entice people to get the console. The end goal is to get people locked into their digital storefront where they make the most profit. It's like are you gonna keep waiting 3yrs to play it at full price or just buy the console?

RaidenBlack31d ago

@isarai
Very few hardcore PC gamers actually switch over or buy a new non-Nintendo console just to play a particular game early.
The situation was there during the X360 and PS3 times due to the tight exclusivity but doubt its there anymore, especially after console games are ending up on PC platforms eventually nowadays, one way or the other.
The only game that's capable of enticing new console sales for PC gamers is GTA VI. Some PC gamers might give in to the hype and fork up cash just to the play the game early.

TheEroica31d ago

Sonys fanbase would riot because they're anti gamer.... They shill for sonys corporate suites and would stand up for sonys old tired business practices rather than see games liberated so Devs get paid.

raWfodog31d ago

Sony is in the business of pushing their consoles. Why would they release their first-party games day one on PC?

Those are good numbers? I get so confused as to what’s success numbers and what isn’t.

mkis00731d ago

for a single player game 2 years old...ya pretty damn good. Even Helldivers 2 wasn't expecting that much at launch.(they peaked at close to 500k on steam alone)

CantThinkOfAUsername31d ago

They're not. Watch the numbers of Ghost of Tsushima. Horizon didn't need a sequel. Simple as that.

ModsDoBetter31d ago

The goalposts are constantly moving depending on what team the game comes from.

Nothing out of the ordinary here.

badz14931d ago

you do know that this is just a port, right? the game is already a huge success for Sony when it was console exclusives. sorry to burst your bubble

CrimsonWing6930d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Oh man, I’m glad you mentioned the PC release is a port of the console game. I know me asking if sales of a PC game being at 40k is considered “good” or “bad” was directly linked to the ignorance of not knowing a game releasing on PC years after releasing on a console was an indication of not knowing this specific game was a port regardless of my question being directed to a quantitative observation of sales for a game on a platform and somehow “burst my bubble” on whatever the f*ck for asking if a game selling 40k on a platform is considered good.

I don’t know how I would’ve made it through life without you.

raWfodog31d ago

Yes, these are positive numbers. Some will downplay if the numbers aren’t astronomical or something but, from the article:

“Recently, Horizon Forbidden West was also released on Microsoft's platform, and it is showing very good results on Steam.

According to SteamDB, Horizon Forbidden West peaked at 40,462 concurrent players on Steam, which is less than Horizon Zero Dawn, but still Sony's fifth biggest launch on the platform.”

I have to say I had so much fun playing Horizon FBW 2 years ago on PS5 that I would buy it on PC and play it again probably the second most fun game that i played on ps5 behind spider man 2 for this generation of consoles

wesnytsfs31d ago

It was great on the PS5 loved it one of my fav games but the PC version will be the definitive version for me PC hardware is just so much more powerful than console Hardware.

andy8531d ago

Still probably the best looking game I've ever played. I'd love to see a side by side of a high end PC and PS5 because possibly naively, I don't see what much they can improve. Even the foliage was next level. Obviously the frame rate

PrinceOfAnger31d ago

Maybe on PS5 but on PC Cyberpunk is the best looking game right now with tech like Path-tracing along side Alan Wake 2

From digital foundry they said that after the release of HFW
"
( Alan Wake 2 is the best looking game released so far this generation. Whether you're playing on PlayStation 5 in either of its quality modes, or on a PC without hardware-accelerated ray tracing features active, you're still getting a frankly incredible-looking game. )"

anast31d ago

The PC crowd enjoys spending thousands on renting games. The performance to price isn't even in the same universe. Console is miles better in value and game ownership.

Number1TailzFan31d ago

@anast

If you spend a few thousand you usually get far better performance than console at higher resolutions, that's the point, and not always are GPUs bad value. With consoles the games generally cost more, and you have to pay the online subscription fee, that's where they make their money back from console gamers.

P_Bomb31d ago (Edited 31d ago )

“Whether you're playing on PlayStation 5 in either of its quality modes, or…”

Eh. I didn’t find Alan Wake graphics that special tbh.

andy8531d ago

Cyberpunk definitely is gorgeous but it's a different type of graphical, city location. I haven't experience a high end Cyberpunk though so you're probably right. Didn't play AW because of the digital only situation. Don't really like to judge things just off YouTube

RaidenBlack30d ago

as well as the upcoming GrayZone Warfare

I'm actually quite happy with the PS5 performance mode. Only slightly lowers the res, which I'm fine with.

andy8515d ago

I played in the 120hz mode (was getting about 90-100). Baffles me how they got it looking that good when certainly other games are struggling with 30 fps.

raWfodog15d ago

I played it on PS5 performance mode as well. Easily one of the top best-looking games worlds. Beautiful, vibrant colors and details.

GamerRN15d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The 120hz mode wasn't bad at all, but I like the in between mode best

InUrFoxHole14d ago

@andy
It's the devs man. Not all are equal. Yesterday I played Uncharted 4 and Gears 5. The amount of detail is so impressive in both those games. Some devs just know how to get more out of the hardware.

Still the best looking game I've played. Bet its truly stunning on PC in higher res.

Sonic188115d ago (Edited 15d ago )

The PC version is phenomenal!! But I decided to play it with the dualsense controller on PC and steam supports the controller!!

Sonic188114d ago

The best looking game by far. It even looks better than Hellblade 2

StormSnooper14d ago

Amazing game. All around. Great gameplay. Great world, great story, etc
