Alone in the Dark Review - A Flawed Reimagining that almost gets it right - GameWatcher

From GameWatcher: "Alone in the Dark presents a promising yet imperfect reimagining that captures the essence of a mesmerising, atmospheric adventure game. However, it struggles to rationalise the inclusion of clunky combat and basic stealth elements that detract from the overall experience.

Solid performances support a narrative rich in psychological and cosmic horror, motivating you to delve deeper into the mysteries of Derceto Manor, even though lackluster boss battles weaken the impact of its critical moments. While these action-oriented sections constitute just a fraction of the game, their lackluster implementation impedes the revival effort from achieving its fullest potential and matching the success of other recent survival horror remakes."

At least a lot of people will finally play Bomb Rush Cyberfunk.

Eonjay14d ago

I have been hearing a lot of positive feedback in reference to this game. Honna give it a go.

Terry_B15d ago

A really good month this time.

Don't care for NBA but its pretty cool that Destiny 2 is now completely? with all dlc? available via ps+ essential for those who have it since years.

Also Alone in the Dark and Bomb Rush will be played through by me.

Elda15d ago

I'll download The Final Shape.

fsfsxii15d ago

Overall great deals for everyone I guess.

For me personally though:

• "players who join PlayStation Plus during this year’s celebration can save up to 33% on select 12-month memberships."

• "players who are currently a PlayStation Plus Essential or Extra member, save 33% on the remainder of your membership when upgrading to PlayStation Plus Premium/Deluxe."

Ehhh ... Days of Play last until 11th. My subscription expires June, 14th.

I literally am laughing at me rn.

DivineHand12517d ago

If Sony allowed subscriptions to be sold by third party sellers like they did in the PS4 days, you would not have this problem.

VersusDMC17d ago

That's why everyone should get their subscriptions now as last years days of play was may 29 to 12th of june. Mine is expiring on the 7th so i will just get essential or possibly extra this year.

And you can atleast get 15 days of extra or premium at 33% off to try it out.

Profchaos17d ago

You used to be able to stack you Sub with these deals it would be good to do this as I'm not paying 214 for deluxe again

Abear2116d ago

Forza is already on sale, with patience you can buy dozens of games for that $

GhostScholar16d ago

This shows how game pass is eating ps plus lunch…..they’re lowering the price and the crazy thing is the premium tier is worse than the tier below it lol

Will see about getting my kid a cheaper PS Plus sub so he can backup and transfer his saves again. Really wish that was free ala XB.

Hopefully Destiny 2 The Final Shape comes with a free gear level upgrade like last year’s PS Plus offering. To bring you up to speed with all the content and everyone else. I still need to do a Nightfall Strike on Grandmaster difficulty, but ain’t got time to grind.

Lexreborn216d ago

Why not add him to you PlayStation plus family? I added my sons and it includes access to all my games and ps plus.

P_Bomb16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

I have my primary set to his console so he can play online multiplayer and all my games, but it doesn’t give him access to cloud storage. That’s the problem. He needs to back up his saves. From the link:

PlayStation Plus features that can't be shared

Buying PlayStation Plus discounted products
Redeeming PS Plus games on another account.
Online storage.
Auto patch download.
Early access to time-limited game trials.

More like Days of Meh.... no specialized controllers or systems like in 2018 and 2019.

Eonjay17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

I mean it feels like you are forcing yourself to be negative here. Those are some really decent deals tbh. Also, everyone thought PS5 would go up to match Xbox so going down is a nice surprise too.

17d ago
Eonjay17d ago

They did not confirm price increases. That is a lie.

Eonjay17d ago

If you really beleived what you are saying why do you have to keep making alts to say it?

darthv7217d ago

None of those deals are of any great consequence to me. I was hoping they would bring back the special themed hardware after a 5 year break. They had it in 2018 and 19 and nothing for 20-24. 25 could have been the year to bring it back.

ocelot0716d ago

To be fair he right about the special edition days of play controllers and hardware. They could of at least made a controller and limited edition ps5 side plates for the event.

But the other deals are cool.

Boy, that's a real strange and specific goal post to have.

raWfodog17d ago (Edited 17d ago )

To be clear, what are you referring to when you say 'specialized'? Just wanted to know if you had a different take on these controller and system deals.

Deals on PS5 console offerings include:

In the United States and Canada, PlayStation 5 console – Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 Bundle (Digital and Standard) will be available starting at $399.99 USD / $509.99 CAD (Save up to $119.99 USD / $159.99 CAD compared to buying separately).
In select regions such as Europe and Asia, PlayStation 5 console (Digital and Standard) will be on promotion, starting at €399.99 / £339.99 / ¥65,980.
$50 USD off PlayStation 5 Pro console

There will also be offers for PS5 accessories and games, including:

$50 USD off PlayStation VR2 and PlayStation VR2 Horizon Call of the Mountain Bundle
$30 USD off Pulse Explore wireless earbuds
$30 USD off DualSense Edge wireless controller
$20 USD off Access controller
$20 USD off DualSense wireless controller

darthv7217d ago

Both DoP 2018 and 19 had special themed PS4 slim. I have both and while they did not do them again in 20-24.... I was hoping they would bring it back in 25 with a special themed PS5 slim or even Pro.

repsahj17d ago

This is their way to counter Nintendo Switch 2 launch week. I might get the discounted annual premium subs, but I think the game lineup is weak.

Deathdeliverer16d ago

That games lineup is huge. It’s got new games on there and really good ones like Tekken 8. The PlayStation 5 being cheaper than the switch 2 is a counter in and of itself. Early adopters are early adopters. It will sell well, but not as good as the original switch. Not with that price and a far more capable machine with real online available for less. I think old Reggie said it best. Nintendo thrived on innovation and pushing new ideas. Not just rereleasing better versions of what it already had. The Wii was a massive success. The Wii U…. The 3DS was a big success, the DS XL… The switch huge success. The switch 2….. we will see.

Puty16d ago

So no deals for existing ps plus premium members?

Embracer shuts down Alone in the Dark Reboot developers Pieces Interactive

From GameWatcher: "Embracer has shut down Pieces Interactive, the studio that recently developed the Alone in the Dark Reboot for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Pieces Interactive, acquired by THQ Nordic in 2017, worked on the Titan Quest franchise. Its most recent game, Alone in the Dark, received mixed critical reception at launch but was improved with subsequent patches."

Like we did not see this coming. Pieces and Alone in the Dark, had a kick me sign on their back the entire dev cycle to release. Perfect example of not reading current market trends, bad forecasting, marketing and release.

1nsomniac361d ago (Edited 361d ago )

Why is it the perfect example?? It was actually one of the few games that did all those things well. In fact considering the current environment in the industry it actually did all those things very well.

The problem was the game itself was just rough around the edges and that’s the problem we currently have in the industry it’s hard to release something like that when everybody wants perfection and the developer and publisher doesn’t have enough to pay off all the reviewers.. it has a large cult following and had potential to be exactly what survival horror fans have been crying out for while they were waiting for silent hill 2. Don’t see what market trends and forecasting has anything to do with it at all. I don’t remember it fighting in its release window either.

RaidenBlack361d ago

Alone in the Dark would've gained more praise if it released in 2022, well before Alan Wake II and other horror projects

Kurisu361d ago

The demo they released a while back didn't leave a good impression, and it seems like they were riding far too much on Jodie Comer and David Hayter to be the driving force to buy the game. They're both great actors, but their performance on this game from what I've seen felt very stiff/forced - like they were out of their comfort zones. It's a shame to see another studio closure, though, and I hope the people effected (affected? I always get it wrong) can find more work soon.

CantThinkOfAUsername360d ago

Affect is the verb. Effect is the noun.

Elda361d ago

I played the demo of AITD & it wasn't good at all.

Kurisu361d ago

It was a poor demo. Too short as well.

Elda361d ago

I thought it was very boring.

Azfargh360d ago

The game itself seems a new experience going on the full game.

MrBaskerville360d ago

The demo sucked, full game was a lot better.

JEECE361d ago

Embracer's takeaway from this will probably be that they should focus on live service games.
