Sony has once again begun to sell digital PS5 game codes, though, for now, only PSVR2 titles are available in this manner.

They need to start selling normally again. I used to buy them for gifts for friends who do not buy physical at all. Don't have or collect a single physical game. Plus you could always find great deals on 2nd-hand codes that were not used.

Christopher431d ago

Sony stopped because Amazon wanted them to lower their cut of the sales so Amazon could make more money per sale (why you couldn't pre-order games for a while, Amazon was pushing them around). Same thing they did with Disney. And Amazon is the #1 seller of these things online.

just_looken431d ago

amazon is always looking for more cash you think being trillionare company would be enough.

just_looken431d ago

No they need to stop selling this environmental disaster these cards are like plastic tubs or those gift cards.

We should step into the 2010's on psn with the ability to gift games

CantThinkOfAUsername430d ago

The reason gifting is removed is always because of abusers. They buy games in poorer economies and 'gift' them to their other accounts or someone else's. Gift cards allow SIE to control where the card is being used with currency.

EmperorDalek431d ago

On that note, I think a gifting system on the Playstation Store is long overdue

Jingsing431d ago

One of the reasons I never got a PSVR2 was due to the lack of physical games. Don't want a paperweight headset when the inevitable happens.

MetroidFREAK21431d ago

Same. Physical games are coming, but it may be too late

DazaMc431d ago

I aways hated changing discs with the head set on.

shinoff2183431d ago

Lol. Take it off for 2 seconds

Games_People_Play431d ago

Will Sony delete my games whenever they feel like it?

ravens52431d ago

Yes, as will Xbox. Do Not Purchase Digitally! You've been warned!

just_looken431d ago (Edited 431d ago )

Yeah go down town and buy the finals oh wait

I know go downtown get a disc based version of hell divers ohh um palworld? oh wait.

ravens52431d ago

You know they have a physical version of Helldivers right? Lol.

shinoff2183431d ago (Edited 431d ago )

Ravens52. Don't forget sweet little Nintendo. Who just shut down 3 whole shops in the last few years. Wii wiiu and 3ds

Also just looken

Helldivers 2 as said above has a physical and palworld is in beta or something right. Why would they release a beta physically. Plus ms's base doesn't buy physical

DarkZane431d ago

@shinoff2183 You can still redownload everything you bought on the 3 shops they shut down. You just can't buy new things, but if there is something you haven't bought by then, chances are, you will never buy them anyway.

Armyofdarkness430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

Yeah get the disc that contacts the server to download updates instead. Because that will always stay up and 1.0 is the best way to play the game!

ravens52430d ago

Helldivers 2 is a live service anyway. Those games aren't really needed in physical form since it's tied to the servers but I like my physical copies.

rlow1430d ago (Edited 430d ago )

So how do you propose to turn it around? Majority of games are bought digitally today. Especially on PC and Mobile devices. People want convenience and majority could care less about preserving games. The next generation of gamers care less about consoles and don’t care where it comes from. That’s part of the reason that theirs a shake up in the videogame world. Even if the hardcore buys physical, it’s a drop in the bucket compared to the casual players or those that don’t care. I mean how many games play straight from the disc today ?

I feel you, but the market will ultimately dictate how this plays out. So far, it’s not looking good.

If they were to they would've done it by now. Should read the documents that you agree to the answer.

just_looken431d ago

Be it nintendio/xbox/sony have removed digital games already be it pt/silent hill/wii ds eshops or the psp.

There is also classics like that scot pilgrim game though i think its back now.

shinoff2183431d ago

Scott pilgrim had a physical release on ps4 and yea it is back

ocelot07430d ago

@just_looksen

Yer......because the publisher of the finals grow discs on trees for free. So they can afford to print their FREE to play game on discs and ship them to store and charge absolutely nothing for them makes 100% sense.

I got my disc for Helldivers 2 last week thanks and Palworld is in beta. Once it comes out of beta and on more platforms I'm sure they will have physical.
