So suck more money off a bunch of fools and in return they get even more peanuts. And still laying off people while still sucking up more money from fools. Yup sounds like game of the year right there if it is ever a game.

Did uncle Chris take a shit in your coffee this morning?

Why you're supporting them. Are you a sheep too?

not big enough for them to shove it up their fat rectum....

I think it’s unfair to keep giving this piece of software (can’t call it a game, can I now) any more airtime in case it dupes anyone else into its scheme

We should not support scammers on n4g
This has been over 10 years and none of the initial investors have seen a game produced so at this point, im classifying it as scam material

I think they recently had to hire an outside studio just to make a working demo playable “theatres of war” was a firesprite project for star citizen that’s the only reason (probably) it was playable at all

This could explain some of the troubles at firesprite recently but I’m not an expert.

I did find out, firesprite is much bigger than we thought, they’ve got at least three projects on the go
!!

More info appreciated!!! if anyone has any

Abriael54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

I have some info for you. You don't have the slightest idea of what you're talking about.

Firesprite did some limited development on Arena Commander, which is a separate instanced dogfighting mode of Star Citizen, and was already fully playable for years when Firesprite started to work on it. It launched in 2014 and Firesprite worked on it between 2021 and 2022.

Theaters of War was a separate Battlefield-like bonus mode that mixed vehicles and infantry. It was developed for a while and then ultimately scrapped to focus on the main game. It was never made widely playable.

These are only two of three instanced modes that are basically side dishes. The main Star Citizen game itself has been playable for a long, long time, much before Firesprite even entered the scene, and Firesprite did not work on it.

Even in its unfinished state, it has more content and features than a lot of "finished" AAA games out there and keeps making regular progress.

"none of the initial investors have seen a game produced" is simply false. When you don't know what you're talking about, you likely shouldn't talk for other people who are spending tens of hours a week in the game that apparently they "haven't seen" 😂

I wonder where you got your "information," because it's ludicrously out of touch with reality.

When people keep funding a game at a level in which Star Citizen is funded, and you obviously don't know about the project, perhaps it's safer to assume that those hundreds of thousands of people know what they're doing (since they're the ones playing) instead of assuming that they're all crazy.

Hell, this isn't really even that obscure. Playing the game doesn't require sacrificing your firstborn kid. All it takes is trying it without spending a dime when there's one of the *many* free fly events that give access to absolutely anyone for over a week at a time.

But I guess calling it a "scam" without knowing what the word actually means on some comment is easier. 😂

mkis00754d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Is the assumption that it is not in a releasable state accurate? 10 years is a long time and 600+ million is a lot of money to not have a releasable product. That's at least 3 AAA games dev time and (even more)budget at a minimum. There's a lot to read on the subject and it is definitely not as rosy as you paint it from a few minutes of browsing.

Abriael54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

It depends on what you expect. It's in a state in which thousands of people can basically treat it as their main game/hobby and enjoy the heck out of it for tens of hours a week with ther friends.

Sounds reasonable to me.

That development time and budget went into creating foundational technology that literally no other game has. A lot of the stuff people blame Starfield for missing, Star Citizen does have, already functional, and that's because they built the tech for it from Scratch, whereas Bethesda did not have that tech to make the same result possible, and did not care to invest into it.

But again, you can try it for yourself and make up your own mind. Free events happen once every two months in average and give you access to the whole current build of the game for 10 days to 2 weeks.

If it was such a terrible scam, they'd keep it under wraps instead of letting everyone who wants to try it for free regularly.

notachance54d ago

100% this game is gonna stop development if the funding is stopped, the shitty management doesn’t have enough buffer funds to carry the project to completion despite already having more budget than GTA V.

As always abriael thinks people calling it a scam because they shit on the game. No. The concept itself is a space sim comes true for every gamers. It’s just that other people don’t wear this rose-tinted glasses and see that the shitty management is not capable of bringing the dream to reality. This is a snake oil salesman selling a dream that will never see a finish line.

Abriael54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

@notachance: been hearing this "when funding ends" fable for a decade now.
Guess what, funding has been growing every single year for the past 6 years.

The "those who actually play the game are all wrong about it and I know better" argument will only bring you so far.

notachance54d ago

who says I never played the game?
maybe because I’m not too deep in the rabbit hole, but based on 3 “free play” that I’ve tried, it’s a huge gap even from what was initially promised.

If you insist on believing this chris dude hey, more power to you. But with the way this dude keeping the perpetual feature creep it’s obvious he’s peddling a dream to the faithful. But hey, keep at it, he’s gonna need another supercar named after “superfans”.

Abriael54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Sure mate. Of course you did.

Incidentally, this "Chis dude" has made some of the most beloved space sims of all time likely before you were even born. There's a reason why people give him money.

Goes to show how much you know. 😂

notachance54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

so you didn’t even bother to argue on the “huge gap” part and “perpetual feature creep”, “he bought supercar for every superfans” part

just went sure dude with a complete denial attitude? 🤣
never ever criticizing the way he handled the funds or the project, at all??

because there are a lot of scam comments on the internet to your beloved game, there goes any semblance of criticism and you go “must defend at all cost” mode?

oops better close my eyes to the layoffs, as long as I can defend muh favorite games from internet troll and chris can buy his next car, all is good right?

purple10153d ago

“Firesprite did some limited development on Arena Commander, which is a separate instanced dogfighting mode of Star Citizen, and was already fully playable for years when Firesprite started to work on it.”

Yeh the difference between fully playable and a ‘fun’ game could be quite a lot though

This whole thing reminds me of the phrase “When your in a hole, stop diggin”

Markdn53d ago

@Abriael, you talk some nonsense bud, it's a scam, the game really doesn't look like it's had anything like 600 million spent on it,
You obviously have a deeper involvement with this money pit than anyone else, so your always quick to defend it, but how long can you defend this clunky mess. People want a development update not a new ship every month. A proper development update would maybe afford people a better understanding of wtf all the money is going on. You also say funding is increasing, yet staff layoffs, means someone is getting a bigger pay check at the expense of some staff. Releasing a V1 would be something but unfortunately this game really is not anywhere close to a finished product. And in my opinion it never will be, prove me wrong with all your posturing. Action speak louder than any words even yours.

How the hell has this company not been sued yet? Amazingly pathetic

Abriael54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Someone tried. And guess what? They lost.

rlow154d ago

Well I did go onto Reddit after reading your statement below. It sounds like people bill it as a unique experience and it beckons you on. But that it’s still buggy, setting issues, and it’s still in an alpha state. Which is all and well.

What I find disappointing is that after 10 plus years it still in alpha and that the developers don’t seem in a hurry to finish it. As long as the money’s flowing, there seems to be no pressure on them to wrap things up. Or at least put the promised single player game out. They deserve criticism for just selling ships and not producing a finished products.

MrBaskerville53d ago

@rlow1
It's mostly in an alpha stage because the game has excessive feature creep. On the positive side, while game might not be that fun to play, the tech is very impressive and who knows, maybe it can be used elsewhere at some point.

Atleast Squadron 42 looks pretty amazing, so if they actually release it in 2025, which seems plausible, it might actually be for the better.

Looking forward to playing this in 2028!
