Helldivers 2 Suffering From Login Capacity Issues Again as Peak Player Count Passes 333,000 on Steam

Earth Defense Force-Like Helldivers 2 has passed a record 333,000 peak concurrent players on Steam, but it's suffering from login capacity issues again.

Jin_Sakai495d ago

Like Palworld this game was significantly more popular than expected. Hopefully they get things worked out soon!

Horrible launch.

10 days in and I had very few play sessions.

I guess they haven't learned from the past 15 years of live service game launches.

Jin_Sakai494d ago (Edited 494d ago )

Over 333,000 concurrent players so I’d say they’re doing ok. But yes they still need to work things out for sure.

I don't understand the disagrees, I think they themselves for both literally said that they didnt expect so many players. They increase the size now and they'll continue to do so when the cap keep being maxed out. That's how server based games are and thats how crowded stores are. Also wasnt most you fools disagreeing the same ones that hate live service games TBGW like whining for once you y'all lives.

"Also wasnt most you fools disagreeing the same ones that hate live service games"

I'm in the twilight zone. Is GaaS, always online, microtransactions, and battle pass criteria for reviewing a game or not. Or is it only if we're supposed to hate the game?

Like back when the Order 1886 launched, suddenly length was a problem.

This game has gotten so many passes, 9/10 ratings but over half the people who bought it can't play it because their servers currently only can handle 400,000 concurrent players. There were massive problems at launch.

Where is the consistency?

Is that who is disagreeing? I don't know. I got 3 disagrees for commenting the Omega symbol on a NMS article about Sean Murray posting the Omega symbol on Twitter.

Eonjay494d ago

Yes it was rough yesterday afternoon when this tweet went. Just played a few missions with no problem though. Keep in mind the team is pretty small compared to a Sony First Party studio. And there is no way they could have know that their game would blow up like this. The initial cap was a couple hundred thousand for PC and PS5. Pretty sure Sony will be working to get them the support they need!

Grilla494d ago

The cap for the weekend was 450k. Crazy that they maxed that out.

its doing Crazy Numbers on Steam and PlayStation as well am sure Sony/PlayStation is interested in acquiring Them.

Eonjay494d ago

Yeah I think your right. The value of the IP just jumped considerably. I'm sure Sony will want to bring them on board officially.

StormSnooper493d ago

Sony published it, so they already have rights to the ip, but they may want to bring the talent for other ips in the future.

Sony is going gangbusters good job

A gangbusters good job?.... Are you on the drugs?.. This is the second weekend in a row where the game is practically unplayable

XiNatsuDragnel494d ago

I see man honestly if we're going that route then yeah industry needs a reset. But the devs are listening and fixing these issues so that's why I'm excited. Communication is key to success.

Grilla494d ago

Don’t exaggerate, I was running a 3 man sat. Took a few min to get in and ran fine. Brother got booted once. Not bad for 3 hours of playtime.

Juancho51494d ago

Servers have been at capacity all night, havent really been able to play. I can be a crybaby and say they suck, but instead I’m looking at the facts at hand and realize the game is much more popular than they ever prepared for, and all that tells me is i made a good investment. The bumps in the road at the beginning will be worth the trouble at the end, I got to play about an hour before servers were loaded, i should’ve never stopped to eat dinner lmao.

StormSnooper493d ago

It’s working perfect for me. Enjoying the hell out of it.

thornintheside493d ago (Edited 493d ago )

There is no exaggeration, Saturday from 1800 CET to at least 2300 I twice managed to get by the black screen of waiting, of course this just led to the "server at capacity screen".
In total I managed to get to my ships bridge once.

Sunday was a similar story during the day, but things started to normalize during the evening.

Last Sunday when i bought the game was bad but nothing compared to Saturday night. The game has worked fine Monday thru to Tuesday. Btw Saturday was so bad that they had to put a max 1 message per 15 minutes on their discord cause it was a literal text-downpour of ppl complaining, from ppl having the same problem as me.

Yeah I got booted out last night and couldn't get back on. I was raging. but it's the first time I've had any real issue in the game

DarXyde494d ago

This game looks like it's going to die not because the game is bad, but they really didn't prepare good infrastructure, it seems.

Jin_Sakai494d ago (Edited 494d ago )

You can’t just have countless servers at launch with no idea how popular your game is going to be. You have to scale and that’s exactly what they’re doing as fast as possible. It sucks but that’s the reality of the situation.

DarXyde494d ago

Jin_Sakai,

It's a live service game. Game has received some decent marketing. It's very well received, but I think we can admit this was a glaring oversight, don't you?

metalhead494d ago

Are you gonna disappear when we get starfield next? How weinie hut jr of you to behave this way.

DarXyde494d ago

Um...what? Can you explain yourself here?

yeahokwhatever494d ago

lol this game isnt dying anytime soon.

DarXyde494d ago

I would hope not. It was made by a small, passionate dev team and they deserve to do well.

I don't want it to die, but first impressions do matter, even in the Live Service realm. It's a great game, but the servers are a pretty important aspect of the experience. It just comes across as ill prepared.

StormSnooper493d ago

It’s a massive hit, how could it “die” ?

Can you explain what you mean?

DarXyde493d ago

I mean that it's a live service title and if the infrastructure to make it an enjoyable experience isn't there, you're going to see numbers drop off. The game is quite successful and that's great to see. 2024 is off to a fantastic start for PlayStation.

But these are the sorts of issues that need to be ironed out quickly for a live service title to thrive.

That's all.

yeahokwhatever492d ago

i really dont see numbers dropping off any sooner than they normally would.
