Helldivers 2 Took Almost 8 Years To Develop, Reveals Arrowhead CEO

Arrowhead Game Studios' CEO Johan Pilestedt has revealed that Helldivers 2 took 7 years and 11 months to make.

Almost 8 years and only two factions and low variety of enemies?! Really, that’s my only gripe besides no jump button and only a few biomes. I’m enjoying the game and looking forward to the possibilities of all they can expand on. Well worth the money.

They started developing the game with 35 people. Now they have around 100 people (still a small studio). Also their first AAA game. Probably not supported by other studios. Considering all this, it makes sense that it took 8 years to develop. Arrowhead isn't Sony's first party studio.

That does make more sense now, after watching reviews and gameplay, I find it hard to believe it took 8 years, but a smaller team and less experience in the AAA space explains it.

How often do you jump around in your daily life?
During my 40 years alive, I rarely see people going around jumping.

Helldivers 2 doesn't need a jump button. The dive button is great, and the climbing works fine.

When I was doing military, yes.
We did lots of diving but never went around jumping.

That's in real life in a video game I like the option to jump but ure right the dive is fine in this game

I don't care how long something takes to make...I care if I like the end product. I also don't judge based on team sizes. A game is either fun to me or it isn't. Team size and length of development is irrelevant.

After being forced under the map with no way to escape, Helldivers 2 was an option added to force respawn so they can get back to action.
