Matt Sainsbury: "Tekken 8 is, without a doubt, a highly polished gemstone of a fighting game, and it offers players the opportunity to demonstrate some truly elite skills through the aggressive, offensive-first focus on the combat system. But outside of the overly serious, hardcore fighting game community, it’s difficult to see this capturing the imagination of many."
"When looking at Game of the Year, there are multiple factors to consider: critical reception, general consumer reception, and popularity. There are other variables that can be rolled into the methodology, but for the most part, this is the trio making up the formula. A popular game doesn't always mean a great game though. Millions buy Madden every year, but they all insist it is more torture than entertainment. High review scores aren't the sole determiner either. If a game gets ultra high review scores, but only 50,000 people play it, it's hardly relevant. Further, critics aren't the only consumers of games, so general consumer reception is also important. As for why only six games? It is simple: that is how many games were nominated for the category at The Game Awards last year."
upcoming Plucky Squire will be pretty good as well ... if you liked Astro Bot, might check that one as well
My favorite games of the year were Pacific Drive, Banishers, and Sons of the Forest.
Of the games I've played so far this year, my GOTY at the moment is Stellar Blade. I got more games to play though, so we'll see if that stays on top.
I hope Like a Dragon gets in the final 6. That series has been so consistent it deserves a nod. IW was the 2nd best one in the series.
Haris from eXputer: "The DLC characters for Tekken 8 do not bring anything new to the table and the game is currently plagued with microtransactions."
Tekken's fierce old man, Heihachi Mishima, is back with a vengeance in Tekken 8. However, his return seems to be a forced move, which breaks the story beats established in Tekken 7.
When did Tekken ever make any sense? That's why we love it. Come on now. Mokujin? Roger? Kuma? Panda? Gon? Alex? Jack? Demon characters? Death, life, death and life again? Azazel?
Heihachi coming back ain't no thang but a chicken wang. Was probably hanging out at the ghost bar with Bison having drinks. Seems they must have run up a tab and need to make some tournament money to pay it off. Because they're both coming back to their respective games.
It is anogher example that proves that company have no balls to actually end people or stories
It's Tekken. The story never made sense. What we can rely on is that every character that gets thrown off a cliff or into a volcano never actually dies.
