Besides telling us you agree with it. Whether or not you like the themes of the game or agree with it being remastered, this game is incredibly well made. It was immaculate on PS4 and this is a better version of the same game.

I'm not personally interested and I will be skipping this one because the PS5 patch of the original is good enough for me and I don't really care about the new game mode, but to act like a 4/10—a score I contend is reserved for glitchy, broken, boring messes with bad gameplay—is "accurate".

I'm tempted to say you're out of your gourd, but I am curious about your reasoning.

That score is BS. The game is basically for people that own a PS5 & never played TLOU2. The remaster has extra stuff & it's only $50 for newcomers. If one wants to save $20, Walmart has the game for $20 & buy the $10 upgrade which would come out to $30 plus tax. Saying the game is a 4 out of 10 is ridiculous.

TLOU Part 1 PS5 version was $70 with the dlc included. TLOU2 Remaster is $50 with extra stuff which imo is a better deal & if you have the PS4 disc it's only $10...an even better deal. Again this remaster version is for PS5 owners that never played the game, for folks that played TLOU2 already shouldn't be worried about this remaster.

They wanted daddy Joel to be the main character and have a nice field trip adventure with him... So yeah people bash this game because naughty had the guts to make the unthinkable, kill your main protagonist in early game. And tbh, it's the greatest decision a gaming company has made. Even better is to force the player to play as the "antagonist" and get you deep in her skin to understand her anger and blood thirst while also making the other protagonist have a development arch that goes from vengance to maturity.

Though I didn't like the outcome of the protagonist I said to myself "oh well" & continue to play the game to the end to see the outcome of the story which I enjoyed. I really hope season 2 of HBO's TLOU really gets the story & the violent grit of TLOU2 because I thought the story was really good just as the story was good in part 1.

The first game was beyond amazing. The second game is an upgrade in every single way, except for the story.
Imagine taking a game, making the graphics even far more amazing, the sound, artwork, music, all of it, beautiful, and then take the worst choices you could ever make in telling a story, and put them in there. The story is dogshit, and that's despite it being written by incredibly competent, talented writers.

I can definitely see the improvements but since it's a remaster it won't be night and day compared to the ps4 version which already looked incredible. There is also a 60 fps mode which is imo the most important addition.

Far as visuals...the PS5 remaster can be played in native 4k in fidelity mode. The PS4 version was only 1440p on the PS4 Pro & the PS5. There are also some shadows & particle enhancements in the remaster.

While I don't like the fact that it was remastered, I can't take points off as it is still a very well-made game.

This may not be for persons who played the original on PS4 or PS5 after the 60 FPS patch unless they are interested in the new game modes.
I recommend that newcomers who did not play the original pick up this version.

Why even review it? It’s been out for years. I don’t care about the review for an old movie getting the 4K treatment. It is the same movie basically. If you added significant parts, i.e Lord of the Rings extended edition, then it might warrant a new review.

DF has the best breakdown in the differences between TLOUP2 PS4+PS5 enhancements vs TLOUP2 Remastered. The most noticeable difference is that the remastered version has turned of LOD so there is less "pop-in" for the grass and distant objects. There is some slightly higher resolution textures and better texture filtering that is only noticeable in a few key areas but largely looks exactly the same. There is also a 30fps Fidelity mode that outputs 4k. If you have a 120hz display, Fidelity runs at 40fps, and if you have a VRR display the framerate can be unlocked. DF also confirmed that some spots that previously had frame drops no longer drop frames and maintain a stable 60fps in performance mode.

All-in-all it isn't a whole lot, but for $10 if I ever get an itch to play through the game again, I'll get the upgrade to the PS5 version.

Looks like three years isn't enough for people to move on. Will never understand the hate this game got. Regardless of how you feel about where they took the story and characters, it is still a shining example of a cutting edge release. The fact this released on PS4 is crazy. It still holds up three years later. Personally, I enjoyed a vast majority of this and hard parts really made me feel and reflect on character development in games. Looking forward to more story telling from ND.

It's not even a remaster if it still runs at 1440p in performance mode. A remaster usually means a higher internal resolution. The only noticeable thing they increased was the draw distance. Everything else remained the same. The PS5 isn't powerful enough to remaster a game that already runs at 1440p, since most games already run below 4K.

They created a Universe and a brand with high standards. This game needed to be brought up to PS5 level for those who buy it due to being fans of the TV show or having high expectations having just bought a PS5. The game should represent accurately what is possible on the $500 box. All that said, it should have been DLC and you can only imagine the conversation about the optics asking for full price or $10 upgrade. Still, some will think the product shouldn’t exist at all. I’ll happily pay $10 to replay this masterpiece with slightly improved visuals and try the new mode. It’s frozen outside time to shiv from the shadows.
