The Lost Levels, No Return and a performance boost make this the perfect reason to replay a masterpiece.

No return seems like a nice little addition to "justify" (or at least attempt to justify) the $10 upgrade price. $50 outright for this just seems wild to me still.

Not even a 4 year old game, and the graphical upgrades are minimal at best

Cacabunga119d ago

What’s the next ND working on??

Umb119d ago

Maybe more DEI??

joking....

not.

REDGUM119d ago

Could you not just pickup a cheap 2nd hand copy of the game and pay the upgrade?
The game, physical copy, is only $10 on marketplace.

And to the $50 thought, most new games now are more than this. For those who are new to the game thos price is pretty damn good I would think.
And... none of this even mentions that it's one of the best single player games out there on the market (still) to date.

generic-user-name118d ago

Remaster of a 4 year old game for $10 if you own it and $50 if you never owned it vs buying the same Mario Kart 8 that released in 2017 for $60 with no discount if you owned it on Wii U.

But guess which one people are whining about?

goldwyncq119d ago

Reminder that Ragnarok gave away a roguelite mode with new story elements for free.

RupeeHoarder119d ago

Reminder this is cheaper than a Burger King meal.

rippermcrip119d ago

I still question why they made that free.

Regardless, so what? This has more. What is your argument that it should be free?

goldwyncq119d ago

More? The free Valhalla DLC was like ten hours of additional content with a new story and development for Kratos. To say that this remaster has “more” is laughable.

rippermcrip118d ago (Edited 118d ago )

Yes, more. Valhalla had more new story. That doesn't mean it had more.

This remaster has added:

No Return Mode.
Speedrun Mode.
Guitar Free Play Mode.
Lost Levels.
Outfits & Skins.
Director's Commentary.
Graphics and Performance Enhancements.
Full DualSense support.

ChasterMies118d ago

I actually think Sony is running an experiment here. Which makes more money, the $10 upgrades or new game sales?

generic-user-name118d ago

Reminder that Sony are not a charity and it's not a sustainable business model to give away free DLC for all their first party games no matter how entitled we feel.

goldwyncq118d ago

Then perhaps they should’ve made the content in the remaster more substantial than Ragnarok’s free update. Had they included actual new story content instead of putting in a bunch of incomplete levels and a roguelite mode fully detached from the main game, the price would’ve been worth it

generic-user-name118d ago

What's funny is Sony could have easily charged $20 for Valhalla and it would have been worth it and No Return would have been worth $10, but because they decided to be pro consumer and gift it to us for free, all of a sudden Remastered's value magically changes, not even mentioning 4k, improved shadows, guitar free play, new characters to play as and more.

How quick we are to forget that TLOU1 Remastered released 11 months after TLOU1 for $50 and no upgrade path for existing owners and all it added was a resolution and frame rate boost, no new content at all. $10 for TLOU2 Remastered is a steal. Hopefully Sony aren't put off gifting us DLC like Valhalla in the future by people like you.

The best PS5 exclusives 2024

With so many PS5 exclusives to choose from, it can be a little overwhelming to pick which one to play. This is especially true for a new PlayStation gamer who has yet to experience the wonder of PlayStation-exclusive storytelling. So, here's KnowTechie's take on the best PS5 exclusives in 2024 and beyond

PlayStation is killing it with the exclusives this year. Exclusive wise, what has xbox released this year?

VersusDMC30d ago

They won't complain about Microsoft not releasing games here but put all their effort into saying that only first party counts. Games like Rebirth and Grandblue Relink don't count. Games published by Sony like Helldivers 2, Stellar Blade and Rise of the Ronin don't count because Sony don't own the studios.

It's some narrative building so for when Hellblade 2 come out they can say, seemingly without shame, that Microsoft is actually releasing first party games this year. And claim victory.🙃

Chevalier30d ago

Weird 1st party games didn't matter when Xbox had so little, but, now they're important again? Guess Ark 3, Stalker 2 don't count any more?

KyRo30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

ARK 3 doesn't exist and it's just a timed exclusive. It's also a game that a majority of the ARK player base doesn't want as it's a massive deviation from what people like about the original game

Abnor_Mal30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Honestly to me it doesn’t matter what they say, they are just finally getting a chance to say all the things PS fan(boy)s were saying to them for the past few years. Let them get that, they deserve a “win” for a change.

The new narrative is that suddenly first party games matter again when awhile ago they didn’t, but that was because they were struggling with the same three games with the occasional fourth or fifth. That games should be everywhere on all platforms since that’s whats happening to theirs. The consoles don’t matter just the ability to play anywhere. Whatever Xbox is doing Sony will soon follow.

They’re not moving the goalpost anymore, but rather just moving the whole damn stadium.

jwillj2k430d ago

Only a incel would care about who published what and who owns who.

If it’s not on the other consoles it’s an exclusive.

Killing what? Where are the 1st party games??
Stellar Blade and FF7 is what I’m seeing this year.. so shallow!!!!

andy8530d ago

Doesn't really matter as long as they're great games. Baffles me why people put an emphasis on 1st party. They're still games you can't play anywhere else this year

Cacabunga30d ago

Andy

PS brand is my favorite because of their stellar first party software.. currently I see absolutely nothing to go crazy for..

CS729d ago

Nonsense.

PS1 and PS2 was built on great third party exclusives like FF, MGS, GTA & Tekken.

Of course I love the games I’ve played from PS but I don’t believe we need to limit it to ‘exclusive’ to acknowledge that Xbox will be releasing some good games this year also. In that same vein, I believe that Xbox diehards shouldn’t limit their acknowledgment of good PS games to 1st party. There are plenty of good games to go around for everybody.

Tacoboto30d ago

This is a Playstation article about Playstation games and your comment is about Xbox. Can't you just celebrate what PS has without dragging this into console war BS?

ChasterMies30d ago

I don’t think Microsoft is releasing games exclusively on Xbox anymore. They have some timed exclusives that release on Xbox first.

Abear2130d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Returnal, Astro Bot, and Ratchet made having it since day one worth it.

GT7 free updates and Spiderman 2 and others at 60fps have made this last year more than okay.

But yeah, it’s been dry lately. BG3 and third party have made great filler, but we ready for that SOCOM or Killzone announcement and some more 1st party goodness. Crossing fingers for Ghost of Tsushima 2 announcement this summer.

Didn’t know Helldivers was exclusive! Wtf is going on at Xbox that they can’t get these games, series s strikes again.

SonyStyled30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Sony owns the Helldivers IP. The first was a PS3/Vita/PC game. It was never an Xbox game that they could ‘get’ a decade ago. I’m not sure what the upset is with Xbox here

CS729d ago

Lol, how do you ignore Rebirth one of the best games ever made?

anast30d ago

Looks like they are on par with the previous gens. Solid games all around. Interestingly enough, we can't say they released a bad game yet this gen. Unlike the Quiet Man dustup.

I actually do not mind if Marathon releases on multiple platforms . I just wish that Marathon has a dedicated single player campaign.

DaniMacYo30d ago

Helldivers 2 is exactly what gaming needed. I’m loving it.

Walking Dead mods would be sick.

Tapani61d ago (Edited 61d ago )

Very keen to play this on PC.

A bit aside of the topic, but having such a strong year of PS games on PC this year, I'm very happy I moved from Playstation to PC permanently. I'd like to revisit these games later with even faster hardware and higher refresh rate, the Sony titles are just something else.

I did buy a PS5 to access the PS4 library. Another reason I bought a PS5 was actually the save files on all the games. I downloaded all my PS+ cloud saves years later as they were still there on the cloud, and actually bought Horizon Zero Dawn DLC and am going through it now. Still looks phenomenal on PS5 and am looking forward to Forbidden West on PC as well as Ghost of Tsushima.

Not buying the PS5 or the PC games because I somehow "support Sony", but just because the games are really good (1-2 level higher always than competitors multiplatform titles) and I had practical reasons for buying a PS5 (access to my massive library, thousands of hours of playtime on my save files, and upgraded resolution and performance of the games I owned.)

StormSnooper58d ago

but why leave Playstation then? It sounds like you like their games. Why not have both?

Tapani58d ago (Edited 58d ago )

I have PS3 Phat for PS1, PS2, and PS3 games and repair parts in case the drive or other components fail. PS5 for PS4 catalogue and PS5 games that do not come out for PC (seems like most of them do). I also have Vita that I use for classics from time to time on the go (once per year). So I'm hardly leaving Playstation, I just have the money today to drive the games at 120hz and RT on PC. Also, Sony and Devs do not seem to be interested in updating old games for the Pro consoles, I don't see the benefit of buying a Pro console just for a couple of supported titles.

StormSnooper58d ago

Ah I see. I somewhat agree with you in that I play on both PlayStation and PC. However, I don't see PC as a replacement for PlayStation at all. In fact, I generally prefer playing console games on consoles. I usually play strategy games on PC, or else games that are not available on my PS5. But I get you.

itsmebryan61d ago

How long di you think it will be before Sony releases all of its games on PC and PS5 at the same time?

Since they don't have any 1st party games coming out this year I think it may start with their first title next year.

DarXyde61d ago

We have two very different interpretations of what Sony said about first party games releasing this year.

“Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games,” Totoki said. “But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.”

I took from that they are not releasing new major titles to their existing franchises because... Well, that's exactly what he said.

That aside, isn't Concord coming out this year?

RaidenBlack61d ago

Since Spider-Man 2 PC version was leaked ... I guess, Sony will greenlit the official SM-2 PC version earlier than usual.
We got to know very little about Concord, from that vague trailer. I don't think it'll come this year.

RaidenBlack61d ago

The gap will decrease that's for sure.
Won't be long till we see 6months to 1 year difference between console and PC release for singleplayer 1st party.
I know of the current release gap but Sony has been rapidly changing their business operations, from no PC releases to day 1 simultaneous live service release.
So yea, current release cycle wont be a static one that's for sure.

FinalFantasyFanatic61d ago

I honestly think day one releases would be the worst thing for Sony, and I say that as a PC player, it'll make the Playstation irrelevant, that was part of the problem for Xbox.

EternalTitan61d ago

Finally I get to burn abby to death.

Yui_Suzumiya61d ago

I'll have to upgrade soon. Pretty sure it won't run on my laptop with an Intel Iris Xe GPU and only 128MB VRAM, lol
