Good on the judge. The deal is done and Microsoft doesn’t need to demand anything!

Abriael108d ago

Done doesn't mean it can't be undone.

Zeref107d ago

It can't, it's over lol

InUrFoxHole108d ago

Well you found out a lot about both companies. Love how people are still defending them. Both lie and are trash. People should worry more about being the consumer. Treat it like a sports team.

EvertonFC107d ago

Don't boy there products then

Crows90107d ago

Nah. Don't say both. Only one company came out calling themselves trash...Xbox.

rlow1108d ago

They have a right to defend themselves when being brought to court by the government.

MrDead108d ago

Never forget MS spent a combined $80 billion to remove multiplatform publishers from competing platforms and their gamers... even after all this MS are still petty bitc*es.

They are also being looked at by anti-trust agencies again because between MS and Google they're buying up and monopolising everything AI related too.

Abriael108d ago

I don't even need to use necromancy to summon you. 😂

MrDead108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

Why do you want to summon me? ...and what riches can I tempt you with? Nothing pervy though.

BeHunted108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

"Never forget MS spent a combined $80 billion to remove multiplatform publishers from competing platforms and their gamers"

Why do you make up false allegations?

UltimateOwnage108d ago

How is it false? The games from Acti/Blizz were all multi-platform. They would have lost nothing by leaving them independent - XBOX would already be getting the games. They bought them to lock down IP, release day-one titles on GamePass to push their DRM/GaaS mantra, and ultimately take away choice from other platforms to make their failing brand an option people have to consider if they want to play some of their favorite IP. Same happened with Bethesda. Starfield, anyone? Oh, wait, its only on XBOX now.

MrDead108d ago

"Why do you make up false allegations?"

Please tell me what is false about my statement.

InUrFoxHole108d ago

Please tell me what's false? Everything. Now move along and support the devs.

S2Killinit107d ago

How is that false exactly?

MrDead107d ago

@InUrFoxHole

"Now move along and support the devs."

...industry consolidation is one of the worst things that can happen to a workforce, supporting the devs means being against such large buyouts.

EvertonFC107d ago

You just got back from living on the Moon without any communication to earth or something 😂🤣

Lol....that's not true. If it were, no platform but xbox would have Activision games. Even if they wanted to do that it wouldn't be breaking any laws because they own the IPs. Sony has bought studious and IPs as well. You can't stop anyone from buying the games they want. You may have to buy another console to play a certain game. Microsoft nor Sony can't stop anyone from playing a game. If you choose not to buy a certain console that's on you. If you want to play Halo on a console you need a xbox. If you want to play God of War you need a playstation. Microsoft has always said the COD will remain on playstation. It was Sony that was doing everything in their power to stop the deal. Including exposing themselves for doing similar things which actually helped Microsoft with the acquisition.

How did you feel when Sony bought Gaikai? When they paid to keep Tomb Raider off of Sega's console? When they kept paying Major League Baseball to keep the license.Or Is it ok when they (Sony) uses money to get what they want as well? Microsoft are no angels but don't act like Sony haven't done and continue to do similar things.

You cant blame Microsoft because their wealth allows them to do these types of deals. Their is no doubt that Sony would do it too if they could. Stuff like this happens all the time in all industries. Tv networks, cell phone, auto makers, ect. It's a free market. Even for the ones you don't support. You can't throw stones when the same ones will also break your glass house.

MrDead108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

...$80 billion to remove two publishers from competing platforms = the same as Gaikai, and a game from 30 years ago. Go home you're drunk... also read up on industry consolidation on the scale of what MS is doing and the effect on the workforce, consumer and quality of products.

shinoff2183108d ago

Reaper most of what you say is loose af. Also Sony has a partnership with mlb but I don't believe they have exclusive rights. I may be wrong. The fact of the matter is ms bought major publishers whose game sold better on sonys consoles. While Sony bought up previously studios that mainly focused on Sony platforms. There's a huge difference. Your not comparing apples to apples dog

ApocalypseShadow108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

Totally wrong about the MLB license. And Gaikai could have been bought by Nintendo or Microsoft. What exclusive games on Gaikai did Sony take away? Don't be ridiculous. Sony paid for an exclusive for Tomb Raider. They didn't buy Eidos fool. Especially with Tomb Raider still being multiplatform. Which Xbox benefited from.

During a previous era, EA bought up licenses to control sports and removed competition in football. They went after the NBA and MLB. NBA said no and the MLB license was purchased by Take Two to prevent EA from controlling it. But left it open for other developers to make a baseball game. Take Two didn't keep it even to themselves. It just so happened that Sony had the better game that has lasted to this day. Just like Visual Concepts came out with a better game than NBA Live. That's called fair competition.

What you don't get is that Microsoft could have easily made a baseball game themselves for all these years. I mean, 2 TRILLION dollars is enough isn't it too make one right? But instead, they worked on the MLB behind the scenes to get Sony's game on Xbox. But not to help promote the game. Microsoft took that game and placed it on game pass to try and kill Sony's sales of that game by saying, "why by games that are $70 when you can play them on game pass?"

That's how shitty and shady Microsoft is. And for getting documents from Sony, they don't deserve shit. Screw Microsoft. They got enough information from Sony already.

Phoenix76107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

When they paid to keep Tomb Raider off of Sega's console?
Ohh and I guess MS didn't pay for the year of exclusiveness of the modern version of tomb raider then, right? Or MS didn't consider buying Square Enix up in what was know as the "ProjectPhoenix" then either. https://www.google.com/sear...

DarXyde107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

I'm no fan of studio acquisitions, but some of these are absolutely, qualitatively, incomparable.

Gaikai was a failure. It was too early to do anything like that, and I reckon the acquisition saved them. Were either of those big publishers in danger of going under? Or did Big Brother just want some big IPs because they can't make them?

Paying to keep Tomb Raider off another platform is absolutely grimy... And I stand by that whether it was Sony with SEGA, or Microsoft with Playstation (remember Rise of the Tomb Raider?).

The MLB point is a decent one. I would much prefer no one hold the license. That said, if they didn't, EA would likely snatch it up. Them, or 2K. I don't play those games so I don't know much about how they change from year to year, but I think EA and 2K speak for themselves in this regard. I don't think Sony should have the license, but The Show is multiplatform now which I think is a good thing.

More on the matter of acquisitions now. I don't like them. But sometimes, they just make perfect sense and it helps the studio do what they couldn't do otherwise. I see Insomniac's purchase to be similar to Playground Games' purchase. They just make sense and no issue with that. But once we start talking about large publishers? Or even Mojang? Becomes clear the meaning behind the acquisitions are very different: Sony is more interested in talent, Microsoft in owning big established IPs. Bungie is a weird case—I don't think Sony should own them. But that being said, so far, they've maintained that they will remain entirely independent and happen to be owned by Sony. They can publish wherever, whenever—in theory, that means they could make an Xbox exclusive if they wanted to. No ABK games so far have been pulled off Playstation which makes it a similar case to Bungie (again, *so far*). Time will tell on that one.

Funny thing is, I don't think acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft is bad. They've had a very synonymous relationship since the OG Xbox. It's the entire Zenimax purchase that I take issue with. But more than that (far more than that), the ABK purchase is a problem. Not even really because of the games. I don't care, I don't buy their games. The last two games I've played from them are Sekiro which I borrowed and Call of Duty...2. Back in 2005. The issue that will probably give me a stroke in a few years is that closing the deal protected Kottick from any accountability and Microsoft was okay with that if it means they get these big IPs. I would be cheerleading the acquisition if it meant the entire exec crew got sent to Ryker's.

But that's just how I see it.

Well the same can be said about Sony. If they weren’t buying they were using their position to lock down content.

S2Killinit107d ago

That is different wouldn’t you say?

Juancho51108d ago

Funny how you’re one of the few who actually has the correct information and people still act like you’re pulling things out of your ass.

That’s why i hate the internet, 80% of the people commenting are either 16 year olds or adults who dont know how to do their due diligence.

Crows90107d ago

Xbox will always be remembered as the company that had to buy itself into relevance. Where as PlayStation will be remembered for all the great IP they made from the ground up. They were even the publishers for the 1st popular souls game, demons souls.

Good, requesting more information from Sony was just a fishing expedition. They've already reached an agreement so Sony is no longer a 3rd party adversary in this matter. It's the FTC who stringing this out fight with them.

dveio108d ago

Whenever I think about it: what incredibly dull acquisitions MS had made with Zenimax and AB.

Except for the buyout sum, there was nothing impressive, visionary or special about it. Nothing unique.

They were, plain and simple, only designed to weaken Playstation and Nintendo. And to offer the taken IPs then back to them for money with a contract or maybe a Game Pass agreement.

I really want the Xbox brand to stay around, I really do, because competition is what matters.

But I admit I would let go of a little laugh if, in some years, the acquisitions turn out to have failed financially and didn't draw any gamer away from competition.

But I also admit that, with all those IPs under their hood now, Microsoft now owns a LOT of potential at least to turn things around.

Let's see. Time will tell.

Rockstar108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

Naw, the Xbox brand can die now. It's dead to me going forward. This is my last Xbox .

There is plenty of competition without it.

We've got Nintendo, Sony & Valve. That's where I'll be putting my money hardware wise.

InUrFoxHole108d ago

Great to hear 👍🏽 👏

BeHunted108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

We all know the Judge is biased.

Einhander1972108d ago

What, does their son work for Microsoft or something?

Amplitude108d ago (Edited 108d ago )

The crossplay Call of Duty League Championships controversy years ago, oh yeah, I remember it well. Because of the timezones I had to stay up til 5am to watch the finals for the $100k. There was this woman in first place on XBox, seemed like a nice gal. She was in the lead the entire match but got absolutely destroyed by a man whose story involved practicing CoD every day on his way to work, but playing the Vita exclusive Declassified. On the stream he was wearing nothing but a Crash Bandicoot mask and he had a giant tattoo on his chest. "Playstation", it read. The name of the woman playing on XB that got second place? ...Judge_Jacqueline_Corley.

Einhander1972107d ago

Amplitude

I have no idea what your point is...

Amplitude107d ago (Edited 107d ago )

Man I have no idea. I'll be real with you I was on 2 tabs of acid. I think it was a joke about how the judge lost against a PlayStation gamer. Props to me for making as much sense as I did anyway

"the capital group of PCF Group S.A."

If you're getting funding from a group that needs two different ways of Acronyming itself, things will not go the way you want them to.

If it was more online-only crap then good riddance.

jjb198117h ago

Outriders was crap. They slapped that game together and threw in a loot system to get players' attention. This game was absolutely jank and the always online nonsense made it stutter like crazy. People Can't Optimize.

thorstein16h ago

I liked Outriders but I could see where the artistic vision was compromised. The way the industry is now, it wouldn't surprise me that upper management would scrap something that didn't pull in money via gaas, mts, or other means.

Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition Reneges on Promised Content Behind $250 Price Tag

The new Escape from Tarkov Unheard Edition has the community in an outrage after promising exclusive access to the new PvE mode for $250 USD.

$250? Do they not know all the other games that already exist or will be made in the future that can do similar?

SimpleDad22h ago(Edited 22h ago)

This is for the hardcore people that have 2500 h in the game. They basically play that one game the whole year.
Oh and those same people are mad as hell at this... what a way to reward fans of your game and annihilate newcomers.

Read a comment earlier calling it a "special monetization operation." I had to chuckle at that.
