The game is a great fit for Switch so makes sense.

-Foxtrot520d ago

Yeah it was either that or Psychonaughts 2 in my head

Probably testing the waters to do some third party multiplatform stuff, you never know you could see a potential Banjo Threeie one day on Switch 2.

Lightning77520d ago

I say give Banjo and Conkerer to Nintendo to develop and have it release on Switch and Xbox.

-Foxtrot520d ago

I don’t know about Conker with Nintendos family friendly image but maybe PlayTonic Games

DarXyde519d ago

Why anyone would trust Microsoft to make a new Banjo or Conker is beyond me. They remade Conker's Bad Fur Day which was a safe thing to do (but the content didn't age well) and Nuts and Bolts was not a great game at all.

Perhaps my memory is short, but even when I think back to the OG Xbox, I don't feel like there's any evidence to suggest they have any ability to do these franchises justice in the modern era.

To be fair, I think it's just hard to do. I just don't have faith in Microsoft doing it well.

Crows90519d ago

@darxyde
Bad fur day doesn't count. They only "remade" because it was popular then. It was more of just a port.

DarXyde519d ago

Crows90,

You think Live and Reloaded was a port? I think it very clearly is a remake. A port wouldn't have gone out of the way to improve the controls, add online play with more players, overhaul the graphics entirely, and—on the minor side of things—changing the frying pan to a nailed bat.

It's not like RE2- RE4 which, while remakes, are also reimagined. Conker is extremely faithful to the original, but it was more of a ground up rebuilding of the game. A port would be N64 graphics, which it isn't.

Also, I don't really follow your mentioning that it was only remade because "it was popular then." What do you mean?

Lightning77519d ago

@Dark that's why I said Nintendo make a Conker game. MS first party including Rare doesn't want to do it, they don't want to return to their old IP so if anyone could actually do it, with passion, it's Nintendo.

DarXyde519d ago

Lightning77,

My comment was actually towards -Foxtrot.

And it's not really about Rare doing it. I mean even with the other studios they have. There is a precedent here with another Rare game: Perfect Dark, which is being developed by The Initiative. I'm saying that even if you hand it off to another Microsoft studio, I have no faith in the outcome.

I wouldn't think Nintendo would want to do it either. They don't really make those kinds of games anymore and they have a certain western appeal that Nintendo hasn't really dabbled with since Starfox Adventures.

Most notably, Nintendo has leaned in hard to the family friendliness. They might support development on a more mature game, but I don't see them developing it. The closest you'll get these days is Metroid or Bayonetta. Even Banjo-Tooie is much darker than the original game and even that tone feels incompatible with modern Nintendo. Both are Rare games and I think, more than anything, it showed what the people at the studio wanted to do more than what Nintendo was trying to do.

All of this to say, I don't think either Nintendo or Microsoft have it in them to do these games well. Banjo is the easier of the two to pull off, I should add. You're probably going to need some writers from Rockstar to make a new Conker live up to what the fans want, but that's just me.

There was a rumor that a critically acclaimed game was going to hit another platform. Hifi makes sense at this point. MS and Nintendo seemingly have a good working relationship with one another. 007 is on Xbox and Switch, Banjo is in Super Smash, Ori is on Switch.

anast519d ago

"a critically acclaimed game"

Nice

anast519d ago (Edited 519d ago )

@Inmate

People gave Starfield 10s...Hifi Rush at it's height of popularity only had 6k users on Steam. These are people that have been proven to have bought the game. BG3 is a critically acclaimed game.

[edit: I suppose those critics that gave Starfield a 10, also acclaimed Hi-fi rush.]

Asplundh518d ago

It's one of the highest rated games of 2023, if that's not critically acclaimed what is? You've downplayed every good-great exclusive from MS and Nintendo last year, I think you just hate seeing people praise non Sony exclusives.

anast517d ago

@Aspl

Not many people are playing this game. It might be fun and good to look at, but not a lot of people wanted this game.

They've had a working relationship for longer than a lot realize. Rare made another 4-5 games for GBA and DS after MS bought them. MS had no stake in the handheld market so might as well have a studio make high-interest games on that platform. A similar situation applies here - the Switch isn't really a competitor to MS, so might as well throw a high-interest game out there like HiFi with broader appeal to the Switch market.

I remember MS also made a Viva Pinata game for DS, which advertised their IP to a completely different market. Viva Pinata as an IP actually did really well back then, too with a sequel, tv show, etc.

fr0sty516d ago

Just tipping the hat to all the disagrees I've had over the years when saying MS was going to become a third party developer... One step closer.

Sgt_Slaughter519d ago

Well yeah, it's a fantastic game and it would actually sell well when not restricted to Xbox (console-wise)

porkChop519d ago

Hi-Fi Rush is definitely a great fit for Nintendo. With the rhythm/music based combat I could see them doing some cool stuff with HD Rumble.

...they didn't close, they changed owners. As far as i know HFR2 is still in the works.

Lightning77250d ago

Hifi 2 is still in development. The devs themselves said what they wanted to do with the sequel.

jznrpg71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

They closed then got new owners

-Foxtrot250d ago

The Evil Within Anniversary Edition?

Good God. We were robbed.

I would imagine they would have improved the graphics and animations to bring them more in line with the second game. Wishful thinking but it would have been really cool if they redid the voice lines from the first game aswell with the same actors from the second, I felt they had more personality in the sequel. The only person I thought gave it a bit more than the others was Jennifer Carpenter as Kidman but the sequels voice actress did a great job aswell.

Microsoft is going to do f*** all with the IP and we'll never see a second Ruvik and Seb showdown.

I hope Krafton goes back and gets it after Hi-Fi Rush 2 if it was only because they didn't want the initial purchase to get complicated.

Neonridr250d ago

I preferred the first game to the second to be honest.

-Foxtrot250d ago

I wasn't really making a point at what game was overall better, just the voices were so flat in the first one and it would be nice if the animations and the like would be improved upon.

FinalFantasyFanatic249d ago

I really got to get around to playing the first one, I really liked the second game.

Venoxn4g249d ago

It hurts so bad knowing that there might have been new content for Evil Within..love those games

CrimsonWing69249d ago

This is one of those things I’ll never forgive Xbox for.

127maXimus249d ago

What a stupid, short sided move by Microsoft. Comparatively it would have been cheap for them to hang onto their only Japanese studio, with actually good games that people want to play. I struggle to understand how Phil Spencer is still employed. At this point it is Kathleen Kennedy levels of failure.

BlackIceJoe249d ago

Well said about him being Microsoft's version of Kathleen Kennedy.

All he has been doing is to destroy Xbox and it is unbelievable he falls upwards.

Well I really hope they make some $$ AND make a HFR2 in the process.

Sciurus_vulgaris263d ago (Edited 263d ago )

I’m wonder if Microsoft fully sold the Hi-Fi Rush IP. They kept the publishing rights of the original game. I don’t even understand why the IP was sold. MS could have had another of its menagerie of studios do another Hi-Fi game, despite such a thing being unlikely.

mandf262d ago

It was given for free on gamepass. It didn’t sell well. Look at starfield it only sold 2.5 million because of gamepass

Sciurus_vulgaris262d ago

Starfield did $235 million in revenue on Steam alone from Sept-December 2023. So I’m sure it sold considerably more than 2.5 million copies.

ZwVw262d ago

Yes, it did sell well. GP version has a fraction of the reviews that the Deluxe Edition (more expensive purchase version of original) has. If anything, it shows that more people actually bought the Deluxe version than played the GP version, on Xbox at least.

LucasRuinedChildhood263d ago

Hi-Fi Rush on the Switch 2 at launch would probably sell a good amount.
