First Marvel's Wolverine Gameplay and Details Leaks Online Following Unpaid Ransomware

The first Marvel's Wolverine gameplay has leaked online, following the ransomware attack made on Insomniac Games this past week.

Deathdeliverer130d ago

This won’t spoil anything. Maybe if you dig deeper. Ive gotten a peek at where they are headed and I must say, once I saw blood and a limb come off, I am definitely even more sold. That’s all I wanted. None of that using claws and knocking sweat out of people. Wolverine is racking up a body count. Love it. Hate it happened this way, but still. It could be old as hell. FAR from finished so it really is a dumb leak.

shinoff2183130d ago

Still was interesting to see. Sony could've been shown us something small like this.

blackblades130d ago

Why would they show something thats not finished and far from it.

DarXyde129d ago

It is clearly a very early build. If they put something like this out themselves, the internet would flay them. It's all about presentation and frankly, while the mechanics look interesting and the game seems to be shaping up well, I wouldn't put this out either. Why does this even need to be said?

Leakers really are the scourge of the internet. Insomniac has been great and prolific as all hell (with attention to quality) and some assholes who wanted ~$2M just decided, "yeah, I'm gonna target them."

Anyway, I'm glad they didn't get paid for this. If any good can come from this, it's free feedback on the direction the game is taking. Kick rocks, f*****g vultures.

Angyobangyo129d ago

Any if Sony did show what the hackers leaked in this video people would have been disappointed, especially if it's any kind of first gameplay reveal.

Cacabunga129d ago

I like the concept.. now I’m hyped for this

FinalFantasyFanatic128d ago

I don't think there's enough to show without copping bad press, there's a lot of missing textures and low poly models in that clip.

Workshyskiver130d ago

Id be careful digging deeper. Entire story treatment, cast and a load of other info was leaked to.

darthv72129d ago

It looks like Insomniac was taking inspiration from other Sony games. Namely God of War (2018). i don't think I've ever seen them do a close 3rd person game before. They usually do the 3rd person where you see the whole character like in R&C and Spider-man. This one definitely has that God of War vibe to it.

SyntheticForm129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

I miss the pre-Sony Insomniac when they were creative and surprising. Now they're just a biennial Marvel factory, it seems.

Making tweaks to the traversal and play areas, adding new abilities. "Sequels." Marvel of Duty.

Insomniac's soul needs saving.

MrNinosan129d ago

Because Ratchet & Clank screams Marvel, right?

DarXyde128d ago

Insomniac could always hire and expand the scope of their operations, especially after their commercial and critical successes.

I'm always a fan of exploring new ideas, though we have to also consider that maybe not even Insomniac wants to do that right now. They've made great games historically, but games like Fuse and Sunset Overdrive, unfortunately, never caught on. It's a shame because I liked that Insomniac was pretty experimental.

They do have two studios. Always possible there's some other game in the pipeline besides Wolverine (of course there is). Is it something completely new? Who really knows? Probably not. I'm not an FPS guy, but I do think it would be in their best interest to bring Resistance into the modern era. A lot of people loved those games and I can't say Sony has much to offer this generation for first party FPS titles yet.

Overall, there might be a trend where they are, as you say, a "biennial Marvel factory", but I think two franchises isn't really indicative of where exactly we're going. We will see, but they did release Rift Apart not at all long ago.

SyntheticForm128d ago

@Ninosan

What a dishonest argument. Highlighting the exception.

SyntheticForm128d ago (Edited 128d ago )

@DarX

The factory *seems* to be where they're heading. I say what I say out of love for Insomniac, really. I don't like seeing studios (especially of their caliber) funneled down a path.

I don't want artistry to give way to greed.

Rynxie129d ago

I hope it was worth it for the hackers. Because you know Sony is going after them, and you can't do much behind bars, besides see your life waste away.

TheEroica128d ago

It would be lovely if Sony and insomniac never talked about a game that was 6 years away.... Game looked pretty meh too...

Workshyskiver130d ago

I don't think I've seen a gane leak this bad since that build of Half Life 2 leaked. The reddit thread with all the info there is nuts. The amount of copies they need to sell to make a profit due to disneys cut is insane.

blackblades130d ago

Then you clearly havent been around lately

Workshyskiver130d ago (Edited 130d ago )

This is way bigger a game leak than GTA6' leak. Theres a playable build leak out there. Employees personal details right down to their passports, a complete roadmap of every game they are planning between now and 2035. Its revealed their split with disney, how worried Sony is post ACTI merger and even that Rachet and Clank lost money. Its massive.

RaidenBlack129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

The leak's huge with the whole roadmap, license, exclusivity, cast and everything. Even Guerilla's upcoming title name got leaked.
Sony : " Between now and December 31, 2035, Marvel cannot release or announce any X-MEN Games on console/PC/streaming, or use an X-MEN character as a competitive advantage in a game (e.g., "Play as Wolverine in Ultimate Alliance exclusively on Xbox").
X-MEN characters can appear in multi-family Marvel games (e.g.. Avengers, Guardians of the Galaxy), and Marvel retains rights to children's games and certain X-MEN games from the 1990s, but they cannot release or announce these within 45 days before or after release or announce of any of our X-MEN games. "

RaidenBlack129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

The leak even contains/confirms the PC version of Wolverine (playable pre-alpha)
..
edit : as well as all future Insomniac projects:
Marvel's Venom: Lethal Protector in Fall 2025 (Miles Morales in scope. An all-new storyline that continues Spider-Man 2 and leads into Spider-Man 3. Playable, switchable Venom and Spider-Heroes)
Marvel's Wolverine in Fall 2026
Marvel's Spider-Man 3 in Fall 2028
New Ratchet & Clank in Fall 2029 (concept art leaked)
Marvel's X-Men in Fall 2030
New IP in 2031/2032

Guerilla's Horizon multiplayer GaaS project leak : Hunters Gathering

Sonic1881129d ago

I'm interested in Marvel's Xmen. Just saying lol. We haven’t had an X-men game in years

-Foxtrot129d ago

I love Ratchet and Clank but it’s a shame we won’t get anything brand new and original outside of the Marvel stuff until after 2030

RaidenBlack129d ago

@Sonic1881
not only that,
Spider-Man 3 was supposed to be a single title, but that plan has been scrapped and the new plan is to release it in 2 parts in Holiday 2027 & 2028.
Also, a multiplayer GaaS Spider-Man title (titled leaked: The Great Web) will release on the same day as the SM-3 part-1.
[perhaps something like Warzone or GTA Online, a multiplayer companion release along with the regular release]

Eonjay129d ago

The fact that they are releasing 5 games by 2030 is truly wild. This doesn't even count the new IP.
Shame about the leak but... single player is alive and well at PlayStation. Like I said.
It was so annoying to listen to all of the people claiming Sony wasn't making any single player games when this is just one studio (albeit probably the most productive studio of all time but still).
I await the news story claiming that Sony is making to many single player games.

darthv72129d ago

The part that gets me is all the Marvel stuff in the pipeline. Insomniac is so much better doing their own stuff. Not simply putting their spin on someone else's IP but their OWN stuff. Like R&C, Resistance and even Sunset Overdrive.

That roadmap showed 1 game that is their own, 1 new IP that could go either way and the rest Marvel. And I thought the movie saturation situation was bad.

I_am_Batman129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

In case anyone needed any more confirmation that Insomniac is effectively being turned into Marvel Game studios... Even though I knew this was happening, seeing the roadmap visualized like that is kinda depressing.

It boggles the mind that Sony doesn't see the danger in making one of their most talented studios work on the same types of games for at least a decade and a half (More likely two decades). By the time they reach the part of the roadmap where they intend for them to work on new IP again, they'll have to agressively hire for new talent, because a lot of the creativity will probably have been burned out of the studio.

Too much of a good thing, can be a bad thing. A lesson that seemingly can only be learned from 1st hand experience in the entertainment industry.

One of my most anticiapted game
Some of the scenes in the video with the Banana Splits song (lol) seems near completion ~ Man, urging me to revisit the brutal X-Men Origins Wolverine game from Raven Software
edit : damn, the video even contains Jira board (which we also use at office) work efforts from 2022!

gold_drake129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

i just read through their deal with Disney .. and damn.
30-50% in revenue is aaalot.

but i dont know the industry standards for that sort of thing.

also read through somys concern of MS getting Activision. and its nothing new, we know those things already.

and quite honestly, sony is doing really well regardless of it.

xbox definitely lost some trust due to them not having games and how the acquisition made them look really bad.

purple101129d ago

yeh I read the cod bit, says their worried, in 2027, >? do they know something we dont,.?

wel obv yes.. but you know what I mean

Rude-ro129d ago

It means the deal that Microsoft touted about promising ten years is not going to be ten years… it is going to be 4 years.

StoneTitan129d ago

That xbox part is actually fake haha

RhinoGamer88129d ago

Yes, DIS is getting WAY too much. I know about these deals. You pay a MG up front (500k to 5m) to use the license. Then the royalty after recoup of dev costs is 5-15% depending on IP and if Marvel has a supporting film.

CrashMania129d ago (Edited 129d ago )

This leak is unprecedented and overall just bad, I feel for insomniac.

Workshyskiver129d ago

As interesting as it is to read through it all, I have to agree. Not good for the industry to be spoiled in this way.

That's Madripoor. That version of Wolverine goes by Patch. That bar is iconic in the comic books long before the games and the movies.

mkis0073d ago

Its the angle, not the location, as far as i can tell.

Cacabunga2d ago

Yes very slow news day i can see!!

mkis0072d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Thor

Ok then its the whole shot afterall...the bar looks closer to the game than the comic in the deadpool shot.

-Foxtrot2d ago

Wolverine in a bar…drinking

Well colour me shocked

solideagle2d ago

I don't think so, if he was wearing same shirt and hat then I could imagine but it feels like grasping the straws

CrimsonWing692d ago

I mean… I feel that’s a stretch. I think it’s just an iconic shot for Wolverine as I’m sure there’s similar scenes in the comics.

repsahj2d ago

Is there a shot similar to comics? All I know is wolverine drinking on bar in madripoor but not that same exact angle.

thorstein2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

It's called the Princess Bar.

https://twitter.com/blogsup...

CrimsonWing692d ago

Don’t they always walk up on Wolverine in a bar? I remember them doing it in the first X-Men movie and even in First Class. I feel like you can only show that in so many ways.

boing12d ago

Nope. You're projecting. This is iconic shot for Wolverine sitting in a bar, in comics, and movies. Why do you think Insomniac used it?

repsahj2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Can you show me an exact same angle shot from the comics?

Marvel's Wolverine Gameplay Footage Leaks, Features Lots of Stabbing

Marvel's Wolverine gameplay footage has leaked and it shows the superhero stabbing heads and mauling enemies.

MeatyUrologist67d ago

Actually looks pretty good. With a wolverine game you need to get the aggressive combat down and it looks like it strikes a good balance. Still looks a bit stiff with the animations, but the torn clothes and blood.looks decent. Here's hoping they can get something akin to Dead Island 2s gore system in place.

jznrpg67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

It looks pretty damn good to me for a game that’s not going to be out for almost 2 years and is most likely old footage. You have to consider what the state of the game is in when this was hacked. It has a lot of time in the oven still.

Notellin67d ago

It's amazing that Insomniac has this much working for the game at this point. They are masters at efficiency.

--Onilink--66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

@Notellin

I mean, its not like the GTA leak where it was literally development footage.

This leak is more of a trailer they were likely going to release at some point so its more likely to be a vertical slice of the game, so its not so much about looking good or not despite how long the game has left before release, because we already know early trailers are always very manufactured from cherry picked things that are somewhat ready at that specific point in time even if nothing else around them is actually ready haha, its just the nature of early game trailers

That said, it is true that Insomniac is probably the most efficient developer out there right now

MeatyUrologist67d ago

Saying it looks good: downvoted.

Saying it could use some work: downvoted

Saying things you would to see in game: down voted. Widespread case of the Mondays folks?

Kaozz197966d ago

Downvoted for this comment! ;)

thorstein66d ago (Edited 66d ago )

I had three downvotes and 0 upvotes for commenting the Omega symbol on a story about Sean Murray tweeting the Omega symbol.

I wouldn't get too caught up in the dvotes and upvotes here. You could literally post 2+2=4 and get downvotes.

purple10167d ago

1. shiiieeeeeeeet, people getting dismembered and stuff

2. hasn't this been released (leaked) before already?

jznrpg67d ago

You would figure Wolverine having razor claws wound include lots of slashing stabbing and slicing.

Rimeskeem66d ago

I mean, I assume there is more gameplay than just combat. Was nice to know the gameplay wasn't just 5 seconds of walking around.

KwietStorm_BLM67d ago

Every time websites post leaks like these, they're just enabling the losers who break into people's systems. They didn't get their demands, so they leak sensitive information, but if the Internet cared more about dignity than hits, the guilty wouldn't have any bargaining chips regardless.

shinoff218367d ago

The leaders didn't get anything they wanted. It's not enabling unless the leaders got what they wanted.

KwietStorm_BLM67d ago (Edited 67d ago )

Completely missed the point. And you spelled losers wrong, twice

PlayStation 5 Pro AI Upscaling Support Seemingly Confirmed by Recent Marvel's Wolverine Leak

A recently leaked slide seems to confirm how the PlayStation 5 Pro will support AI upscaling, as Marvel's Wolverine is going to support it

Pedantic91113d ago

What about A.I. framerate advancements ? I'll probably not touch 4k for atleast another decade or so.

113d ago Replies(6)
Eonjay113d ago

I think the whole purpose of AI upscaling is to achieve higher performance.

Pedantic91113d ago

I get that part, guess im just a bit selfish. I always prioritize framerates over resolution, despite mainly keeping my gaming to consoles, where framerates might be considered less important as long as they hit a consistent 30fps.

Eonjay113d ago

Well here in the latest console generation for the PlayStation, mostly all games are 60FPS or have a 60FPS mode. I can't think of any PS5 game that is 30 FPS only except for the Matrix Awakens Demo. I just got done playing Star Ocean Second Story R on PS5 (and PS Portal) and I picked it up on PS5 instead of Switch because its 60FPS on PS5 (and PS Portal). The biggest thing holding back 8th gen consoles from 60 FPS was the CPU. Now, Even the Xbox Series S can (with visual sacrifices) achieve 60FPS in a lot of games thanks to the Zen 2 CPU.

But, going back to what you said, for games running on the latest and greatest engines... they can utilize things like AI Upscaling to reduce frame time (like FSR) but while also creating higher fidelity images (like DLSS can).. Especially when you factor things like Ray Tracing into the equation.

Basically you can get the increased frametimes AND you can improve image quality at the same time. Its a win win. In fact, even if your game can run native, it will probably be considered a best practice to implement an AI upscaling solution.

isarai113d ago

To be perfectly honest, I miss not having ghosting, checkerboard artifacts, and soft picture quality. Been playing PS2 a lot lately and it l reminded how muddy most modern games look in motion,

Demetrius113d ago

I was watching gameplay of getaway 1 and getaway black monday I admire how ps2 games looked at the time even now it has a charm feel to em, I been playing my ps2 as well recently just got sly 2

isarai112d ago

I've been playing Urban Reign and Samurai Western. So good 😗👌

Profchaos113d ago

From reading the leaks not just this article it doesn't confirm a PS5 pro at all but more a custom in house upscale technique that could be included on the ps6 just as much as a iterative console.

In face the leaks show suprisingly little about a incremental upgrade

jznrpg113d ago

Lots of rumors for a Pro so it seems real but it’s all rumors at this point. Either way I’ll buy their next console.

Profchaos112d ago

I agree I'll be buying the 6 the pro might need to prove itself first if it does come later this year as I've already got a launch ps5 and I'm quite happy with most games performance wise at this point compared to last gen when I was playing a ton of fallout 4 watching the base PS4 struggle to keep 30

SonOfOsiris112d ago

No one cares, waiting for Switch 2
