Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom To Get No Direct Sequel, Confirms Devs

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will get no direct sequel.

-Foxtrot565d ago

Oh for the love of god…move on

Remember when each main line Zelda game was different

Inverno564d ago

Yes, but this solves an issue that all those games have. They could easily stick this universe and move forward and back to have an actual timeline. They could pull from all the other Zelda games and bring them together and have some consistent continuity. They also have the possibility of an even more sci-fi Zelda in this universe too.

-Foxtrot564d ago (Edited 564d ago )

The issue is all you are going to get is a reskinned map over and over with little improvements scattered around

Whether people want to admit it or not was copy and paste for the majority of TotK while they added things on top.

It just comes across as them doing it so it’s easier for them to make a new game as the foundation is already done rather than making a completely new map from scratch.

Chard564d ago

the many narrative inconsistencies between BotW and TotK indicate that Nintendo has little interest in timeframe continuity

VenomUK564d ago

Tears of the Kingdom was originally intended to be dlc, I believe, that was expanded into a full game. Historically Nintendo produces one new game per generation.

Profchaos564d ago

@venom I tend to disagree it's not typically one game per gen.
Zelda 1 and Zelda 2 NES
Ocarina and Majora n64
Wind waker and twilight princess GameCube
Twilight Princess again and skyward sword and I guess crossbow training but not really. On Wii
Botw and totk switch however botw was always intended as a Wii U game first and foremost like twilight princess it just didn't get completed in time

So I don't really agree it's one per gen it's more like whenever it's done

I don't think making a game from scratch will really fix the problems BoTW and ToTK have. They plan to keep on doing open world, and the problem with open world is that every dev that does an OW game follows the same formula. They had the chance to improve in the 6 years it took to release ToTK, but all they really did was do more of the same, and there's no denying that. I don't doubt they'll bring back the koroks and Shrines, and have yet another barren, and needlessly huge map. And with their attitude towards story I have doubts the next game will b any better.

MrNinosan564d ago

I remember when Zelda was actually amazing games, even thou it has been 25 years since.

FinalFantasyFanatic564d ago

Right now, I just want a remake of an older game like Link To The Past, or a brand new game in the vein of previous 3D Zelda games (OoT, MM, TP, WW, SS, ect...). I had my fun with BoTW/ToTK, I don't want to revisit it again any time soon.

Profchaos564d ago

We did get links awakening I guess. I'd like to see link to the past in that style to

Profchaos564d ago

Agree I liked that all the games were different than what came before some elements may remain but overall each adventure felt fresh totk feels similar to Majora in many ways awesome games but not a totally new one

The Legend Of Zelda: Tears Of The Kingdom (Switch 2) -A Sublime Sequel, Now Sublimer| NintendoLife

"When all's said and done, Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Nintendo Switch 2 Edition is a fantastic revamp of perhaps Nintendo's most sublime sequel. What was once a technical marvel on aged hardware now has a chance to truly shine, with visual and performance boosts undoubtedly making it the definitive way to play.

Nothing will ever match the feeling of playing it for the first time, of course, and some bonus content would have been welcome, but armed with Zelda Notes and the promise of buttery smooth upgrades, I'd challenge anyone to dip back in without losing hours to its unrivalled wonder." - Jim Norman | NintendoLife

I argue that simple res/FPS bumps should be free, and then you can charge $10 if it includes actual extra content. That seems to be what has been settled on.

Many PS4 games got free upgrades for PS5 when just increasing res/FPS. Days Gone, for example, got a free FPS bump to start the generation. Now it's getting a "remaster", improved visuals/extra modes/content for $10.

I know they have *some* free upgrades - though we don't know what they entail - but the Zelda games just seem like they know they can get money from eager new buyers, so why not. Zelda Notes doesn't quite seem to justify $10, but hey, let us choose. Make it a $10 app, and give the res/FPS upgrades for free.

Weird the Jamboree pack being 20 with no new boards or minigames for party mode, way to miss the mark. Minigame variety is seriously lacking for the party mode compared to superstars, my biggest issue with the game, think I'll pass on that.

I wonder if there will be supply issues (unable to find the system). Interesting that they are launching in the middle of the year as well.

gold_drake59d ago

some of these are abit pricey.
like why?

neutralgamer199259d ago

It's Nintendo they know they can get away with it. Bits that simple

Dhika59d ago

Why the differences in prices?
