The EA Sports Home space is actually pretty awesome

PS3Fanboy write: We're fairly certain that there's a good number of you who responded to the news of an EA Sports Home space with nothing more than a "meh." Some of us did too, to be honest. Some of us are not particularly big fans of sports games, so we assumed this Home space is for other people. Until, that is, we saw the new walkthrough video that has appeared on the PlayStation Blog, which shows off the entire space, including the three mini-games.

Home users will be able to race go-karts against each other, with four people racing at once. There's also a golfing minigame and poker tables. While these are nothing too exciting on their own, EA are introducing a "light progression system" with their area. That means that you'll be able to spend your winnings on upgrading your go-karts, and progressing to higher level poker tables. There will also be wearable prizes and stuff for your Home apartment, as usual.

So even if you're not a sports fan, you should find something to do within the EA Sports Home space when it launches around March.

I agree, more of this type of thing please and Home will begin to fulfil its potential.

Ea sports is doing a better job with home than sony is. If other publishers can step up like EA home should be really something

kapedkrusader3569d ago (Edited 3569d ago )

...Sony spent their time making HOME easily accesible to publishers like EA. So, it's unfair to say what that.

cliffbo3569d ago (Edited 3569d ago )

so Sony make HOME so that companies can do this and you take a swipe at Sony for making it happen? it's Sony's success that EA decided to contribute. what are we going to argue now? 'if it wasn't for other companies, HOME would suck'? how stupid

marinelife93569d ago

And it's all free. I think other publishers should take note of the potential in Home.

Very true, I thought it'd be typical EA, out to promote their games as usual, but after reading on, it seems EA have actually a good idea in mind for their space.

This actually sounds like it could be quite excellent. One of the main reasons that I use Home is for the mini-games themselves. The leaderboard thing that everyone can see sounds pretty cool, even if it is just a way to seem smug. You could stand under the board with your name on it...and get abuse hurled at you. In my opinion, EA has just set the bar for what a space in Home can/should be.

I wanna play some Poker, someone make a Casino space pronto!

Agreed. I watched the CES "demo" of the EA space and it looks very nice. They are even going to have "High roller" tables that you have to earn your way to the right to play. The more you win, the high stakes tables become available. If other publishers/partners make spaces that have this much to do in them and add this much to Home...they might be on to something.

I think it was sony's intention to have third party's make the best out of home in order for their them to get the word out on upcoming games, news, etc. More of this is definitely needed. Now what sony has to do is have a more intergrated experience with actual games and friends.

PHOSADRA3568d ago

I have seen a few interviews where Sony representatives have stated that they want other devs to add content. The red bull,Uncharted, Ea, and Farcry spaces are the first step...

Raoh3569d ago

i agree. at first i thought it just looked promising until i saw the walkthrough on the playstation blog that showed the races, two floors over looking the race track, the poker tables were genius. you start with the casual players and have to build up your chips to play with the high rollers.

one place EA is going to beat sony in HOME (even though its all revenue for sony) is that EA will be showing more traielrs in their space than sony will in their space.

What's annoying about Home is that every time they change something in an area, you need to download that again. Can't they do something like a live update?

jmiscavish3568d ago

i agree

When redbull went live, I didn't even redownload anything. I suppose when this comes out, I won't reredownload anything again...
