Sony deleting Discovery content doesn’t look good for its digital-only consoles

Users who had once paid for Discovery content will now have that access taken from them, and what’s to say game publishers won’t pull their content from the PlayStation Store one day.

Sony - they signed those terms enabling something like this and are doing nothing to make it up to affected customers.

We haven't heard yet of Discovery doing this to other storefronts. Whether it's related to costs or whatever, the losers are the customers that purchased from Sony.

Sony this happened on other platforms like xbox you can not buy them anymore but like steam games you can still download them. Sony just took them from your library straight up robbery if it was physical.

This is ridiculous, only Discovery could have made the decision to pull this content. Discovery was in charge of the decision to allow users who purchased this content to continue to be able to access it.

and Sony decided to allow users to PURCHASE the content while they didn't have the rights to it, it's not on discovery. Maybe they had a contract that said it ended in 2023. The least Sony could do is refund the customers, but sony can't be arsed to do so.

i have movies i bought on my pc and xbox and i can still access them all and even download them to my pc/hardrive and access on all my networked devices and stream.. its about buyers confidence in digital.

its similar to xbox back compat in my eyes where i can play xbox original games on my series x etc and yet i still cant play my purchased ps3 games on my ps5 except for rubbish streaming via ps plus premium which i must pay for again..

@einhander Do you think discovery just thought one day: let's just remove all content from Sony cause fuck em or that there maybe was a license for the content and that Sony didn't renew? discovery can't just pull content, it's all contractual and sony decided to let users purchase the content with the risk of it being removed and not telling them. It's pretty disturbing how far people are up sony's ass. Kinda scary when their die hard fans just gulp it up and swallow everything.

If discovery was in the wrong here, there will be a lawsuit and I'm pretty sure that's not gonna happen. No protection of their customers at all, I expect better from Sony.

That moron places all the blame on Sony for this. The problem is that this isn't Sony's content, it's Discovery's content. Sony owes the users nothing, and that might sound harsh, but it's not Sony's fault. That said, I do wonder if this effects Microsoft (who also had a video store on Xbox 360)? Nintendo deleted video content forever and everyone was like, "That's cool, please •••• me more and way harder, Nintendo!" Sure, we're talking about little shorts on 3DS most of which were free, but the same fate awaited you if you paid for the content, too!

But what I'm seeing is that this digital only future snafu stuff is only really upsetting people when it affects PS. Is that because most users are PS gamers, or do they simply think the grass is greener elsewhere?

All digital content is the same. Granted if Sony or PS did this witj their own content, I'd be in 100% agreement with Louis Rossman going as far to say that "Sony just justified piracy." But this isn't what happened. If anything Louis Rossman missed the fact that it was actually Discovery Channel that just justified piracy of their content.

Going to start on a non sequitur like this, bad idea. As I already stated if Sony removed access to paid content that they own, it wouldn't sound like I'm protecting Sony at all. What Discovery Channel did was anti-consumer. What did Sony do that was anti-consumer in the recent past say last 10 years? Everyone points to PS Vita, but obviously that wasn't a long standing precedent within PS which is a part of Sony but not directly controlled by Sony Corp. Additionally Sony BMG and Sony Pictures are also are part of Sony Corp. but not directly controlled by Sony Corp. These are all different enterprises under the Sony moniker. Sony used to be an incredible innovator in the consumer electronics space, they still are but I don't have any love for Sony Pictures or Sony BMG and am more aware of their issues with creators. You won't find me defending them and I am not biased in their favor. Even with a positive lean on Sony Corp I wouldn't defend them for anti-consumer practices.

I doon't see him ripping into those other companies too harshly and Nintendo doesn't want users to repair their HW, but doesn't block them like Apple does... meanwhile Microsoft Xbox does block such repairs and HW replacemens. Louis has a 6 min video about it and that's all.

it also doesnt look good for its slim console considering you have to register the disc drive. once sonys servers are gone it sounds like that disc drive will be useless
