Am I the only one who thinks GTA 6's graphics look disappointing?

The first look at GTA 6 is finally here and I can't lie, I'm a little disappointed by how it's looking right now.

I'm sure there are a few out there. Game looks phenomenal though. Especially if it's running an open world bigger than GTA V. Also depends on exactly how much is going on in that open world. As well as, what is happening at all times in the player's immediate vicinity. There are a lot of factors that contribute to how much you can push graphics within an open world.

Geometry, texture detail, physics, draw distance, texture load-in, NPC behaviors and NPC density, vehicles and vehicle density, weather effects, etc. It's not just about how good a character model looks or how pretty a building is.

The big thing is throughout the trailer there was 0 disclaimer that said the stuff we saw was on a certain platform and or in engine/game. So just like killzone 3 to ea to your watch dogs or any ubisoft game all this trailer was is a hey the game is real here is a year it may come out. There has be a large pile of games with fake trailers this is not the 2000-2013 rockstar that made gta 5 everyone needs to remember new team new ceo this time around.

For me the only thing i was impressed about is the map size and its location i saw no ray tracing of any kind no actual game play is this a 30fps game with massive amounts of fsr? does it have a good AA or any form of ray tracing? heck are the mirrors working this time or did we get back the gta 4 physics engine?

The shadows also looked ok but not 5+ years of dev time massive budget looking even the buildings alot were from gta 5 same with the cars.

In the end of the trailer as someone that played all there titles and recent 2k games i was like MEH aswell as a i wonder how the monetization will be.,

You're right, there has been a change in team but you also need to remember that Rockstar has developed more than just GTA and has released games beyond 200-2013. When they revealed RDR2, it looked phenomenal and when it released it looked just as good as the trailers withoutcompromise. I understand skepticism but Rockstar is one of the few devs I have ever seen to not downgrade after they reveal a game.

Also, ray tracing isn't everything. It's a cool eye candy technique but it's definitely not what puts games graphics so high on a pedestal due to the cost in performance. Some games definitely have optimized ray traced Reflections (insomniac for example) but you rarely actually notice that games gave ray tracing unless the dev told you it did, especially since so many games these days are not even having ray tracing as it's own option to enable/disable anymore.

You're basing a lot of criticism on a trailer that isn't even 2 minutes long. Just give it a bit because Rockstar tends to release technology trailers to show off their flashey new stuff (just like max payne 3 or Gta5).

Red dead 2 was great graphics wise along with the realism but that realism did cost us like the horse always taking our guns or setting our guns one way then poof its been reset.

I will say right now i did not finish the red dead 2 story because it was way to hand hold with the missions even bounties everything had to be played a key specific way even down to the load out/look yes the game graphics were amazing but to me the rest oof so hopefully gta 5 does not take it to that point.

Cool, some people liked the realistic stuff, some don't, not all games are for everyone.

Rockstar games biggest issue for game mechanics since it was created has been the hand holding. All of their games have excessive amounts.

I mean, if Rockstar doesn't evolve their formula then I don't have to imagine it happening. I really hope they do get away from it.

Honestly ray tracing is older than 6 years, it's something older than most people who use this website. It's just rendering in real time is too taxing. But I honestly don't care if games have it or not as having ultra realistic graphics doesn't add much of the game itself isn't fun. Graphics aren't everything. But on the topic of graphics, Rockstar is a company I don't need to worry about downgrading as they have shown time and time again that when they reveal their games, they are showing us what it will look like at release so I have no worries.

There was Ray Tracing evident, as Digital Foundry pointed out. Mirrors worked. Lighting was great, hair was incredibly rendered. Textures had increased detail. What more did you want on a trailer for a game over a year away?

I think the skin shaders are a bit flat, but other than that everything is a step up, especially the density of both the world and crowds and the fact that all the windows have interiors, plus it's got over a year to change or improve so 🤷‍♂️

There are a few ugly shots in the trailer, but most of what was shown looks pretty great. I think the worst looking parts by far are that aerial shot of the city at night and the street level nighttime shot that follows it - just not good.

Having said that, though, if the game's quality is even slightly less than what they showed in the trailer when it finally comes out, it'd be pretty outrageous given the abundant talent and resources that Rockstar obviously has. I didn't come away from the trailer with the impression that this game is at the absolute cutting edge or raising the bar all that much. It looks great, but I need to see more to be convinced that it's like, the next big leap for games. But what do I know?

car leaving scene street has no weight like the smoke from the car marks on the pavement even the car is all gta 5. The buildings behind this scene is also straight from gta 5

The scene with the lady out of the car the highway blurs out like gta used too when your driving to fast and the highway itslef is not very detailed the car meet scene is also like a gta enhanced mod with the walls/buildings.

Certain shots looked great while other shots looked liked they needed more polishing. I mean, of course the game isn't releasing until 2025 anyway so of course it doesn't look done. Not disappointing but unpolished is what I say. However this game will be graphical showcase when it's done overall.

It had a budget of over 1 billion hundreds of workers and 5 years + of dev time so yeah a pc version should have been day one and path tracing was done with a patch on cyberpunk so i would expect it in this game on pc.

Not 4k? for real its 2023 you have a supposed ps5 8k gaming beast or the 4k series x you should expect a graphic mode for 4k with 60fps performance mode.

With these comments it seems they should toss it out 720p native 30fps upscale fsr to 1440p everyone will jizz in there pants pathetic.

Rockstar are never doing a PC version day one. They know full well people will double dip. And 4K is a massive waste of resources, I don't know why people are obsessed with it. A lower resolution with more details or a higher frame rate is a far better looking game.

I think you were expecting a San Andreas to GTA 4 type of jump especially since there was no GTA last gen so this is a 2 generation gap. This just shows that we're starting to see diminishing returns. The jump from GTA 5 to 6 less than GTA 4 to 5 which is less than the jump from San Andreas to GTA 4 which is less than the jump from GTA 2 to GTA 3 which was the biggest difference.

Not saying the jump isn't big, but I wouldn't say it's 2 generations big. Like compare San Andreas to GTA 5 (the closest we can get to 2 gens) to GTA 5 to 6. I agree that 6 looks a lot more detailed and makes GTA5, which I thought aged pretty well given that it was a PS360 game, look significantly dated, but I can understand why someone might be disappointed and I'm attempting to explain why that maybe the case.

That's not true at all. GTA 5 maxed out PS360 graphically. 2 gens later its a huge step up from 5. As it should I would return both my consoles if GTA 5 outshined GTA6. So Far GTA 6 despite some low res scenes here and there will probably be one of the best looking games to date.

I think the headline of this article is subjective. I think it looks amazing compared to the original GTA V, which is a fair comparison. GTA V today, has evolved a ton over the years and I suspect, GTA VI will too and most likely, be enhanced on whatever gaming machines come out next.

But objectively, graphically, the game is doing things we’ve never seen before. It’s over a year away, and coming out on current gen systems. The insane level of detail in EVERYTHING is just mindboggling.
