No combat so what's the point? Go download DCS (it's free) and buy Heatblur's F-14 module if you want something legit. Pretty sure Heatblur shared aircraft docs with the devs of this MSFS module but better off just getting the real deal.

Exactly 💯. How the hell do you relive Topgun without combat?!

Abriael563d ago (Edited 563d ago )

What a silly take.

You do understand that the VAST majority of what fighter jets do in the real world is just flying around without engaging in any combat right?

For a lot of people, the ability to fly all over the world that you get in Microsoft Flight Simulator as opposed to limited maps that you can traverse in 30 minutes is more than a fair tradeoff for the ability to engage in combat.

This without even mentioning the absolute toxicity, continuous friendly fire, and annoyances in most of DCS' online environments, which not everyone is willing to deal with.

There's a reason why Heatblur is doing this, and it's because it's nice to have options and MSFS is infinitely more popular than DCS. The whole "what's the point of military planes in MSFS" take is as childish and misguided as it comes.

The point is flying them. That's what aircraft are for.

@shinoff2183: me, no, but DCS fanboys that get all pissy when other sims get aircraft they'd want surely do. Apparently, it's hard for them to accept that developers prefer working on a sim on which they can actually make some decent money.

@Kipten: yeah, all these professional fighter pilots who spend literally 100% of their careers not actually fighting in their fighter jets, how silly. 🫡

Imagine that! 😂

I get what you're saying. But you can't 'relive' Topgun' without the shooting missiles/guns and dog fights. Because that's Topgun in a nutshell.

Otherwise no you can't be Maverick now can you? Last I checked these were meant for war

agreed. the challenge in flight simulator is actually flying the planes. its not like ace combat... the physics and controls and systems are super realistic and its actually hard to fly a plane with all the assists off

"What a silly take"

Really? Here's another silly take. I add an Aston Martin into Forza and then I tag my article, 'Relive' Jame Bond with the Aston Martin. See how dumb a take that would be?! Sorry driving the same car around a track in Forza does not mean you're in for the James Bond experience.

Because for it to legitimately be the James Bond experience you need, espionage, gun fight, fist fights, daring escapes and a car chase with probably some car and agent gadgets.

Driving around in the car he drives does not give you the 'Jame Bond' experience. See how dumb it is now to say you're getting the 'Topgun' experience?

Because I'm pretty sure if we went on the 95% time James Bond is doing his sleuthing and all versus the 5% that is what the movies are is much more fun to watch. Unless you would rather watch Top Gun and have 90 hours of footage of practice runs then it would be boring as all hell.

Also comparing a movie and what real life pilots do is absolutely 💯 an idiotic take. What next? Oh this is the true experience of a soldier.... then for the rest of the game doing training and not the fun kill the enemy?

Abriael563d ago (Edited 563d ago )

Try again. Combat is a minimal part of the Top Gun experience. Have you ever watched the movie? Top Gun has always been about the F-14 Tomcat.

If you tell any aviation enthusiast that the most relevant part of Top Gun is a few minutes of pew pew against super-janky fake migs that were just repainted F-5s, they'll laugh at you.

The comparison with James Bond is entirely improper and more than a little funny.

The Aston Martin is an iconic but incidental part of James Bond movies. The F-14 Tomcat is as much the protagonist of Top Gun as Tom Cruise.

uhh... some of us like planes and aviation. this is still my most played game. its completely realistic. you even program the flight computers, autopilot, radios, everything... its not a combat game. the challenge is flying realistic planes with as little assists and input as possible. its actually hard. its a flight simulator. and that's fine for those of us who love aircraft... or are pilots. and there are missions and challenges in the game. the game has been around for 40 years. so clearly you just don't get it.

You mean like the ones we're already getting and have been getting since the simulator has released?

I know patch notes are hard to read... 😂
