Meta Quest 3S VR Headset Price Confirmed $299 in Leaked Ad; Same Price as the Quest 2 Four Years Ago

The next Meta Quest VR headset, the Meta Quest 3S, will be priced at $299.99, the same price as when the Meta Quest 2 released four years ago

bigfish2d ago

Hopefully we won’t see a price hike for psvr 3

Neonridr2d ago

Sony shouldn't even be thinking about another VR headset until they can properly support one.

DarXyde2d ago

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem likely that Sony can/will do that. They're very eager to abandon anything that doesn't do gangbusters. PSP was legendary, and Vita, while really good, didn't take off and it became a legacy platform.

The biggest problem though is they would really need to commit to it stubbornly the way Meta commits to Quest. I don't know if that's feasible anymore given the high risk to develop these things.

bigfish2d ago

Why is it that when Sony release a headset they are criticised for not supporting it (I assume you mean not making games for it), why isn’t the same being said about meta or Samsung etc, they rely on 3rd parties to create the games so it’s unfair to demand 1st party games from Sony and not anyone else. Sony make hardware they will continue to do so as long as there is money to make from it.

@Bigfish Meta does support their headset with regular updates, adding features, etc. There is also a major difference between those headsets and the PSVR2. Those headsets were built on an open PC platform, while PSVR2 was made for a walled-off console garden, which ultimately means Sony would be solely responsible for keeping it alive.

@"bigfish"

Meta banks a lot on their VR headset library. Yes, the majority of titles aren't first-party, but they are the ones financing those games and the ports they receive. Not to mention the heavy subsidies on their devices. That is why so many support them even if they hate Facebook.

As for Samsung or any other manufacturer, they produce PC VR hardware, which is a completely different segment. Many of these devices aren’t even targeted at gaming. The exceptions are PICO and Valve, both of which have faced criticism for not providing enough new game support for their hardware as well.

TOTSUKO2d ago

The problem with psvr2 is when they announce psvr2 games ps fans complain “where’s the flat games?” lol No one is talking about into the radius psvr2 being the best version rn or ghosts of tabor port coming later this year.

CosmicTurtle2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

People defending Sony here don’t understand that they had a customer when the hardware was announced who did not trust Sony to support by time it was released. Having a tech demo as the flagship game felt deeply disappointing. I loved PSVR but there was not enough software to justify the price for vr2.

Sony abandon it, so does everyone else.

And yes people also want “flat” games for their hardware. Also a problem this gen.

TOTSUKO2d ago

@Cosmic Turtle

If you were referencing me I was not defending Sony. I am simply stating reality of the platform. Even if Sony released every PSVR1 library to the psvr2 it still wouldnt move headsets.

In terms of value of the PSVR2 I honestly think is underrated. I came from pcvr and the psvr2 is miles ahead in terms of immersion tech. Obviously the software support cancels that out but it’s more of an indication of a declining/infant vr market.

Rude-ro2d ago (Edited 2d ago )

Nearly 200 games supported by psvr2 and counting…
Perhaps you actually pay attention to the product rather than waiting for over fluffed articles on n4g?

I mean, Xbox has not made 1 new AAA game in over a decade….
So, do you ask them to not consider a new console until they support the current one?

Jingsing1d 16h ago

Honest people who followed VR and not the hardcore fans knew the bottom had already fallen out of VR before PSVR2 even launched. I remember the last years of PSVR1, All the AAA studios were done with it and I never saw any reason to buy a $550 headset for wired higher resolution Quest ports. The two big games for PSVR2 I wasn't even interested in either, Stopped caring about Gran Turismo when it became a GaaS thing and I never really cared for Horizon Zero Dawn.

Neonridr1d 14h ago

@Rude-ro - I own a PSVR2 thank you, along with a Q3 and an Index (and a Rift and PSVR before those). I'm all in on the VR train.

Out of those 200 titles you mention, how many existed on the original PSVR or PCVR? How many new and original titles did we get?

I'm thinking of this as a great move for VR adoption for the masses at that price. I just want to see VR support grow, whether it's Quest, PSVR2, Vive etc. I much prefer running my games off of Steam, but the Q2 was a great entry into that access. Now PSVR2 players have that option too. Hoping that support will continue to grow!

*Btw, check out Subside that just hit Steam VR. It is an INCREDIBLE diving game for VR. Man, I love it.

So is this like a refresh or cut down version of quest 3

Vits2d ago

Cut down or more like a Quest 2.5 if the rumors are to be believed. It features the same SoC as the Quest 3 but has the lens and screen of the Quest 2, with a camera array in between.

ocelot072d ago

Cheers thanks for clearing that up for me.

1nsomniac1d 7h ago

The world’s gone mad. It’s a revised budget spec model priced the same price as the non budget (essentially top-spec) version of 4 years ago… and everyone lost their sht about how good a deal this is.

Is that where we’re now at as a society?
